#Auburn Tigers #Penn State Nittany Lions Looking at going to the game with a group of friends assuming Covid restrictions are no longer in place. Any recs on where to book rooms or better to get an Airbnb.
Better to get an Airbnb but you are going to pay an arm and a leg regardless. Would try to get something on the books quickly though.
Hope to get up there for the game but going to Madison for Labor Day so may not be able to swing two trips in three weeks.
If you don't care about bars find the cheapest place If you cared about bars, I'd give the same advice and tell you to Uber/lyft
The Hyatt downtown has rooms for 15k that weekend (cash is $1k). Hoping to make it to this as well. Fingers crossed.
I think I still have some hyatt points if someone wants to use those and pay me for them. I did that for Jimmy the Saint before
My buddy just booked a place. We can cancel up until August so we can find something else if needed. 4.5 miles from the stadium. Is the best place to fly into Pittsburgh? Is there a shuttle service or better to rent a car?
Flights into/out of state college are covid cheap right now. Connections to get in: chicago, dulles, detroit, Philly
Have a AirBNB with the Boys, but now some couples we are friends with want to go. 2 of the 4 are from PA. So we will see. My companies HQ is in PA trying to make it a business trip.
I’ll check that out. I’m flying from SoCal, would prefer to fly out of Orange County so Chicago could work.
There's no reason not to just fly into State college right now. I was looking at flights to phoenix for a wedding and they were $300 round trip. Save the car rental
Really want to. Definitely coming to the Plains in 2022. Actually, coming to the Plains in 3 weeks. Driving from CLT to Destin and want to stop somewhere fun for the night so we're stopping in Auburn. Family trip so nothing crazy but any good restaurant recs would be great. TIA.
Also, brother works for Tim Cook and talks trash with him about Auburn football. He's hoping for an invite to Tim's box next year. I'm hoping for a tag along.
A couple of hours. Think we can find better options for food since the distance is an issue. If your going to the game, i'm coming up for sure.
I'm in for some cunty beers if I make it. And definitely look into flying into SCE right now. I checked last night and it's about $315 from PHX right now. I'm thinking of booking now since I have so damn many AA credits from cancelling trips last year.
SC actually has a pretty strong selection considering it's a college town in the middle of nowhere. If you decide to venture downtown at all I'll point you to some good spots. But even if you really want to avoid the bars there are some solid bottle shops to pick stuff up.
The Hound, The Depot, and Acre are really good. The Hound is my favorite of that group. Also Byrons bbq for breakfast or lunch.
State College is small enough it doesn’t really matter where you stay whether Airbnb or hotel...just uber to the stadium on gameday morning and/or downtown and back any other time. There’s a few hotels downtown, the Hyatt as mentioned itt is the nicest/best and you can walk to everything from there. I’m really pumped for this series. I’ll be making my way to the Plains in 2022.
if you care about bars and you are wealthy definitely get an air bnb downtown and dont take uber/lyft. those systems will be overloaded during peak hours.
Also the Irritable Bao if it is open on a day you are there. I think they are closed Sun-Tues. Local spot a guy I went to HS with opened. His wife's family is from China and she makes incredible bao. Always a line to get in that place for breakfast and lunch.
My buddy booked a house, so I’ve got that going. He should be able to get us some tickets thru Auburn. Now the plan is on when to start booking flights. I saw the Pirates are out of town that same weekend and the Steelers schedule isn’t out for another few months.
I booked PHX to SCE for $336 last weekend for the game. Only paid $99 out of pocket after credits, etc. for two tickets. It's typically double that into SCE for game weekends, especially big ones, so I'd rather have to unravel it later if the trip won't work out than miss out on that kind of fare. So if you're considering flying into SC I wouldn't wait too long. Obviously you'll have more options if you're doing PIT but keep in mind it's a sizeable drive to SC from there. Although preliminarily looking at PSU-Auburn next year it looks like we'll be in for a drive no matter where we fly into.
Tigers vs Worst team in the country last year . Respect to Penn st , I remember y'all played Bama to open up about 10 yrs ago too
If you are looking at going to the Auburn game you fly into ATL and then it’s about 1.5 hours on the interstate to Auburn. It’s super easy. Probably looking at Pitt since I’m trying to fly out of Orange County. I’ll look into SCE.
SCE is a connection. It's a 3 hr drive from the pittsburgh airport to state college. Unless there's something you want to do there I would just go through whereever to end up in state college.
