I knew I had to be missing something. That’s great news. I just hope we can get this rollout ramped up on the projected levels and hopefully get some more favorable JNJ data. Last few weeks are the first time I’ve been truly positive on us being back to close to normal summer or fall since all the Covid stuff ending. Hopefully we keep on the right track.

Not sure how other states are doing but Alaska has only let 100/130,000 doses go to waste so far. Seems pretty good.

What’s the recommended wait time between doses? I just had my 2nd dose postponed because of distribution issues because of weather. I thought I have seen the recommendation was 21 to 28 days between doses. This will put me at 34 days. I’m assuming there is no issue because the Health authority is running it. But clarification would be nice.

The UK is trying to get most people a first shot, then doing a second, so I don't think a delay is too bad.

this was also my assumption that of the limited number they had it was being put toward first doses over the second.

I assume it's because we stick our glasses on top of the mask so that the nose piece is pinched down? If I don't do that even with a loose mask my lenses will start to fog up.

I think that you'd see that reply from anti-vaxxers everywhere, but I do agree with framing the messaging as "the quicker and more people get the vaccine, the quicker we can ditch masks." I saw several writes, including Yglesias, getting upset at the messaging that mask usage must continue even after you've been fully vaccinated.

I think last week there was enough data from Israel that convinced me that transmission is massively cut with enough vaccination. I think in 2-3 months we'll have low enough cases/spread for masks to become less important. But again, it's just a mask. Who cares.

It's like taking your shoes off at the airport after 9/11 (that we still do even though we don't have shoe bombers - is that BECAUSE we take off our shoes?!). Who cares. It's fine.

I mean, to a point. I don't think anything of wearing a mask at the grocery store, but I'd be pissed/bummed to wear one at a concert.

Also, masks should become a thing during flu season. If you're sick, wear one. Bunch of soft soft people.

That so much of American society remains open must make vaccine messaging that much more difficult.

Ignoring the obvious preventing death angle, in other countries that are still mostly shutdown at least there’s also the selfish angle of wanting vaccines so everyone can get back to a normal life and go to bars, play sports, travel, etc.

Judging from what I see on social media there are enough Americans living mostly normal lives doing these things already so you can see why the selfish angle to getting the vaccine may not move the dial.

TBF i’ve been a proponent we should leave shoes on because the likelihood is so small and we’re more likely to cause issues due to the cleanliness (or lack of).

yeah, the only argument is so they can stop wearing masks. otherwise they are doing the same shit they always do. there are no "lock downs" here.

    But it supports his position!

I think to some extent it is necessary to mold messaging to the typical selfish American Idiot, which countries around the world have been doing for decades. But there will be people who complain about the messaging until the message is "do whatever you want."

Or even better stay home if you're sick. People try to wear it as a badge of honor that they show up to work not feeling well. Its a ridiculous mentality.

Amen. I was going to go back and edit to say: 1) stay home (if you can); 2) wear a mask if you can't stay home.

It's not a choice for far too many people, but a simple action can help a lot.

I used to tell all my workers to show up to work and I'd send them home (without charging sick time) if they were sick. It sounds kind of petty, but there was a problem with people calling in sick on busy days and this stopped it.

I'd argue that it isn't JUST the badge of honor thing but also the issue that some people have to show up to work in order to get paid and make ends meet or they don't have enough time off of work allowed to "waste" a day on being home while sick.

If we see massive resistance because people think it won't matter since "nothing will change" then it may be the most effective way to get people to buy in even if it leads to a spike in cases. That seems more desirable than letting people go unvaccinated and likely just contributing to more variants arising.

In a perfect world yes but that clearly doesn’t move the dial enough on its own or else these same people wouldn’t be living a normal enough social life the last year contributing to that number.

My point is more that if that number doesn’t scare those people enough to get vaccinated, then they either never will or won’t until it affects someone close to them
