A friend of mine texted me a few weeks ago that I think Hinch said they were moving him from 3rd. I can't find it specifically, but it sounds like that may be the plan
Lol. Here come all the signings from cheap ass Ilitch that nobody else wants. What happened to trying Paredes at 2nd? we will probably sign Cron tomorrow.
Avila needs to go ASAP. He was fine for tanking and collecting picks. And if Illitch doesn’t want to spend its time to sell. Maybe Ishbia has an itch to spend right now.
I just had my bi monthly reminder that Anthony Fenech was scrubbed from the internet without any explanation. That story is so bizarre.
He's the current starting 3B unless/until we sign a 1B that moves Candelario there. I'd like to see him at 2B from a long term standpoint, but all that really matters this year is he gets enough ABs to prove his bat belongs in the line-up long term. Schoop was good last year and that's a good price for him. But I'm going to be annoyed if they run it back and sign Cron to play 1B again. It's going to be really interesting to see how Castro does at SS. He's been bad there the last few years and they're basing a lot of this faith in him on 140 plate appearances where he walked 5.0% of the time and had a .448 BABIP.
Also, I know ESPN's transaction tracker is missing some things, but I'm pretty sure the last offseason trade the Tigers made was Ian Kinsler in December of 2017. That would make three straight offseasons in a row where Avila did not make a single trade. Am I missing one during that time?
He’s still listed on free press website. Last published an article on August 26th (on some Priest that died). Where else could he be besides jail?
Keith Law ranked our farm system 12th, and 3rd in our division. said everybody sucks ass outside of the top tier guys.
I think his sentiment isn't wrong but I think the top end guys so high that 12 seems a little ridiculous
the stuff i've read actually has me encouraged about the depth in the system. long ways away but i think the int'l guys are bearing fruit according to some. and we still think Faedo and some of those guys on the back end of our top 10 are MLBers, right?
I can't imagine he's a fan of Avila, and he certainly didn't like the organizational philosophy during the Dombrowski years.
Law ranked the Tigers 19th last year. Said the same things about depth and being top heavy. Then we didn't play a minor league season and drafted his #s 2, 20, 53 and 66 players, and he says the same thing. I'm not surprised, because how would you like the depth of a system more 12 months later when those players didn't play last year? I still think the same thing I thought last year, though, which is I think he's downplaying the value of having 5 prospects rated that highly (all in his top 34). I also think it's odd he'd just pretend the drafted players weren't added, considering he liked Dingler, especially, more than anyone else.
Probably. I guess it's possible the Red Sox just love Franchy in a way they probably wouldn't like JaCoby or someone of that ilk, but seems like we could have figured something out that didn't involve anyone significant. I doubt Avila even called, which is the dumb part.
Pretty sure this is the fourth time this offseason we have DFA'd someone and they got claimed, which is weird considering how bad our roster is. At least two of the previous guys (Troy Stokes and Anthony Castro) were later released by the org that claimed them.
Didn't Demeritte come from the Braves? Is there any reason to not claim guys right now if you have 40 man room? You can always waive them in a week or two.
Yes, he was in ATL and we got him in the Shane Greene trade. Most teams don't have less than 40 on their roster right now, so in order to claim someone you usually have to drop someone else. Doesn't stop most teams from putting in claims from time to time. Avila doesn't ever do it, which is one of my biggest annoyances about him.
He's giving us credit for not having a bottom 5 payroll but fails to realize it's only that high because we can't dump Cabrera contract on anyone
I haven’t been totally invested in the Tigers offseason, but I’m getting a bit more excited with ST being near. Reading Stavenhagen today, he mentioned that it seems like we will use a six man rotation. I assume that means the expectation is for Mize and Skubal to break camp with the big club, yes? I get that last year being truncated also means that we need to protect everyone’s innings this season, but am I wrong for expecting those two to be in the rotation?
Rotation options going into camp... Turnbull Boyd Fulmer Urena Norris Alexander Mize Skubal Manning So that's 9 possibilities. Turnbull, Boyd, Fulmer and Urena seem like locks because Turnbull was our best guy the last 2 years, and the other 3 are getting paid enough that they'll start even if they have ERAs over 10 in spring training because that's what we do. Norris almost certainly sticks in the pen. Manning almost certainly goes to the minors because that's what everyone is saying. That means the last 2 spots are down to Mize, Skubal and Alexander. I think Mize and Skubal get those jobs if they're halfway decent in ST, and Alexander is there in case one of them sucks.
At this point, they might as well just let him play 1B. I think he'd probably hit better if he did because he hates DHing, and if he gets hurt who cares because he's not good, anyway?
