Goose getting two sets at Suwannee is April. 11 foot pods for 8 people so space to jam will be nice. Hopefully this is the begging of southern shows
Raging porno-funk that slides into a very mellow midi horn laden outro. [A multi-section masterpiece of funky '97 styles highlight this strong jam. Page skillfully deploys multiple keyboards, and the jam energy ebbs and flows repeatedly.]
And for the love of god, someone pls tell me what instrument is being played at the 12:10 mark in YEM. I’ve even asked the Trey’s guitar rig guy and drewphish on Twitter and have never gotten an answer. Whatever instrument this is continues throughout the Russian/Jewish (idk) portion of the jam. I absolutely love it and I’m pretty sure I haven’t heard it again in any live phish setting
Nice. Going to go see the biscuits in April. I’ll scope out the venue for you. Would’ve loved to make it to goose, but it’s tough to justify flying across the country for only one show.
wooooo boy that Atlanta mix sounds cleaaaan. I'm gonna have to do a full headphones session tonight. I'll be up for a listening party if anybody wants to join.
Damn, that’s gonna be sweet. Crazy that they’re selling out that quickly. They’re going to come back playing venues twice as big as they used to because of what they’ve done during the pandy
Yeah. I mean pod style shows is less tickets so I get they sell out quickly, but the growth over pandemic has been big. Just two years ago they were playing bars. They have done a phenomenal job spreading their music. Think Peter is a big part of that. He’s very technically gifted and seems smart with video production, etc.
Yes, I'm a nerd and I took notes during my listen. Trey means what he says right off the bat. 2:30 Trey counts it off and they nail it in time. That became quite rare, lol 3:12-3:45 Interplay from Page/Trey/Mike at the jumpoff is money. 4:20 – Let ‘em feel it Page. Aggressive sauce. Laying it on thick. 5:05-5:08 – audible “yeah!”s from band members throughout. Nice to hear that come through on this mix. 5:18 – fuckin ‘a Page 6:50 – Trey steps into it. Grimy 7:58 – more “yeah!”s from Trey 8:17 – Shit has officially begun. 9:06 – 9:42 – Trey begins to establish first theme. 10:26 – yeah, let’s go ahead and call this “Theme #1” 11:16 – now we’re just gonna grind it out a bit as we ease out of that effortlessly. 11:50 – let it get a little loose. Shades of future Fall ’97 tour Trey 12:02 – take it up to the funk plateau and let it spin 12:12 – Fish brings some cowbell and Trey digs it 12:35 – Trey switches into the James Bown funk review and lets Page have some more 13:00 – Mike has literally been crushing everything in his path this entire time…. 13:40 – Page. Dirty. 14:08 – Trey taking it a little off-key and left of center 14:28 – Mike takes over 14:50 – full band work here is unbelievable. 15:53 – im talking everybody, locked the fuck in. 16:30-16:35 – Fish creates the build up to a nice mini-release 16:50 – Trey just living in this rhythm. This is that easy funk. 17:11 – yeah, scratch it out 17:20 – there it is I’d call pretty much everything from 12:35-17:20 “Theme #2” or electric funk boogie 17:35 – now were are getting serious about things 17:45 – MIKE MIKE MIKE 18:37 – I agree. 18:50 – jiz. everywhere. The Roughly 5 min. space from 12:35-17:20, give or take a few measures, really just laid a nasty interwoven funk base that keeps building layers and layers until it is just completely unleashed at 17:35ish. 19:10 – Page giving it hell, Trey – dirty dirty dirty 19:30-19:35 – My god Mike. 19:46 – ride it out 20:12 – now lets just get Phishy, because wtf 21:10 – yeah Mike. Milk that descending bass line Yeah, that definitely re-occurs in later Fall ‘97 Theme #3 Love penny-whistle Trey Just a magnificent, fully fleshed out, outro jam. That’s how you fucking do it. 26:00 – intergalactic mind-melt ending So in recap: Early style Ghost intro’s are not my favorite Ghost intro’s, but this one is about as perfect as it gets. Whole song portion is on point. You can tell they are jacked to be playing this for only the 2nd time to a US crowd. Tight tight tight. Everybody is involved early and often. Page is not shy about the Moog and letting everybody know he’s here to party. Doesn’t take much time at all for them to find a solid funk base. Then Trey latches on to the early defined “Theme #1”. This exits into a roughly 5 min top tier ’97 phish funk groove (“Theme #2”) that builds until it releases into a 2 min Trey/Mike led shred-fest. No big peaks here, but just crushed all the way through. Energy through the roof. Can’t say enough about Fish pushing the pace and his syncopation and choices throughout. Jam calms down perfectly into an outstanding outro jam. Nothing forced or out of place. This is exactly what was supposed to happen here. Just a beautiful final 6 min for Theme #3. You can hear a lot of things happening here early in the summer that would truly come to a head later that Fall. Yeah. It’s pretty much perfect.
Not that familiar with William Strings, but a buddy just sent me this. P sick Back on the Train (10:19) • Billy Strings • 2020-09-13 • Mohegan Sun Arena Parking Lot, Wilkes Barre, PA https://relisten.net/billy-strings/2020/09/13/back-on-the-train?source=241489
1/17/20 and 1/18/20 Capitol Theatre shows. They were really on fire late 2019 and early 2020 before the pandemic hit. Touring the Home album (which just won a Grammy).
My dude PrinceWimbley has been putting me on the heat since ‘03. My guy was preaching Billy Strings two years ago.
That whole 2nd set from 1/18 is awesome. Wharf Rat, Ernest T Grass, Away from the Mire. Turmoil and Tinfoil.
playing in mobile 3 nights in row, but I’ll be in spring break with kids. Sucks. Not much good music coming to the coast so hate I can’t go
