been loving the 1st season of Dissect on To Pimp a Butterfly -- really makes me appreciate the art more. looking for some comedy podcast recommendations that are easy to get into and don't have too many inside jokes and insular references. comedy bang bang is way too inside baseball for me at this point.
Dillingham you listen to the trillbillies? they’re not necessarily a “comedy” podcast but i think you’d dig them based off your posts in political threads
no but i'll check it out. could never get into Chapo, they're way too self-important and always are the smartest people in the room. appreciate the rec.
that seems perfect. does anyone like Your Kickstarter Sucks? it can be hit or miss, but damn those guys are cynical and can make me laugh harder than any other podcast I've listened to. my current roster: Dissect - musical analysis of hip hop albums Lights Camera Barstool -barstool movie and random bullshitting Pardon My Take Athletic Football Show - fall asleep to this Mina Kimes Show - fall asleep to this The Fun Report - Trill Withers Patreon podcast after Mickstape died Cover 3 Podcast - CFB All Fantasy Everything -- only when I'm in the mood, sometimes is a little too off the rails for my tastes The Distraction - David Roth & Drew Magary bullshitting. Code Switch - NPR Race podcast Your Kickstarter Sucks - two guys who hate everything review shitty kickstarters I listen to too many podcasts. not a fan of the true-crime genre.
his voice is so nerdy in comparison with the albums he's reviewing...it's incredibly insightful but also makes me LOL sometimes. what are your other favorite seasons?
Glad you mentioned this I've listened to several in the last month He's not anything close to a historian, but Dan Carlin is and he puts me to sleep. So I think my donkey brain just needs to be told stories by a comedian. The Ed Kemper and Albert Fish timesuck episodes were interesting and memorable because of how fucked up those guys were
also randomly, does anyone know any podcasts their moms like? My mom walks like 20k+ steps a day in covid and recently just got her airpods -- figured I could try and get her into a podcast or two. There are tons I think my dad would like but he just can't get the hang of using Spotify or another app
I've been listening to Reply All a lot recently, and it's a good show but I can not STAND PJ Vogt's little fairy voice and his soy boy vocal fry delivery. Know how some people's vocal cords sound like they've been drug through gravel because of too many cigarettes? His vocal cords have been dipped in estrogen from too much Brooklyn chai tea. I pretty much hate everything about him.
Reply All is one of my favorite pods. The journalism they do is incredible. The hosts are pretty funny together
Peter Schrager on Simmons Podcast just told the story of how the deal went down and said verbatim that McVay "strong armed the front office" who did like Goff. He said to the front office," I dont want Goff, I want Stafford, put all the pressure on my shoulders." I love it!
Started “Wind of Change” today. https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/wind-of-change/id1509307460?i=1000472199173 It basically investigates if this song was actually written by the CIA like some people who work there suggest.
It makes sense if you think about it. Obviously, CIA internals wouldn't have actually written the song themselves, rather hired a top tier song writer to write it, and then they would provide it to the band. Shittiest part about that, if true, is the song writer may have really missed out on some loot since their name couldn't be on the record. Right now, I'm enjoying just the look into this shit, but noted, once I stop enjoying the ride and want to know a conclusion I'll stop. Thanks for the heads up.
No, it doesn't. Scorpions already had a dozen albums at that point and were plenty good at writing those big ballads already.
wellRed my dude. 3 liberal Southern comedians that go between an hour of comedy and an hour of politics.
That information would support the theory. The CIA wouldn't pick a no name band, they'd need to pick one that already had a huge following. A band from West Germany with dozens of albums, hits, and an enormous amounts of fans all over Europe and the globe, would be just the band to provide that song. I'm not saying the conspiracy is true. I agree it's far fetched. I'm just responding to this specific statement I'm quoting. One thing is undeniably true. People within the CIA talk about it being one of their ideas, and whether or not this is all dumbshit, hyperbolic hearsay is kind of what the pod seems to be investigating.
Tuesdays with Stories is also enjoyable for solely comedy. I dig The Dollop for comedy/history intersection. Will listen to Whiskey Ginger sometimes and Honeydew is great for comedy/mental health intersection. I also love Your Mom's House but that's the definition of an inside joke.
The CIA had tons of ridiculous projects, thats true, but it's such an overly complicated explanation for a rock band writing a song, something they had done thousands of times prior to this
Alan Sepinwall has a good new pod called Too Long Didn’t Watch. Each ep he and a different celeb watch the first and last episode of a big show they’ve allegedly never seen. Episode one is Allison Brie and Game of Thrones. Very TMB relevant start.
Listening to Unfinished: Short Creek, it’s a deep dive into the fundamentalist LDS church that basically ran/ runs a small town on the Utah arizona border, very good.
At least it’s not Alex. But fuck it really sucks to learn media people and shows you really like are fuckwads. Both Bon Appetite and Reply All in my case
I'm having a hard time following from that article what it is that Sruthi and PJ actually did wrong? Is there a more complete story somewhere? EDIt, found that guy's twitter thread, reading now
I guess I'd like to know more about PJ and Sruthi's anti-union reasoning before I just assume they're pieces of shit. Sruthi calling Eric a POS over the internet through a third party is some of the most childest shit I've ever heard though
