They're extremely rare (emphasis on extremely), but they do occur.

There have been a couple at Park City this season (off of 9990 on the Canyon side) but I believe they were off-piste. The paths to those areas were roped off with warning signs when I was there earlier this month.

Anywhere in Summit on Friday and Saturday is a zoo. Just go in knowing that and you won't have a terrible time.

Taos had an inbounds avalanche that killed 2 people I think 2 years ago.

I did an off piste run in Park City / Canyons that a guy died in an avalanche on the following year.

It can, but it's rare. Most are probably different than you are seeing on youtube. It can actually happen in trees too.

Saturday just means you take a few runs and just soak in the apres scene all day.

Yeah what you are seeing is probably people backcountry with a go pro. In bounds you can still have snow slides in tree runs where the snow is unstable and the trees contribute to the the demise

ok, but, like, it sounds like the backcountry stuff is a lot more dangerous right? You're making it sound like in bounds is just as dangerous because of trees.

Went over Christmas and loved it. Terrain parks were closed because of limited staffing, and all dining is to go, but the mountain was great & not overly crowded.

Also boarded Telluride on Thursday, first time boarding in Colorado. Felt like a skiers mountain, definitely pricey, but some nice runs with good length and elevation change.

The town is set at the end of a box canyon so it had great views.

Still kinda partial to California skiing when the conditions are right.

Been wanting to go cause I think it would be cool and I think the southwest vibe would be a nice change of pace.

Skiied Aspen and Crested Butte this week. Highlands was awesome. Was my first time back to CB in 5 years. 5 years ago I could only ski half the mountain, if that. This time around, hit North Face, Spellbound, Headwall, Teocali, and Funnel. Immensely satisfying and really fun. Just wish it had dumped snow one night.

sounds fun. Crows will be brutal, but as others said, as long as you know lines will be long, you'll be fine. Adjust your expectations.

I've never gone to Keystone at Night, but I am interested in heading up there on a Friday night to snowboard and miss the Saturday crowds

Skied 3 days at Heavenly and one day at Squaw this week. Definitely want to go back to squaw when the snow is better. Heavenly seemed kinda pedestrian outside of the incredible lake views tbh

It was really unique from a terrain standpoint compared to the CO places I’ve been to. “Craggy” I guess is the word that comes to mind. Only did a couple blacks because several looked sketchy as hell with the current conditions but the steep stuff was great

The problem we ran into on Sat at Breck was the line for the gondola in the parking lot. About 45 mins worth. Once we got to mountain, we were able to utilize the singles line very well, and the lines werent bad. Maybe a top wait of 10 mins.

Big fan of Key at night. Was able to fly down and back up. Very long runs.

Is this normal operating procedure for all 3? I am trying to plan a spring break trip for 2022, so I guess it needs to be Breck.

Depends on snowfall and it changes every year. If you’re planning this far out, I think a safe assumption for most of I-70 (excluding A Basin) is mid-April +/- 2 weeks. If you’re flying in and planning it months in advance, first week of April is the latest I’d plan for and I’d expect slushy spring skiing yet keep an open mind for a late spring dump of powder. I’ve been dumped on closing weekends multiple times and I no longer live in CO.

March is the best time of the year IMHV. But April can be amazing as well. Anything in late April is pushing it unless it is a super cold and wet winter

Most Epic resorts tend to close on Easter weekend.

There’s a few exceptions, but overall that’s the standard for them

Was just talking to my brother about this yesterday. Short on snow, but the snow that fell was high moisture content, so at least that bodes better than it could for the summer/fire season.
