vaccine covers variant discovered in UK. Less well so on variant discovered in SA, but don't see that growing out strongly here, yet.
I may have too much faith in Americans but once it's open season for everyone on the vaccine I think a lot of those people who opted out initially would jump in just because of a little extra time + FOMO. You'll still have the hardcore anti-vaxxers but I don't think that's most people who opted out of this. At least anecdotally.
I definitely agree with this and also may be too optimistic. I think time plus a bit of FOMO will convert a big chunk of people (maybe not enough to reach a real herd immunity) that are skeptical now.
knowing your daughter is a brain dead idiot who is despised by millions has to hurt too so maybe satan only throttles non-meghan related links
I have a question. Once a person gets the 2nd dose of the vaccine are they safe to be around high risk people that haven’t been infected or gotten a vaccine?
I think there’s anecdotal evidence that getting the vaccine cuts down on transmission, but he official opinion at this time is that the best practice is to maintain social distance and masks as much as possible. That said I expect the overwhelming majority of people will treat vaccination as a get out of quarantine free card.
At least 2 weeks after second dose, probably significantly reducing risk, but likely not perfectly. The data is still coming in on this.
I think judging social media as a proxy for mostly normal life isn’t reality. TSA throughput yesterday was down over 50% compared to the same Sunday last year and most of the people in our network are still doing the same thing they towards the beginning. We’re eating outdoors a little more, but still have no interest in dining indoors, seeing a movie indoors, etc.
So for all of the fucking idiots who say they are waiting to see more on the vaccine...have any shared when they've seen enough to call it? Had my wife's nurse friend throw that one and another family member who threw a "we just don't know enough" and it may me wonder when they think they'll know enough. Which travel "influencer" or mommy blogger do we think they are waiting on?
I'm not waiting to see more I'm just waiting for my place in line. Is that where most of us TMBers are right now? I'm 42 years old and my mom and stepdad haven't even had the chance to get theirs yet so I'm kinda waiting to make sure they get theirs first. Or should I be signing up for this thing now and trying to get in?
Requiring the vaccination for travel is probably the best way to incentivize people to get it. Sure, Billy Bob McFuckstick from Aubaloosa, AL still won’t get it but since he hasn’t been more than 10 miles from his house his entire life he’s at a much lower risk to get and/or spread it. Also I’ve seen a bunch of companies giving their employees a bonus if they get it. That’s another good one that’s mutually beneficial for both the employee and the employer.
Unfortunately, that's not how vaccination works. They're making a choice for the non-fittest who don't have a choice.
According to the NYT vaccine tracker, New Mexico is at 100% of shots used, 14 states over 90%. Is there a huge problem brewing or are these numbers just not accurate?
They’re waiting for the Chili’s spokesperson to respond to their message for a joint press conference. This needs to be carefully planned.
Seems like a great thing that few vaccines are going to waste. Kudos to those states, hopefully the others catch up.
Ya but if states are out of shots, thats a really bad thing. My parents and sister had to schedule their second shot 40 days out, if states are in even worse shape than Illinois when it comes to supply, it could mean a lot of people not getting second shots in a timely manner or maybe at all.
Who are we blaming here? The states for successfully administering their vaccines? The companies for not getting more doses out? The extreme weather situation in the south that delayed 6M doses? The Biden Admin? Aren’t we up to like 1.5M doses a day compared to .9M a month ago?
Not blaming anyone, if I had to assign blame I guess it falls on the Biden administration. They need to be doing whatever they can to make sure these doses are getting manufactured and shipped out. This is a problem we can't afford to have and no one has the resources the federal government has to get this done.
Believe Pfizer and Moderna are about to almost double their doses they're shipping out by mid-March. I'm not as worried about really delayed second doses, I really wish there was approval from the FDA to just prioritize first doses especially given a lot of the recent data showing how effective it still is in real life versus a controlled study.
I got the Modena vaccine 2nd dose yesterday. Feel like shit. Once vaccines are made available to every one, is it advisable to get the other brand vaccines?
I do know from talking to a research nurse at the clinic my trial is at that they're trying to do trials based around this. I believe she explained that any vaccine that requires a booster generally must be considered safe to be mixed with any other brand before getting full FDA approval, the only reason this didn't happen during the earlier phases was because of time and there were no other approved vaccines for COVID.
It’s kinda funny, besides herb’s obsession with loving Ohio and their elections and caneknight’s hyperbolic but accurate hatred of Florida/Floridians, no one else is as concerned with their own state than illinihockey. Never shuts the fuck up about how Illinois is doing with the pandemic. Self-centered doesn’t begin to cover it.
I read the LA Times article on it, but I'm hearing everything from "2nd pandemic" to "Eh, no big deal." I guess it's too early to tell.
I am eagerly awaiting the advertising tsunami from these drug titans to flood our airwaves to convince us which is better
34,000 respondents. Don’t think that’s nearly large enough of a sample size for a country of 330 million.
the same polling everyone says is not a true indication we should go away with? lol you’re kind of making my point
