I just ordered mouthguards the other night because I grind in my sleep, not to brag Dentist has been telling me for years to start wearing one at night
I have to get a root canal on the very back tooth in the upper left. Going to cost like $1600 before insurance kicks in. Pulling it will only be around $500 before insurance. I can’t floss worth a shit back that far so think I’m just gonna get it pulled and save money and flossing frustration.
I’m not scared of the dentist I’m scared at what they might tell me after they look at my teeth. Ive always brushed and flossed and they’ve always got some shit to say that costs more money.
also find a biomimetic dentist they won’t treatment plan you any crowns unless you have an old one needing to be replaced
I like my dentist a lot though. My old dentist sucked but this guy is great and runs a great shop. He's probably not far from retirement though so I'll have to change eventually anyhow I reckon. I'll look into this meme dentistry you speak of. Thank you.
I got a set of metal scalers and now I’m just a dremel buffer wheel away from complete dental self reliance.
my dentist is great and his office is literally in my building, still only go every year, except this year for extenuating circumstances that are very boring
yeah you can use them until the bristles start to wear out (up to maybe a week with daily use) there are lots of good interdental brush options for your back teeth
That's going to get kind of expensive at $7 for a six-pack then. That's $61 a year for a bit easier flossing And what is this interdental brush stuff you speak of?
cheaper than root canals and extractions to be fair you can get a big bag of them like this for cheap. GUM is another popular brand. maybe find a multi pack or small pack so you can figure out the size you need https://www.amazon.com/DenTek-Interdental-Cleaners-Brushes-Between/dp/B009MHV3VW/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=interdental+brush&qid=1613100930&sprefix=interdent&sr=8-3
What about these perpendicular flossers? I have the other kind and struggle to get them all the way back and floss effectively.
I have worn a mouthguard in my sleep for several years now. I go through phases where I ditch it though. You really need to change it out quite frequently because they get pretty gross. also i chew the fuck out of them in my sleep. It's weird at first but you get used to it to a point where it's weird sleeping without it.
Hi, my dentist is trying to sell me a $500 night guard. I’m thinking I’ll spend $30 at target to start out. Anyone use these that can offer perspective?
If you go with the cheap $30 option, just understand that you can make your problem worse rather than better. There's a reason it costs $500 at the dentist. They take a very accurate impression and a lab fabricates one that fits perfectly with your current bite. The one you get at target is not going to fit as well and could screw up your bite if it's too far off.
Mine was like 275, but it’s completely worth it if you grind your teeth. It will last for a few years if properly cared for. I used to get headaches in the morning from all the grinding, but those have gone away entirely thanks to the night guard (and klonapin)
They've probably come a long way, but the ones that you can buy at retail stores used to be pretty bulky. The ones that dentists make are very unobtrusive. Just gets to be a habit, and you don't even know it's there. $500 sounds like a lot for one.
I got a custom night guard from my dentist a few years ago for jaw issues and grinding. Can’t remember the cost exactly, but it was probably around $200-300. Can’t speak for the generic ones, but my dentist had to do some adjustments on mine because it caused more problems when I first started using it.
If you want something just to protect your teeth from getting worn down, then any shitty guard will work. If you want something kinder to your TMJ, then get your dentist to make one based on your bite. Those things will last you 10+ years.
Everyone thinks I have veneers. Never had tooth pain and when I stopped going in high school I hadn’t had any cavities. Just kind of stopped going and have never gone back. Why bother.
Almost every time I see someone with no history of cavities they have some level of gum disease. Your teeth are probably not as healthy as you think.
Grill not looking so great now, busted a tooth today. I blame this goddamn thread for the jinx. Tooth straight fucking rotted, now I got a half toof left in my mouth full of decay. I'll schedule an appointment, in the meantime I've got the rot and decay that proves I'm more metal than Butthead
What does that even mean? I’m all for being frugal but if it makes you floss more in the long run I bet it ends up costing less than some expensive ass dentist visits
