Think this part of that post piece is important. Biden's tone vis a vis Trump's tone matters in how many people are attempting to come here.
I don't have a problem with your kids school, I have a problem with that fact that my fucking taxes pay for that shit here in Florida
There's lots of reasons to be upset about pretty much every U.S. administration on immigration to varying degrees (Trump being among the worst) but we need to at least be intellectually honest about the nuance. One policy was ripping small children away from their parents because we were detaining their parents instead of letting them go and not allowing them to be detained as a family. This is for teenagers coming alone, I guess?
That something I believe should happen. However I also understand we're so far away from a global infrastructure to where it's feasible, it's not worth discussing more than as a future state of utopia if everything goes the right way. And maybe something our great great great great grandchildren might see*
Yes there's obviously decades of systemic issues of the CIA and other US government agencies basically causing the whole problem we're dealing with. My point is that Biden and the executive branch have immense control over how things are handled when people arrive and they shouldn't need to wait for legislation to exercising power that has already been granted to them.

didn't really wanna put this in the bham thread to keep it somewhat apolitical so thought it would go well here bham's "progressive" mayor just said this bullshit about the historic union drive at the amazon factory in bessmer
Republicans seem to have no idea what Democrats actuality think about stuff. They just all believe their own propaganda. So sometimes their attacks appear to have been devised by a malevolent 6 year old.
“Wait. You actually care about the issues and aren’t just a team sports person?” - GOP thought leaders
It's like when you live in an alternate reality where everyone in a party is a baby killing communist space laser deep state globalist it's hard to actually differentiate between people within that party or like, even basic fact from fiction.
seeing Virginia Republicans flail around non-stop because they know they've lost the state for at least a generation or two warms my heart so much. it's gone, they know it's gone, but they can't handle that reality so the tantrums and jackassery they throw over it is just *chef's kiss*
The Dem lineup for this insurrection hearing is absolutely atrocious. Not that we should be surprised.
To provide context, that's in response to the effort to prevent a vote on unionization. It's also happening in a neighboring city.
if we did a bunch of stuff to help fix issues in places people are fleeing from than I would be too. That goes for moving within the country too.

I suppose a charitable view is she's putting a lot of work into the "I wanted to keep the fillabuster at all cost but the GOP left me no choice" tactic. Buuuut Im getting pretty skeptical
Agreed, just kept your stupid mouth shut, you don't live in WV and no one in AZ cares. Don't want any fucking finger wagging from people here who continue to give Dems the benefit of the doubt when they do nothing but signal that they aren't going to work for us. There is no political reason in an increasingly liberal state for her to do this and it's why so many of us are rightly skeptical of things changing.
You put up any fight against the voting rights act, which will be necessary in order to keep Georgia blue, you only hurt yourself, your constituents, and absolutely your re-election chances. I'm honestly disgusted you aren't seeing someone like Stacey Abrams on national television saying Sinema and Manchin are opposed to civil rights when they spew this filth.
I would wait and until they have to get rid of it to pass something they want and see what she does. I have no clue what she'll do but seems pointless to worry about it right now
Then if you are her you shut your mouth, it takes literally no effort. Saying these things scores you ZERO political points for your re-election chances. This is PAC that helped AOC get elected in 2018 that is running ads against Manchin and also Sinema. I might throw them a twenty. https://www.noexcusespac.com/
arizona seems to like fake independent grandstanding politicians who will stand up to both sides, even if its just rhetorically like Collins in Maine is not a bad comp, where shes a party loyalist, but also won in '20 if you trust the pollsters involved in that race, because she voted against ACB and made a big deal about it even if it didn't actually do anything
Arizona has only shifted more Blue, that is a fact. You show me polling that says people want the filibuster and I'll shut up, but I suspect there is none or it's considered very unfavorable. I'm tired of living in a world where we're just supposed to eat this plate of shit because we know that "they'll come around." I live in Georgia that is barely Blue now, I don't know of a single person who supports the filibuster, especially when you don't frame it as it being used to prevent court packing. Oh look, Sean McWeeWee's outfit even showed that it's popular to eliminate it when framing it as standing in the way of civil rights. https://www.dataforprogress.org/blog/2020/8/13/voters-support-eliminating-the-filibuster
it's not about the issue itself it's about her acting like she's not a party loyalist will she cave going forward? who knows, but the political calculation is very obvious. iirc mark kelly is running the same game but is just equivocating instead of being pro filibuster.
For once could you acknowledge this shit is only hurtful to the very people they needed in order to get elected? I don't care if she's saying this knowing she'll cave, it takes zero effort to not piss people off by releasing statements like this.
What? Arizona and Georgia have the literal same partisan lean btw, and Georgia is shifting left faster
You've made this argument yourself, you need a new VRA or you can kiss Georgia goodbye. Saying you support a filibuster which would prevent a new VRA does nothing to help you curry favor with Black voters.
you understand i'm the person who has argued the whole time that the real test and where the filibuster dies or gets heavily curtailed is around voting rights? those are weak as hell margins in the decontextualized argument and why you were always going to get the moderates coming out pro after Mitch tried to have the filibuster fight on his terms take a breath man
I don't get the need for preemptive anger. You're going to burn yourself out doing that. I would not waste energy getting mad about what she says in emails to constituents. That's just me
