My first of 2 drafts. 12 team 5x5 with daily moves. This is the less competitive of my 2 leagues so I feel like I can stream and manage my rotation pretty easily. I just drafted bats that I thought had high upside.
Is yahoo not offering pay leagues this year? I only see the free public leagues or free custom leagues.
I've been harassing them about this on Twitter and they're supposedly opening them this week. But they've been dragging their feet so who knows.
In a rotisserie league and this year I finally changed dropped saves for saves + holds. Not sure if it's going to be any better, but there are like 12 actual closers any more so saves is kind of pointless now as a category to me.
Haven't played in a few years and have a draft on Thursday. It's a H2H league that's pretty much 5x5 plus OBP and Quality Starts. Any recs for rankings sites or places to research would be much appreciated.
I think I’m going to try this. All my listens revolve around this format now. Kind of sucks because from an interest stand point it seems to make discussion scrubs, studs and Faab. I prefer a more pitcher heavy format in which roster moves are agonizing. https://nfc.shgn.com/lobby/baseball Also I may have a spot for you. Debating on continuing my league that’s been going 20 years. It’s fun as hell but I’m done chasing dudes around and dealing with bullshit.
Need help deciding on my last dynasty keepers. I'm in a 7x7 league with holds and losses included on pitching side. Overall we can keep 10 and I've got Acuña, Soto, Yelich, Jose Ramirez, W. Franco, and Cole as my first 6. Can keep 4 of these - Hitters: Mondesi, Starling Marte, Cavan Biggio, Jo Adell Pitchers: Hader, Lamet, Kirby Yates, Ian Anderson,Spencer Howard
My main league is going on year 10, h2h points, keep 4: Soto, Nola, Devers, Luis Robert. Really not sure how to treat this years draft, seems like SP who eat innings are at an ultra premium and all the mid guys have question marks. For anyone that doesn’t know, this guy makes the best excel draft sheet ever: https://mrcheatsheet.com/
In my keeper I am retaining all SP. Biebs, Darvish, Giolito and then my final keeper is between Lynn or Glasnow. There are always nice bats on the wire, there are never any arms on the wire unless you roll the dice on someone fringe worthy in a pen.
SP i’ll be targeting after pick ~150 (nfbc adp) -Alcantara (150) -Montas (171) -Mahle (180) -Civale (183) -Soroka (187) -Mckenzie (189) -Stroman (190) -Urquidy (202) -Means (221) -Paxton (222) -Antone (302) might start -Gore (351) stash -Severino (387) stash
They assign dollar amounts to each player. Typically I dump all their numbers into excel and sort by Bats, SP and RP. You can play around with the categories to get some ideas how they weight the players. For example saves and stolen bases massively inflate value. Might want to toggle that on/off to get an idea.
Thanks. Appreciate the insight. Seems like the strategy may be to punt steals and saves if I miss out on the top guys.
Alright, so I can keep two players from my prior year's roster. The way we do the draft, we take the average "pre-season ranking" of each of their keeper players, and then we reverse the draft order based on who has the highest average pre-season ranking. So there is SOME incentive to have a lower average pre-season ranking of your two keepers, as it will probably give you a chance a top pick from the remaining players. I'm going with two offensive players here, and so here are my options: Spoiler I think it makes the most sense to go with Trea and Cody, obviously. My only thought was whether it would be worth going with Trea and Judge just to drop my average and get a better 1st round pick. How much difference do y'all really see between Bellinger and Judge here?
Judge is such a crap shoot with the injuries. I don't know what to do with Bellinger because he's so streaky. I didn't keep him after his SO slump a few years ago and that turned out poorly for me with his MVP season. Then he looked pretty average last year. I think I'd keep Springer over him, but I might be on an island there.
Yea, I don't doubt that Bellinger is the better pick, but I wasn't sure if it was worth maybe dropping down the draft order for it. I ran some numbers on what I expect others to do, and it's likely that Yelich or Ramirez would be the first pick of the remaining guys after keepers are taken out. After that, you're looking at Bryce, Mondesi, Rendon, Albies, or Machado as the best remaining possibilities. Springer may not be a bad direction to go in to assure myself of the top pick, but a potentially healthy Judge putting up normal production is enticing.
think you gotta go Bellinger unless you’re positive you can get ramirez/yelich. being able to get Harper might be worth it as well but you’d have to have the 1st or 2nd pick
Picking 11th out of 12. Not feeling good about getting one of the top 3 pitchers. Should I reach for Bauer or Darvish at 14 or just take best player available?
1000 percent a bat from my perspective. Don’t know your league that well but I’d rather lose and have 45 RBIs than 9 for the week. Just personal preference. Caveat to that point is nailing your mod and late round arms.
Thanks. Any thoughts on how I should approach Saves? It’s a H2H 5x5 league plus OBP and Quality Starts
Just found rates and barrels a couple weeks ago and really like it. The past few years I've listened to fantasy baseball today from cbs but it doesn't quite hold my attention like it used to. It's been a few years since I've used that one, the last couple of years I've used this one because it better fit my leagues settings He's moved to google sheets from excel which I like being able to access from a variety of devices, but some computers bog way down with all of the macros and updates.
First draft in a 3-4 years, so don’t murder me. Let me know my strengths and weaknesses so I can make moves. It’s standard H2H 5x5 with OBP and Quality Starts added. 12 teams, 15 batters, 12 pitchers, 7 bench.
You need some pitching help asap. Glasnow and Luzardo are huge IP risks, Lamet is battling elbow issues (hasn't pitched this spring yet), Soroka is coming off an achilles injury and may not be ready, and Price may not even be a starter. Some of those guys have upside but should have been paired with safer bets.
Massive rosters. SP is going to be tough to come by for you, my guess is that several member's probably have every SP. First off look at roster constructions of the teams that were in the finals the previous year. That's how you will want your roster to look and based on the number of players that were drafted, you're going to have a tough time getting there. Don't drop any pitching until they are DL for the season. From Pollock on down, almost all those bats are going to be dead space, unless you're starting a MI, OF and/or multiple Util slots. Once the season gets rolling everyone has one off day max, possibly none with make up games, so you won't get most of them in for counting stats. I'd give Posey, Canderlario and Tellez a slightly longer leash out of that grouping. I would have two extra bats on the bench once you get into May. Probably will want to chase some saves as well. Follow this. https://fantasy.fangraphs.com/category/bullpen-report/ Always keep your eye out on Probable starters, might see someone who is contributing a little bit. It's going to be really difficult though because most fringe SP don't hit that 6 inning threshold. Finally, fangraphs has an injury report as well. There will always be some decent SP that's starting the season on the shelf that no one has a timeline on. Those articles may tip you off to a decent option. Finally if you like to deal, Glasnow should be 1A for you. He has the potential to start off really hot, or get hot, but the Rays usage of SP in a league with QS really hurts you. Last year he was tied for 10th in Ks with 3 QS which put him tied for 60 something overall. Don't mess with Rays pitchers period, they fucking hate fantasy baseball.
Thanks for the detailed response. That’s really helpful. I got into the beers and had a spreadsheet from fangraphs going for picks but then got too far behind to catch up to use it for pitching. Definitely should have put more late round flyers on SPs. Also skipped on the bench bats.
What does the SP waiver wire look like in your league? Might be able to give you a few names to keep an eye on.
Based on ESPN roster % the top guys are: Spencer Howard Seth Lugo David Peterson Tanner Houck Kyle Freeland Matt Manning Logan Gilbert Antonio Senzatela Guys that have high IP projected: Jordan Lyles Logan Webb Jakob Junis Martin Perez Keegan Akin
is alex reyes available? cards are trying to get him 100 innings and he should be good for ratios and Ks i like adbert azolay as a late rounder too
Anybody have a spot to fill in a league? I wouldn't mind getting back into fantasy baseball. Covid killed my last league.
Peterson may be worth a shot. He was useful last year and he should have a safe rotation spot now with Carrasco's injury. I would find someone you like with favorable matchups early because you're likely down 2-3 SPs to start the season.
my main league is a 10 teamer with 5 keepers, no picks or anything attached. just keep five. i fucking hate it. look at these two teams acuna soto story harper arenado tatis bieber degrom j.ramirez bellinger i’ve got a strong five but jfc trout turner freeman devers albies
