Looks like he is breaking out the Huepel greatest hits already at tennessee. Soon his daughter will make brownies for the team, they will have a slip and slide day, then the team will false start 4 times in a row game 1. Make football fun again!
Something about his record and offensive rankings. I told him I thought it was a dull and uninspiring hire and that Heupel's success was riding in the coattails of scott frost he didn't buy it. I think the past 10+ years of constant disappoint have scarred him.
Is UT hiring Al Washington as DC? Saw a few rumors that he was the target a few days ago but haven't seen anything since. That's a really interesting move to me for everyone involved whether he takes it or not.
Landed some big recruits for us during his tenure. Recruiting hasn’t been as strong the last 2-3 years. His coaching style doesn’t fit every kid. He’s old school and hard nosed. The kids that can handle him and buy in usually turn into good players.
Best thing they have done so far. He was a beast recruiter for them the last time they were good many years ago.
Very underwhelming hire. He may have been co-DC in title, but he didn’t call any plays. Hell, he was probably 3rd in command behind Pry and Smith. Our safeties were always the biggest issue during his tenure here. Who knows, maybe it’ll work out. But I feel like there was at least 10 better options for you guys
Banks coached up Jaquan Brisker into a 1st team PFF AA this season. Heupel was probably impressed by that.
Banks might not be a great hire for UT, but PSU has lost a lot of really good assistants and recruiters over the last 3-4 years. Banks was a pretty good recruiter in Detroit, and they seemed to be leaning on that more after all the other losses hurt them elsewhere. They also lost Bowen to the Jags.
Banks, who had spent the past five seasons at Penn State's safeties coach and co-defensive coordinator, received a three-year deal that's worth $1.3 million in the first contract year, before increasing to $1.4 million and $1.5 million in subsequent years.
Sucked with us. We had good talent(Richie Grant and Aaron Robinson projected high in the draft) but our entire D was a mess.
