All the power "shortages" are from corporate greed. Most furnaces run on gas. Somehow all summer when the electric air conditioners are on it's not a problem. They just don't want to turn on the peaker units for a couple days because they will lose money. Apparently its better for people to suffer than govt step in and make them do the right thing.
had to go to the grocery store yesterday and they didn’t have anything. they closed early too fucking jack in the box down the street is still open 24 hours
So there is no running water at my house I think the right move is to turn off my water main and then try to drain all water in the pipes via the spigot for the hose that is directly above the water main can anyone confirm that
Was in this situation yesterday. A home builder friend told me to do just that unless you have pex. If you have pex, you should be fine but it wouldn't hurt to turn off water and open all faucets
Like they say; everything is bigger in Texas, especially governmental ineptitude brought on by unqualified politicians, amirite??
The correct way to pose this question on this board is not to ask for advice. No serious answers there. You should describe what you are planning to do as the definitively correct and only way to do it, then wait for fifteen responses detailing why what you did was wrong.
Gallant Knight really tho you want to open the lowest faucet you have to drain out of and also open the others to let air in or nothing will happen.
That is correct. Although without any water, not even sure you need to shut it off if there is no pressure behind it, just open up the faucets. Unless you plan on leaving. You would not want all the faucets opened when you were gone in case water is restored and you would run the risk of flooding something.
Born out of frustration and a bit of a narcissistic victim complex, but much more frustration. Most of my mom’s side of the family lives in the state and I spent 10 years living there, so I definitely have empathy. That said, one of the main reasons I left and have little desire to go back is due to the bad parts of that state’s culture —a general hubris which causes many Texans to shit on every other state out of ignorance and a delusion that they could somehow be their own functional country (something that’s failed before and would be a disaster if tried again). That delusion helps fuel the populace as a whole (not the Texans in this thread) to vote for worthless, ghoulish politicians. Since Texas is the greatest thing ever, they think, they can work more to “purify” it and promote the superiority propaganda of it. Therefore when shit like this happens, Texas looks and performs awful. When you don’t hold your leaders accountable for the things they do (or don’t do), the further their leaders neglect their responsibilities. That’s why Texas is always a completely embarrassing fuckshow when anything like this happens. And until its terrible leadership is held accountable, this will continue. That said, it’s trying to change on the electorate level. It’s just hard because that electorate was so neglectful for so long that the shitheads in power have been able to build failsafes to keep that power. When you aren’t expected to help the people who vote for you it’s easier to do that. tldr: I feel for Texans a bit and root for them to get past this while also thinking their tendency to smell their own farts has helped create this.
Just spent a couple of hours brushing 2 inches of snow out of my pool. Go inside and my wife said I was muttering to myself. Had no idea but this image is the only thing I've seen for 24 hours and I'm positive this was what I was saying. I've officially lost it
the amount of animals that we have gotten at the shelter that were left outside would already kill an already dead faith in humanity
Good on them for going in but I think they waited about 1.5 minutes longer than I would have to go in. Especially if they rolled up and he was already in the water. That is not to say they were wrong to wait, only how big of a softie I am for puppers.
I give this about three weeks and no one in Texas will give a damn about the electrical grid again, until it fails again.
False. ERCOT just announced that they are retroactively raising prices despite failing to provide enough supply. I am pretty sure that people are going to remember this. Considering customer’s are going to receive an increase for the spike during the storm and also figuring in that past consumption led to an increase in demand, people are going to get hosed and not soon forget.
Yes everyone will forget sitting in their 40 degree house with no running water in two weeks you’re a fucking moron
Don’t want to step on any toes, but in my opinion Texas elects bad politicians who make the lives of Texans worse. Something to consider.
I am afraid that the conservative news machine will find a minority to blame and there won't be enough sustained outrage to force a change. I however will not forget. I'm thinking about getting abbott and patrick tattooed on my fingers so I can piss on them every so often
