Crab snaring at Bodega Bay has been great. Haven’t caught a crab. Thought I had a triple on. Caught a ring net. 7BB1F154-6322-48FD-BE58-32099D5261E1.jpeg C9276C77-D9ED-44B7-B533-A61F5559DD1B.jpeg

Caught the best trout I've gotten in SC today. Had a similar size one snap my line before I could land it. Both ran my line out 20-30 feet a couple times. Caught another 10 or so today as well. Some were feeding on the surface, but I tried every small fly I could and couldn't catch them. They kept popping up right next to my fly.

thats a killer brown for this river man. i'll be out there xmas morning, not sure whether to head to chattooga or chauga right now.

pretty close to it man. the peach tail is right on, the body can probably vary some. i've caught fish on that one everywhere around SC, NC, and TN.

Christmas morning? High of 36, low of 23, plus I think it will rain Thursday. Think that would be a pass for me.

Yeah, it's too bad. Been really heavy here, the rivers will be brown tomorrow.
These were the brookies being posted. I've been trying to find some big brooks all year, so I'm pretty jealous of them.

Minnows but always carry some other tackle just in case. Actually got a new "locally" made jig the other day that will be the first thing I switch to when I inevitably get hung on a snag.

Had a good day on the river today. Caught 8 or so. Was a cold morning, the ferrules were frozen across except for where the fly line was. Saw a 5-6" trout that was struggling get eaten by a big one. Too bad it was right where I was fishing.

Went kayak fishing in the bayou yesterday. 15-20 knot winds. Caught 6 speckled trout in the 13-15 inch range, 3 redfish that were probably 16 inches, probably 10 smaller speckled trout, and a big ass sheephead. Been watching videos on cleaning sheephead . I've done it before and fucked it up.

Made friends with a guide while at FSU who lives in carrabelle and guides out of delacroix nov-march. He was able to give us a few starting points. Insane how much Marsh there is. It's like the Everglades but instead of mangroves it's grass. Water laws in Louisiana are weird also. We were not kindly told to GTFO a few times

Both times we planned to go to Biloxi Marsh, but weather didn't cooperate

Nice being so close to NOLA for bad weather days

One of my friends has a camp down there with some other guys. They all bring RVs down there and they built a big metal building for sitting around eating, drinking, hanging out. Sleep in the RV. The camps are all along a long road and on the other side of the street are tons of boat slips along the bayou. We went winding through the bayou for a good while. Maybe 30 minutes. He wasn't even using GPS. I have no clue how he remembers all the turns and where to go. It all looked the same to me. When we got to where we were going, it was a pretty wide bayou and we fished along a bank and in mouths/cuts. We were fishing with matrix shad. It was basically a slot red every cast. And specks. I've never seen anything like it. You could've caught 1000 slot reds that weekend.

    Louisiana Trout/Redfish Power Ranking:
T1. Venice - including areas north to Port Sulpher area. Big and consistent trout outside of winter, and a sight fishing paradise for redfish. When the river isnt flooding it is the best fishery in the US.
T1. Hopedale/Biloxi Marsh - Not the biggest trout but easy to catch and a consistent year-round fishery. Redfish is as good s it gets.
    3. Big Lake (Calicasieu) - Could easily be #1 if the influx or freshwater gets sorted out. Monster trout and awesome wade fishing.
    4. Chandelier - Still plenty of fish and great wade fishing. Just not what it used to be but the experience is worth every penny.
    5. Grand Isle - Still better than most places in the country.
