Me too, that's why I'm hesitant. I honestly feel like it's a terrible decision but for some reason I want the big guy.
Not terrible that we can't care for him, just that shedding is going to be insane. We'll burn through a Roomba every 6 months.
Oh you have to get him. I mean I live in a 1600 Sq ft condo. I can’t imagine that being enough room for a dog of that size.
Oh yea we have the space. Good size back yard and a large covered patio if he wants to lay outside in the shade. That's just a whole lot of dog, regardless of house size. I've always loved them though and this just kinda happened.
Me: G, want to go meet this dog on Friday? *shows her video* G: Oh sure, that's Cedric. Me: No, I think we would call him Bryant. G: No, that's Cedric. *walks to her playroom* We went to the Biltmote estate and she got a stuffed animal that looked like the dog the Vanderbilt's had. His was a St Bernard named Cedric.
Beautiful dog. My parents had St Bernards when I was a kid, they are amazing companions. Can be excessively aggressive around other dogs though if not constantly around them. Even as an inside dog in the south, be prepared for a ridiculous amount of baths and grooming. Their fur can become like dreadlocks if not constantly groomed.
Copper is exceedingly patient and loving with Levi. This is typical stuff. Levi climbing over Copper while he just allows it and loves the attention. Copper is 13 though and is really starting to show his age. I am hoping that Scout warms up to Levi more as Levi ages. Scout has never been aggressive, just very indifferent. And yes, Levi ended up face up on the hardwoods and immediately set hopped up and set about the task of climbing back over.
Redbone Coonhound. He is my 3rd and I adore this breed. So loyal and fearless. Bred to face bears and cougars. Also one of the only web-footed hound breeds. I will add, all 3 of mine have been rescues. From wiki... “In the early 19th century, Scottish immigrants brought red-colored foxhounds to Georgia, which would later become the foundation stock of today's modern-day Redbone. Around 1840, Irish-bred Foxhound and Bloodhound lines were added. The Redbone name comes from an early breeder, Peter Redbone of Tennessee, though the United Kennel Club credits Redbone's contemporary, George F.L. Birdsong of Georgia, and Dr. Thomas Henry in the 19th century.[1] Over time, breeders followed a selective program that led to a coonhound that was adept at treeing wild-game, was courageous against larger animals such as bear and mountain lions, agile enough to track in the mountains or in the marsh, and could swim if necessary (one of the few hounds with webbed feet). They are ideal for pack hunting of both small and larger prey. Originally, the Redbone had a black saddleback, but by the beginning of the 20th century, it was replaced by an uninterrupted red tone.[1][2] The Redbone Coonhound was recognized by the United Kennel Club in 1902, becoming the second coonhound breed to gain recognition[3] and was recognized by the American Kennel Club in 2010”
He has 3 looks. Baying, sleeping, and curious. Here he is with Jackie before we put here down. Almost 3 years ago exactly. And exactly 1 week before we got Scout. His heartbrokenness is the reason why we immediately got another dog. Like I said, very loyal.
Been doing research the last few days. Apparently there's a short and long hair version. They both shed but the short doesn't need as much brushing. Idk what kind he is though lol. Going back to see him tomorrow and we'll bring him home if him and G get along. I can't imagine they won't bc she loves dogs.
We did a DNA test on Annie, understanding they have some questionable accuracy. She’s a street dog we adopted and is about 30lbs. The test came back 54% boxer (checks out), 14% lab, 8% Caucasian Shepherd Dog (wut), and then some dachshund/chihuahua to round it out. So most of her ancestry is big to really big dog, and all she got was the boxer face. It’s an elite face tho.
This has gone waaaaay better than expected. Max and the new dog met at the dog hotel and the new dog wanted to play a little but he's so big that I was worried he'd hurt Max. He was just pawing at his but thay paws are bigger than my hand. I thought it would be a long process to get him to chill. But once we got home, he just chilled. He was walking around exploring the house and Max was running next to him and he didn't mind at all. After about 20 minutes, he laid down and Max was licking slobber off his lips. But overall this has been awesome so far.
I don't even know. They gave him shots and all but I don't know if they weighed him. Taking him to our vet this week to get checked out and will find out then. He's definitely skinny though. Doesn't look it bc he has so much fur but under it he's underweight.
You can see how skinny he is here. He looks huge when laying down bc of the fur and the huge head but he really is skinny. Living in this house, he'll fatten up in no time.
Wally’s came back 25% GSD, 12.5% shih tzu, and the rest was a long list of dozens of breeds he could be. Pretty sure whatever else he is is mostly herding dog. My mom got the test for us as a Christmas gift, would’ve been pissed if I spent money on it to learn that.
