Any of our North Carolina posters have any stores recs in the Charlotte area? Gonna be up there this weekend
All ABC my man. The one on N Graham St usually has a solid stash of Woodinville single barrel barrel proof bottles that have all been really good, and I got an EC Toasted Barrel there for $50 last week. But aside from that, enjoy your pick of Makers Mark and Woodford reserve for reasonable prices
Yeah I knew it was state run. Grabbed an Eagle Rare at ABC off Edgewood in Gastonia for 35+tax. Gonna go to Frugal MacDoogle tomorrow in Fort Mill, SC
If you’re south of the city then Southern Spirits in Indian Land is good. Just south of Ballantyne. ETA- it’s in SC
Anyone know where Bulleit is sourcing bourbon now? I’ve not typically been a fan but a bunch of single barrels have hit NC the last couple of weeks. 104 proof, viscous mouthfeel and good depth of flavor.
You may be right. Is there an age statement on your bottles? There were rumors it was Four Roses, but I don't think that's true.
I’ve heard those rumors too, particularly on r/bourbon, but I’m as skeptical as you are. no age statement. There is a laser code but Bulleit is notoriously evasive with regard to product origin so I’m not going to bother emailing.
four roses supplied their 10 year barrel strengths, thought bulleit was supposed to be coming out with their own version of the 10 yeast combos this year like 4 roses as well...
state controlled aspect sucks. Crazy long lines, little supply so they have to give the years supply of weller special and blantons and Buffalo trace to the people at the end of the line resulting in nothing ever being one the shelves to buy. At least in Nashville or Atlanta if you spend a lot of money you can get in with a store and get something.
grabbed a Bulleit SBSP last year in Kentucky, was my favorite bottle I opened in 2020. Delightful my buddy has one of the same bottles he hasn’t opened yet, I’m going to get it from him somehow
This is why I stopped shopping at ABC in AL. I spend all my money at two stores in MS. They let me keep as many bottles as I want on hold and I pick them up when I can get over there. Both usually give me a nice Christmas present at the end of the year. ABC is run by a HS dropout behind the register who doesn’t give a shit.
Decided to get the 4 year in the vertical series. My buddy said he saw it for a good price. It was the rye series so that actually didn’t help, not a fan, and I loved the Pinhook 5 year vertical series bourbon.
my guess is those will be sourced too just under the bulleit name, kind of surprised 4 roses would want to source those lines as thats their special thing.but I haven't seen the bottles yet so who knows if its real
I went to 4-5 stores this weekend. None of the people said they had seen any EHT in a year. Even hit up Frugal MacDoogle and Southern Spirits in SC. Definitely had a better selection but still stuff I see every day in ATL. The manager at Southern Spirits did tell me that a lot of allocated stuff is heading overseas. Japan gets a ton of bourbon supposedly
A buddy knows I have been looking for MWND and found it in a local store in the DC area for $170. I know it retails for around $100 but almost paying double just feels not-good.
I can't really bring myself to spend over $100 on a bottle of bourbon recently. Paying $125 for a bottle of Blantons just seems crazy. I really don't even feel like paying retail, i.e. $90+ for Barrel Dovetail.
Give me a few bottles of allocated bourbon that you feel are so eye opening and life changing that they are worth paying over $100. Don't give me anything over $200. And I'm certainly not paying $500+ for a bottle of bourbon. And I'm talking about secondary market prices.
Let me tell you a little story about a bottle of liquid gold that is widely considered the nectar of the gods....Legent is the name.
Yeah people around Cincinnati know all the delivery dates and wait around for them to be released. I'm so disenchanted with how hard it is to find good bourbon that I doubt I'll hunt very hard this year, probably just stick to my daily drinkers and call it a day, well, year.
Our situation in South Florida is so bad, that I stopped at a Publix liquor store and found a bottle of regular old Buffalo Trace (it was their last one) and celebrated like someone just sold me a bottle of rare Pappy for $15.
found out my in-laws live near that chalet in OH that gets the Weller drops regularly, and my wife's uncle has two bottles of SR and two bottles of owa for me, so that's nice.
Picked up a 1792 Thomas S Moore port cask finish today. Today I learned that I'm not a fan of cask finishes.
Another solid day. If anyone in the thread has a bottle or two of Stagg Jr. they would be willing to sell let me know. I'm completely out and can't find anything out here in Denver.
The Kosher wheat recipe is fantastic. Curious what you think of the Kosher ryes. Must confess I don’t care for either, but a couple of my bourbon-drinking friends insist they’re really good.
Will be trying over the next week or two. They just arrived today. I've got about 70 bottles and I tend to drink it instead of letting it sit, but with approximately 25 bottles open it'll have to wait its turn. Will try the wheat and which one of the ryes did your friends like best?
Got a vault key. Opened vault as soon as I got the email. Placed Old Rip Van Winkle in cart, and by the time I typed my credit card number in, it was gone. Bought an Elmer T. Lee Single Barrel.
Yeah, an exhilarating 1.5 minutes. I legit don’t know how someone got it faster, I opened it as soon as the email came in, but a darn fine consolation prize.
so close... my buddy got an orvw. the e-mails obviously don't all get sent and arrive simultaneously, if i understand how computers work...
