Another match point... and it's finally over! Great hold in that last game by Brady. Muchova must have been throwing everything at her going by the scores, but just couldn't get the break back. Going to be a super interesting final!
That was essentially an early round showing for Novak. Having the top seed, another day to rest and ensuing blood bath tomorrow, it’s all but a forgone conclusion.
I hope you're wrong, Will, but you're probably not. I'm just holding out hope that Medvedev has reached the point where he can go with Djoke in a slam final. But hell, he has to get to the final first and Tsits won't be easy...
Daniil is my favorite men’s player to watch at this point. I also thought this morning was going the distance, helps him out tons on short rest against Novak. Looking forward to both finals.
I think med has a good shot at beating him. He can play defense on a different level than most of the other guys.
H2H Novak is 4-3, however Dan took 3 out of the last 4 times they played. Also on of those losses was the first time they ever met and Dan retired in what was a close match.
The fucking court coverage here. He’s outside the opposing doubles alley on return, then all the way at the other one with time to spare on the winner.
So god damn quick. 99.9999 percent of people wouldn’t even react to that shot because they couldn’t get within 5 feet of that thing.
Utterly ridiculous stat for Naomi - she is 44-1 when winning the first set in a slam. And 20-0 in Melbourne.
Naomi not even playing particularly well - Brady just making too many unforced errors. This could be a quick finish if she can't step it up...
Just saw the score - can't say I'm surprised Djoke is going to win, but I thought it would be more of a contest.
So much for Danil stans. What a capitulation. Dang what a dominant performance for Djoko though. He's going to be thinking about #20 by the year end if he can keep this up.
Drastic cut to prize money for Miami. The prize money for the 2021 Miami Open is heavily reduced from previous years due to the pandemic. The winners will win $300,110, an 80-percent cut on the $1.354 million Roger Federer and Ash Barty took home in 2019. The overall prize money is down from $16.7 million in 2019 to $6.68 in 2021 ($3.34 million each for ATP and WTA). • Winners: $300,110 • Runners-up: $165,000 • Semi-finalists: $93,000 • Quarter finalists: $65,000 • Last 16: $40,000 • Third round: $26,000 • Second round: $16,000 • First round: $10,000
Might render the men's side unwatchable. I'm sure there will be a few guys that will be exciting to watch with a lot of snooze fests in between.
Yeah, I'm definitely interested to see what the field looks like. It's still Masters 1000 points but the money of a 500 basically. And the clay swing starts a week or two after back in Europe.
