So unfortunately the Seamaster 300m has to get the boot. I liked a lot of things about it, but the bezel really kept pissing me off. No etching made it look cheap and it was very difficult to grip. The helium escape valve started pissing me off too, it just looks out of place and threw off the symmetry. Absolutely gorgeous dial and hand set, but not enough to save it. This is the new everyday piece. Yacht Master for the warmer months. Spoiler
This is the 2nd watch I've bought from Timepiece Perfection based out of PA. Their price was about as low as you can get on Chrono for a 214270, unworn with box and papers.
So what are some pocket watches to look into. Have a friends wife who is asking me for suggestions for her to buy him one his birthday. (He’s a master electrician, hasn’t worn a watch in years and prefers a pocketwatch). I admittedly have no clue about these as I’m a wrist watch person myself. Any ideas would be appreciated. Price range of $1-2k is what shes willing to spend. If that gives any ideas.
Nice choice. Ironic that you went from the Tudor version of the Explorer to the Rolex version via the SM300.

I am going to get a rolex for my wife as her push present. I know a ton of about mens watches, but nothing about womens. I assume she wants something >36mm as she has long skinny arms/wrists, but I know she doesnt want the tiny one. Suggestions?
My wife is fairly small and actually looked great in the 35mm YM. I don’t imagine you’re going to have any trouble finding one in that size and exchanging it with the store after the fact if she wants a different size/style. The women’s SS sports watches are infinitely more available than the men’s.
Yeah I was thinking between 31-35mm Something like https://www.chrono24.com/rolex/role...ilver-dial-124200-unworn-2020--id17031361.htm or https://www.chrono24.com/rolex/date...r-index-dial-jubilee-bracelet--id17177286.htm
This is what we’ve been looking at, Tiger Tiger Woods Y'all https://www.chrono24.com/rolex/role...let--id14579760.htm?SETLANG=en_US&SETCURR=USD
Love it, Jorts Is that the second Nomos you’ve purchased this year or was the other set of pics of this one?
1st Nomos owned. Ended up passing on the deal about 6 months ago, as they didn’t have the Metro I just bought. I ultimately purchased the Milgauss instead, at that time.
Just swung by Tourneau to have the bracelet on the Explorer sized and they had to run the serial number on the warranty card and thank god we good.
This Rolex selling directly to grey market dealers thing will be interesting to follow: https://atelierdegriff.com/2021/02/...ring-and-selling-directly-to-grey-market/amp/ Not that we didn’t know, but tax evasion, racketeering, and wrongful termination will expose some things.
LVMH backed Hodinkee and now Hodinkee purchased Crown & Caliber. That’s interesting. Gives them an outlet for new and used sales. Will be interesting to see who follows suit.
So I finally got around to putting my name on the waiting list, for a Batman on 2/15, when I purchased some earrings for my wife’s bday. Got a call & text from them 20 minutes ago Spoiler
Everyone ITT gets it. When you get that call, you gotta buy it. I don't know the average markup that watch has through an AD, but I'm assuming you just made ~$3,000 given its resale value. And also, it's a really cool watch.
Wore my buddy's GMT and was very surprised by the dimensions. Always assumed they were larger than they actually are.
For those who use AD's...outside of the items where demand > supply, do they usually give a % discount? Does it change by brand?
Nothing too crazy. I really like the Oris Big Crown Pointer Date. Trying to decide if I want to bother with Chrono24 or elsewhere or should I stick with an AD. Making a transition at work and want a piece to celebrate/commemorate. There are a few Omega's that I like, but this move doesn't justify that or the El Primero.
I've broken it down before, but I'll do it again: ADs will typically not negotiate price via text/email - they can lose their AD status Reach out to local AD - see how much they'll budge (10-15% is about the norm) Go to Oris website & find ADs outside of your state (avoids State sales tax & most will ship for free) Go with the best offer and/or circle back to the local AD& give the local guy an opportunity to match With Oris, you'll probably manage anywhere from 10-25% (similar price-point to the Nomos I just got) - if you factor in sales tax savings ***Most importantly... be nice. Inquire about other watches/brands you are interested that they offer. make up a wife/girlfriend... need for engagement ring or a new set of earrings. Sell them on your need to buy from them again.
