From Sampson's interview with Lea today on the Athletic "So much of how Notre Dame football is processed is big-picture, national championships, the College Football Playoff, graduating champions. How did you view how the season ended against Clemson and Alabama from that bigger picture perspective? It was incredibly painful. Those things you don’t get over. I’ve had a little time to reflect, and I’m reflecting on four years and trying to take in everything that we went through and accomplished and the adversity we faced. I think there’s a lot that we can be proud of. And I think there’s a lot that can be built upon. And it’s not finished. And I think (Kelly) is energized to continue this march toward a national championship. They’ll get there. They’re going to do it. Success is incremental. And sometimes it’s easy to lose patience with process, particularly as a fan, right? But the strides that program has made to sustain success, you’re on the brink of turning another corner there. What I would love to see for that community is just an excitement about what lies ahead. It may not be immediate, but it’s coming. I’m just excited to watch what this next iteration looks like and how it will deliver a new version of this program that ultimately is going to win it all. It’s coming."
After reading something like that, then you go look at Preseason polls that have ND at like 19- I'm buying the stonk up
As much as we are systematically weaker than Bama/Clemson/OSU I feel like along with a couple other programs (OU, Georgia, ????) are stronger than most other programs in the country. There are a handful of programs with better talent in a given year that can beat us, but they also go out and blow games that they shouldn't and end up at 8-4. We are like the Oakland A's that rack up 90 wins every year but don't have the ace pitcher to do anything in the playoffs.
I’m good with that statement. I was worried it was going to be that we weren’t going to participate at all
Yeah, that’s actually a great statement for the players. “We won’t license unless our kids get paid” is nice to hear.
Good for ND/Swarbrick. Hopefully other schools do the same and move the NIL process along more quickly
“However, if they’re caught with even a single joint they’re suspended for the season and face expulsion from school.”
I haven't been following too closely, but believe EA said they're ~2-4 years from the game actually being released, they just said they're working on it again. So I think the university would hope they could make progress on NIL before it came down to them not actually being in the game.
lol I had always wondered if Prosise got paid for that. Glad he did - they have used that commercial for a long time.
We had a discussion when it ran during a game this year, we all assumed ND got paid but that Prosise got screwed, glad he didn't. He was also added to the Tampa practice squad in January, so he probably gets a ring.
Onefootdown/SB nation click bait articles with zero substance is just perfect combo for the gold seater segment of the fan base
Spoiler On ND's 14-day recruiting penalty. I think many of us were worried that it would come into effect as soon as the visit ban is lifted, but I'm told ND can choose which days they want to designate these 14 days to be. So, it could be 7 days over Thanksgiving and 7 days over Christmas. Or, 14 Wednesdays in a row. The point being, it shouldn't affect ND's recruiting much at all. I know a lot of people are wondering about what is going on with 2022 QB recruiting. The big issue is, game film very important, and so is knowing their personality. ND really puts a lot of weight on their personality. They want to know about leadership, and how they handle instruction, and how quickly they can pick up things. When you can get a guy to throw for you, you can see a flaw, point out the flaw, have them execute it again with instruction, and you can see how quickly they can pick up things. Or, sit and watch film with them and see how quickly they pick up concepts and defenses and coverages. None of that can be done right now, so ND is kind of shooting in the dark hoping to make the right decision with this. None of this can happen because of the dead period, so that's why this is taking longer than we all want. As of now, I don't think ND is in any rush to get a QB in fold, and I don't think they will push hard to get one in fold right now. Allar could be offered at some point soon, but I don't think ND is in a big hurry to get one guy in fold right now. I think they'd like to continue to gather info and keep talking to them. I wanted to try to get some ideas on DB at this point. ND offereed the two DBs at Bergan Catholic. Bellamy and Gould. I was told Gould is probably a bit more likely than Bellamy at this point, but both seem interested. There has been speculation that ND could have a chance to flip Jyaire Brown from Ohio State to ND. I do know conversations have been had here, but I think it's an uphill battle here. I'd say it's less than 50% it happens, but I do think there is communication here so anything is possible. Also, unfortunately, I've heard most think Xavier Nwamkpa is leaning towards OSU. Some even believe he's a silent commit. Davison Igbinosun was another offer recently. He's on the board, but I think ND has some guys a bit higher than him at this point. I did hear ND seems to be doing well with Nikai Martinez. He seems genuinely interested in ND at this point. Good communication here. Jared Kerr is a guy I really like on film and I heard that he's shown quite a bit more interest lately compared to initially, so hopefully ND can remain in the mix. Watch his film. I like him. Sherrod Colvin is another guy I like on film. I've heard the communication has been OK, nothing great. Not sure ND is heavily involved at this point. I think the next few weeks we will have a better idea on him. I also like Devon Moore on film. Heard he's shown strong interest as of late. A guy to remember. Another name to watch is KJ Winston. Heard he's shown very solid interest in ND. Another player I like on film quite a bit. I do know ND had a zoom call with DE Earnest Cooper. Heard that went very well. His interest in ND continues to grow. He's a DE, but could potentially move inside as well. ND has strong interest in him as well. A name to keep an eye on. As of now, at DB, I think this is much like most seasons at DB. ND has to offer a lot to find those who are truly candidates. I think they're sifting through that now, trying to find out who has true interest, and then adjusting their board accordingly. I'd guess we'd have a better idea in the next month or so at DB.
seriously, dude is a freaking monster. They have him lining up at MLB to wreak havoc. Dude looks like a man child out there
I think every recruiting article going forward is going to include at least an excerpt of how Kelly has gotten involved.
I think many of us were worried that it would come into effect as soon as the visit ban is lifted, but I'm told ND can choose which days they want to designate these 14 days to be. No one was worried. And if you were kill yourself.
Singer just put in a CB for Nikai Martinez. He's a CB from FL that has already visited and has a top 3 of UF/Clemson/ND. He would be a very good pick up
