Good lord. I've been under a couple of water boil advisories because of lost pressure in pipes (which are very annoying but doable when you have electricity) but I've never seen anything that bad.
It looks like the right wing talking points are lining up 1. renewables did this 2. this is Biden’s Katrina and he’s bypassing state government to deal with local democrats 3. what about Cuomo
Good grief. They've incurred incredible damage and they spent as much time planning as your average sex session
To all my Texas bros who may have a garage fridge, you might want to go outside and check your fridge/freezer. I went out side and opened the freezer and I could tell it had thawed a little. Nothing major, but just a tad bit. The issue is my fridge cools based on the fridge temperature. Well as its been cold as shit, the fridge had not warmed up enough to kick the thermostat enough to turn on the compressor. In my fridge (and most models) the compressor cools the freezer first, and that air slowly flows in to the fridge through a flapper valve to cool the fridge. So if the fridge doesn't warm up, the freezer never kicks on. So I heated up some water bottles this afternoon and stuck them in the fridge outside, and 5 minutes later the freezer came on and has been running ever since cooling the freezer down.... which will then cool the fridge down again. I wanted to let everyone know in case anyone else had theirs thawing a little before it became an issue.
I still haven't had as much as a drip in 24 hours and in the 2 days before that barely a stream to fill out a bucket in 10 mins.
i boiled and drank snow this morning. been going through bottle water like crazy i drink a lot of water
Grabbed all the ice I could melt today. Will have to get creative if I don't have water by Monday. But as obnoxious all this all is, my days without running water will equal Flint's years without drinkable water.
So, uhm, have you guys ever heard of Bear Grylls or Junior Miller? They have some methods that could assist....
Srs though, godspeed on the water issue. That is something we have not had to deal with yet. Hopefully we don’t have to.
The slush is gonna be awful for the next day or so tbqh its good but its not as pleasing to walk through
Never lost power here on the east side of Odessa, though a lot of the majority Hispanic rest of the town had a lot of problems. I’m sure the country club crowd that runs the town had nothing to do with this
made it to heb this afternoon and wow, didnt need anything too bad really but seeing no produce and the freezer section pretty much empty was bizarre. a few other aisles were completely wiped out. the only lunch meat they had was bologna and head cheese
Protip: find where your local Chinatown/Koreatown grocery stores are located and go there instead of HEB. I stocked up on 2 weeks worth of frozen dumplings, ramen and eggs from the Korean grocery store 2 blocks away from me
I was driving from Nashville to Knoxville on I 40 almost a year ago when in the median, which in this case was 30 yards wide and a steep hill full of trees there were three dogs all walking together. A big 140 lb white great pyrenees looking dog, a lab, and a little guy. I crossed a bridge immediately after seeing them and the next turn off wasn't for another mile and a half. But remembering it still makes me feel like shit.
TX insurance council says this will be the biggest insurance claims event in state history which is really saying something
11 year old kid died. Two years in the States a few days after playing in the snow for the first time. May he Rest In Peace. Life isn’t fair and so fucked up. I hope you guys and your families are safe.
WHAT THE FUCK DO YOU EXPECT HIM TO DO, WALK AROUND TO PEOPLES HOUSES WITH A TORCH AND MELT THEIR FAUCETS?!?!
And the Sunday shows will spend inordinate amounts of time on rehabilitating Cruz's image and asking if his apology was sufficient.
Not sure if this has been mentioned but a lot of people are going to lose their jobs because of this as well. A lot of the smaller, retail only electricity distributors are going to go out of business by the end of the month.
