I think that's possible, although I'm trying not to get my hopes up. I'm fine with keeping him around, too. He's really good and in his prime. I'm just guessing he'd prefer to go elsewhere at this point.
I don't blame him at all, but sitting out for 3/4 of a season is usually a pretty big indicator that someone doesn't want to be around. Maybe the new staff and front office will help. Unless he was really injured I guess.
He didn't sit out. He was injured. And even if he was 90% by the end (doesn't sound like he was), what was the point? We benefitted from him not playing, and he had nothing to gain from risking injury going into FA.
I could be waaay off. Weren't there strong rumors that the team put out that he was injured, but he really didn't want to play or risk it? Maybe this was just something dumb I heard on 97.1 or some shit.
I forgot that the pick wouldn't be this year. You're definitely right if they can line up a pick for 2021.
I've seen some fans suggest he should have been playing because of how long he was out, but nothing from any media I read. Maybe the team and player would have pushed to play at the end if the team wasn't benefiting from losing, but I really doubt he was completely healthy and he straight up quit to avoid other injuries.
People are going to read these quotes and flip out but it’s not like she’s going to add any insight. I think it’s good that someone from the Ford family is getting move involved in the entire operation; the lack of accountability from the top down the last fifty years is the biggest issue this franchise has faced.
Didn’t Karen Stafford post something on Instagram after the Watt press conference about people wanting to be here, and everybody was taking that as a dig at Golladay? Players play less than 100% all the time.
Birkett is being super weird about this and I don't get it. She should be sitting in on some of those meetings. She owns the team. Seems like there's some involvement that should be required. That doesn't mean she's making decisions. Seems like the negative reaction of some is just that they're used to the Fords just being on the yacht and writing checks when people tell them to.
I don't know what Stafford's wife said and I don't really care to try to read into what she did say. Players play less than 100%, but some injuries are more challenging to play through, especially at a position like WR. And I don't really know why you care about that. You would have been mad if he played because we might have won a game down the stretch with him.
From listening on the radio, it sounded like a fact that he could have played, but sat because of his contract and frustrations with the organization. And I don't blame him. He's a pro and I'm not one to judge his situation. I sit out the Lions every year, after the first couple of games too. Again, this could be something that the 97.1 guys, who also probably had beef with the Lions, made up. But they spoke of it a few different times and I don't listen to that channel very often.
https://www.nfl.com/_amp/daniel-jer...ospect-rankings-2-0?__twitter_impression=true Chase or Waddle; lock and load.
A secret confession is I really think Pitts could be on the same level as Chase or Waddle. He’s not a TE like Hockenson is; in fact I would almost say he’s closer to Golladay than he is Hockenson.
Campbell is making the rounds doing a bunch of interviews this week. The national media and fans can keep shitting on him. I'm all in at this point.
The McAfee interview yesterday was entertaining. Campbell was on Dan Patrick today, and it was basically 15 minutes of Patrick treating him like a moron. And I kind of get it on some level, but it's so weird that media people complain about coaches talking like robots (how dare they) all the time, and then act like this when someone is actually genuine and gives real answers to stuff.
trading him over releasing him would save us an extra $1.5M if he can pull it off, which would be a somewhat big deal this year.
Would it be something like we trade him and a 6th for like a 7th? No way anyone gives up anything of value for him.
Quickest way to get the Lions fanbase to give up on new regime https://www.si.com/nfl/lions/news/detroit-lions-select-kyle-pitts-mock-draft
Schefter says we offered Golladay $18-19M a year before the season and he turned it down. Also said there's a decent chance we don't tag him before the deadline tomorrow.
Interesting. I wonder if tagging Golladay would require a Goff restructuring, which may not be palatable to the FO at this time?
My assumption if they don't tag Golladay will be that they don't think they can get anything for him in a tag a trade. If they tag him, it's going to be hard for them to add anyone in FA until his situation is resolved.
He's 27 now and will be 30 midway through the '23 season. Unless they can trade him after they tag him, what's the point.
I assume they don’t want to risk not getting anything for him in a trade. Of course we could get a comp pick for him in 2022, which makes tagging him an interesting thought. I guess it still comes down to who do you lose with that fully guaranteed salary on your books next season?
They see we're not going to be competitive in '23 with him on the roster, so use that money now and take the 3rd next year. He isn't going to bring better than a 3rd in a trade anyway.
So if we don’t tag him, we get a 3rd round pick? Seems like a no brainer. He won’t get any more than 16 or 17 million on the open market.
I agree. I love Golladay, but his window and the teams window are two ships passing in the night. Hopefully he can get paid by a contender.
I think you're underrating him as a player, and overrating how how it is to rebuild in the NFL (understandably, given how bad we've sucked at it).
Back in December it would have been crazy to think that we could let both Golladay and Okwara walk, but that seems like the most likely outcome at this point.
Not necessarily. If we let him walk and don't sign any FAs from other teams, we'll almost certainly get a pick at the end of the 3rd round next year. But any true FA we sign with the money we save there goes against us in that equation. Signing Tyrell Williams does not count against us because he was waived. So, basically, if we let Golladay and Okwara walk and then either don't sign anyone or only sign people who were waived, we'll probably get picks back for both of them. If we let them walk, but use that money to sign Matt Milano and/or Corey Davis, we might end up getting a late round comp pick or something like that, but not a 3rd rounder. In other words, if Golladay walks we aren't both signing Corey Davis and getting a 3rd round comp pick.
