Sorry, the crash and burn of the SCT steams my dainty pantaloons, I guess b/c as an atty I was beaten over the head with this theory of "awe of the modern court and their wisdom/reasonableness."
https://www.axios.com/trump-2024-republican-party-cpac-b687bd9f-6702-47cb-b1ac-d112deb23880.html Scoop: Trump to claim total control of GOP In his first post-presidential appearance, Donald Trump plans to send the message next weekend that he is Republicans' "presumptive 2024 nominee" with a vise grip on the party's base, top Trump allies tell Axios. What to watch: A longtime adviser called Trump's speech a "show of force," and said the message will be: "I may not have Twitter or the Oval Office, but I'm still in charge." Payback is his chief obsession. Axios has learned that Trump advisers will meet with him at Mar-a-Lago this week to plan his next political moves, and to set up the machinery for kingmaking in the 2022 midterms. Trump is expected to stoke primary challenges for some of those who have crossed him, and shower money and endorsements on the Trumpiest candidates. State-level officials, fresh off censuring Trump critics, stand ready to back him up. Why it matters: Trump's speech Sunday at CPAC in Orlando is designed to show that he controls the party, whether or not he runs in 2024. His advisers argue that his power within the GOP runs deeper and broader than ever, and that no force can temper him. "Trump effectively is the Republican Party," Trump senior adviser Jason Miller told me. "The only chasm is between Beltway insiders and grassroots Republicans around the country. When you attack President Trump, you're attacking the Republican grassroots." The big picture: The few Republicans who have spoken ill of Trump since the election — including House members who voted to impeach him, and senators who voted to convict — have found themselves censured, challenged and vilified by the parties in their home states. What's next: Trump's leadership PAC, Save America, has $75 million on hand, and he has a database of tens of millions of names. The long game: Many Trump confidants think he'll pretend to run but ultimately pass. He knows the possibility — or threat — gives him leverage and attention. A Trump source said some Republicans have told him: "If you endorse me, I'll run." But advisers say that's not how it'll work. This week's meeting will aim to tap the brakes. Instead, Trump is going to set up a formal process for vetting potential endorsees, including a requirement that they raise money and put together an organization. What we're watching: Trump plans to argue in the CPAC speech that many of his predictions about President Biden have already come true. Look for Trump to lay into "the swamp" and Beltway insiders in a big way. The Trump source said: "Much like 2016, we’re taking on Washington again."
Top 5 most important documents in American history: 1. Constitution 2. Federalist 65 3. Ginni Thomas’ printout of her Facebook feed she gives to Clarence to read while drinking his prune juice 4. Declaration of Independence 5. Some weird Jordan Peterson thing, probably
List is laughable for excluding True Allegiance by New York Times best selling author and modern day Ayn Rand Benjamin Shapiro
I think most of this is accurate, he is in charge of a smaller radical Republican party that will dominate any R primary. What remains to be seen is if he can carry these Republicans to victory in races that he is not on the ballot. Based on 2018 midterms and 2020 run-offs I'm not sure that he is.
I think it is generally true that he is a very influential player in the GOP. However, always always always make sure your bullshit detector goes off when you hear Jason Miller and his other cronies use language like “he is more powerful now than ever before!” This is a classic propaganda tactic to give the illusion of overwhelming strength, and Trump uses some variation of this constantly with his “a trade deal like nobody could ever even imagine” or stuff like “the biggest victory in the history of the United States.” To use the quote from George R.R. Martin, “Any man who must say ‘I am the king’ is no true king.”
You'd think in some places he can get more radicals, but if the 2018 voter bloc is active again I'm not sure he can get enough. His crazy bullshit will be harder to win with in the suburbs
Oh I completely agree, but it's not really the quotes from that dumbass, it's the actions of the state legislatures and of House and Senate republicans that they know they can't cross him or their political future is in doubt.
they're weaning trump off of his stimulants for the week so he can have big psycho energy for his speech
All he's been doing since January 7 is watching TV all day, every day. Decent chance he's in rare form
Thankfully I can assume that Trump and his shitbag cronies will be as terrible at trying to control the GOP as they've been at everything else they do, and it will just be a disaster for that party instead of some new, effective organization. Let Mitch reap what he sowed.
Such a great idea, tying your entire political apparatus to a 74 year old obese demented COVID survivor. This should end well.
These axios leaks are always trial balloons. Someone smart on his team leaks this shit. Then people like McCarthy and Graham fly down there a talk him off the ledge. Then the speech isnt as inflammatory as it originally sounded
give us the crazy, we want to see the crazy i say this mainly in the context of cpac being a pretty obscure (and frankly fucking dorky) event for people outside of this politics bubble we inhabit itt
Albertans love their faux cowboy masculinity as much as oil. I have met a couple energy execs from there that have listened to every one of his words the last few years. Not fair to lump most of Canada with Alberta tbh
we need fuel to talk shit about canada while the elected representatives in the wealthiest country in the world try to figure out how to pay people $1400 so that they can pay their bills and stay in their homes
I wish he would have waited until after he had spoken to drown CPAC with it. Good chance he’s not speaking now.
Republicans are good a sniffing out black musicians who have listened to the Black Israelites shouting at pedestrians Probably not a great thing to keep happening
