unless something has changed in the last 18 mo or so, tesla is not leaning from all of the cars on the road in any appreciable way

actually, it looks like they've just starting using a neural network

Not enough to justify 10K IMO. The basic autopilot it comes with is plenty good. Soon they'll have a full self driving subscription program, very interested to see what that looks like.

I really need electric work vans to come online. Want new company we start to be as environmentally conscious as possible and that would help.

ford e-transit should be the ticket next year

and I’ve always thought these should be adopted very quickly. Without the long distance road trip element, the use case is very easy to convey to small business owners plus you have some tax advantages.

Basic autopilot that comes with car will keep your lane and brake for cars in front of you. It'll also do some emergency things like steering out of the way of something. Full self driving will change lanes to go around traffic, stop at red lights, some things like that. The new beta full self driving does more things and I think they are close to having a larger release of that but it'll basically fully drive for you. Technically speaking you can put in a destination and it'll 100% take you there without you touching the wheel (wouldn't advise that as it still makes mistakes and you would want to be ready to take over).

So w/ basic auto pilot, I can put my car in the left lane on the highway and know that it will get me all the way to my exit without changing lanes, but other than that, nothing.

With the current iteration, it will change lanes and stuff to avoid slower cars, and get me off the highway?

What about the parking stuff. does that only come with the upgraded package?

Yup, that's the one. I posted it a few pages back. Looks like they are doing a whole line of Ioniq #. They are supposed to be all built on the same platform.

Yea, it'll keep your lane and slow down or brake for traffic. It'll do it on any street with lane markings but it won't stop at a red light or stop sign. If you want anything more than that then you have to go with full self driving. They do have something in the middle called enhanced autopilot that'll change lanes but they only very randomly offer it when you purchase the car or as an upgrade option.

    That 6 is sexy.

Edit: just did some googling on it and I reserve that sexy comment. That interior looks a little much, going to have to see how it actually looks when it comes out.

The vast majority of my daily commute is a single highway. Assuming there are no other real time saving benefits to the full auto pilot, I'll save my $10k.

Autopilot was a lifesaver driving the Florida Keys and back last month. Constant traffic on the single lane highway so it would just stop and go autonomously. Autonomous stuff is nice at high speeds but really it’s not too much different than just cruise control; the game changer is eliminating the monotony and risk of stop and go traffic

Just put a deposit down for the F150 lightning. I thought I could get away with not pulling a trailer for work but it's been just a little too inconvenient recently. I don't think I'll ever be able to go back to driving an ICE car so was contemplating the cybertruck, Rivian, or something similar. I'm sure the cybertruck is going to be badass but not sure if I'll ever be able to get past the look. Possibly the biggest sale for me with the F150 too is vehicle-to-grid. I actually can charge at work for "free" so I'll be able to charge at work and then run my house off my car when I'm home, basically bringing my power bill to almost zero. Plus, being in NC I lose power frequent enough from thunderstorms, ice/snow, hurricanes, etc. Also, add in the federal tax credit and it actually starts to become a financial no brainer for me. Biggest concern is the range, top level will apparently get 300 which I can make work but it's about the minimum I could go.

We ordered a Tesla Y last week. Pretty excited to get it. I posted in the Electric Vehicles thread, but I'm excited, so here's pics of what it'll look like.

Not a big fan the roundness of the Y or the Y/3 wedge grille/nose. I like the grille lines, but could go for something to make it look complete. It was a very close race for me between the Y and Mach-E, deciding factors being availability of the Mach-E vs waiting (just happened to find one) and my wife hating Elon.

Agree, but this is more a critique of the naming convention industry-wide. The MB GLE or BMW X4 also are not SUVs, for example.

All electric vehicles are so much bigger than you think from just looking at them. I went from an Audi Q7 to a model 3 the interior feels just as big. My wife is 5'8" and sits easily with my daughters car seat behind her. These trucks are going to feel absolutely gigantic with their interiors.

The rounding of all edges is quite deceptive, but I still wouldn’t describe it as “big”. By European standards, maybe. But it has to be the smallest “third row” SUV in existence.

The thing that is amazing is how much shit you can get into it between the frunk, rear under storage, and cargo area. Add in a roof rack and it’s an incredible camping vehicle.
