Speaking of Beatles covers deserving of this thread, Wilson Pickett’s & Duane Allman’s Hey Jude is as good if not better than the original. I mean it spawned an entirely new genre of music. (southern rock) They took a great song, and made it better.
Such a good cover. The best. June on the stairs towards the end, she died like 2-3 months after filming of that, and then of course he was not far behind her.
Music is subjective, for sure, but I think this version is really really really fucking awful and I hate it.
I feel like a few people in my life told me, “wait until you hear Disturbed do the sound of silence, it’s incredible...” I love all of those people, but they universally have horrible taste in music.
If I were a musician, any genre, and the Isley Brothers covered one of my tunes, I would literally work it into every single verbal interaction in my life from that point
Just now seeing teel posting a bro country dude’s cover of The Band’s cover of the Boss and shaking with anger
Me too. That was the same quality as every dude paying behind a beer pitcher with eight ones in it at every shopping center bar below the Mason-Dixon Line. If you think that's even a decent cover, you don't know why that's a good song. Utter trash.
Like Florida-Georgia Line covering RATM covering The Ghost of Tom Joad or incorporating pigeon meat into a turducken
I've heard a number of covers of Deep Purp's Highway Star and man people need to stop trying to cover that
On a serious/cool note, Mike Portnoy saw a cover that guy did of a Dream Theater song, and is sending him a real drum set. Every once in a while, social media isn’t the absolute worst.
Absolutely not. I mean this as no disrespect to Willie but you literally cannot improve on a perfect song (much less a perfect album which Graceland is).
Cory Henry is probably the best keyboardist alive rn and he knocked both of these out the gd park Scary Pockets has a lot of really interesting covers: Another Scary Pockets cover, this time from Monica Martin. I can’t say if it’s “better” than the original, but it’s definitely cooler. You can spend hours on this page listening to covers. This one is definitely my fav:
I have listened to this version so much that the cell phone interruption feels like part of the song.
