Put down PE today, pretty confident I am a week or two late in putting it down. Was reading to reapply in 6-8 weeks. Anyone else doing that?
I spent over $100 on post emergent because Texas, it hasn't arrived yet That said, I put out PE last weekend to try and catch any more, and will be putting it out again in a couple months
Not really a lawn question but anyone install steel edging? Debating between 4 inch and 6 inch height. I typically keep my lawn 3 inches in height so was leaning towards 4 as 6 seems way too high.
I'm very happy with my Big Dog Alpha MP Make sure whatever you get has a fabricated deck I looked only at brands that had local shops nearby in case I need their help Find out what options are near you, then research the shit out of em. After test driving the deere, I can say they are definitely over priced for what you get
Ok so reading up is says fabricated are stronger and important if you hit trees and shit which I definitely will do. Thanks
Durability mostly Stamped decks are always thin metal, have to be to be able to be stamped. John deere will try and tell you it's more aerodynamic or some bullshit You'll notice no commercial level mowers have stamped decks
If you want to get more accurate you'll want to put it down when soil temps get to around 70 degrees. I'm in Raleigh, NC and that happens around the middle of May typically. This is a good site to use if you want to get an idea for your area: https://www.greencastonline.com/tools/soil-temperature Also, if anyone is using prodiamine as the active ingredient for your PE then there is a yearly maximum on the product. I typically do 2 apps in the spring and 1 in the fall so I just divide the yearly allowance by 3.
Last night, as the last bit of daylight was fading away, I was in my shed furiously googling whether dimension and pendimethalin and 24d can be applied together - so I could finish my p-e application. I found 2-3 hits on domyown reviews/questions and it seems Im in the clear.
https://www.homedepot.com/p/Cub-Cad...6KnhFPBFU6yR2cA62NYaAuKaEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds I got a great deal on that one a couple years ago. It's been great. Super easy to load on my trailer and mow an elderly family friend's yard
Awesome. This is right in the range I'm looking at and my local home depot has it. May go by there and look at it. Thanks
I bought mine from Home Depot for about 2/3rds that price just FYI. And I was told by a friend I trust to make sure and get the Kawasaki motor. I think they make one with a different engine
Have you ever changed the oil in this? I was looking at this one and an Aries Lowe's has and they say it's a pain in the ass to change the oil on the Ariens. Just didn't know if it was easy to do on the CC.
I’ll be finding out in a few weeks. I did change blades to install the mulching kit which was kind of a pain in the ass and installed armrests which was easy peasy.
Mine (same engine, not ariens) came with a tube you got to put on this little fitting to drain the oil Without the tube the oil drains all onto the frame and stuff Not to hard to change
Yeah I saw a dude do it on YouTube and looks like the same engine in the CC so I was wondering. This guy on YouTube didn't have as much trouble with the drain plug because he used the tube as he had with the filter getting shit everywhere
https://www.earthway.com/shop/2050p-estate-residential-broadcast-spreader/ Ended up getting this spreader, local store had it for 119.99 but gave a 15 dollar credit for trading in my old Scott’s one.
I just changed the oil in mine and had an idea There is a little metal piece that is under the filter thats kinda like a spout that directs the oil from the filter hole out away from the engine Before removing the filter, I slid one of those disposable food tray thingys under it, like one if these Slid in and out from behind the wheel under the fender When I pulled the filter, I tilted it up to keep it from spilling as much as I could The boat caught everything, didn't drip any extra oil on the frame at all I should make a YouTube video
Put the PE down yesterday, have had constant rain since. Think we’re at about 1.60 inches with no end to it coming until tomorrow. Hasn’t been an extreme down pour really, so hopefully the PE soaked into the ground to at least work for 6-7 weeks. Had to laugh, I rushed to get this down before the rain, now the forecast has 4 days of rain in the next week.
Alright friends, fired my lawn company today, going to start doing this myself. Going to buy a push mower but need some help. My lot is .6 acres total, I like the idea of electric but I think my yard my be too big for that, any input? also need to fertilize/weed kill my yard. I have access to a spreader is there something I should use for that?
I do not have a huge yard (takes me about 40 minutes, battery lasts the entire time) but I love the EGO electric mower. I have used it for about 3 years now and will never go back to gas. https://www.lowes.com/pd/EGO-POWER-...th-7-5Ah-Battery-and-Rapid-Charger/1003130698
I have a Toro Timemaster, and that thing is a beast. Old 21" cut worked great for my old house but took forever to mow the lawn at my new house so upgraded last year. No complaints so far, doesn't get bogged down like my old mower did. Took about hour and a half to mow with old one, now I'm done in 30-45 minutes for an idea on time savings between the two.
Thanks for the rec, based on other reviews that are similar to yours I’m going to pick this up tomorrow at Lowe’s. Do you use any of the other ego tools like the edger, trimmer, or blower?
I own a snow blower, hedge trimmer, and leaf blower. Haven’t used the leaf blower yet but the trimmer and snowblower have been great. I’ve used the hedge trimmers and snow blower a lot. They have both been great.
I haven’t used all the tools but I believe all the batteries are interchangeable. I haven’t had any issues.
Ended up with the mower you linked and picked up the blower and weed eater combo with a battery for $279 also.
Let me know what you think of the weed eater. I have a different brand one but going to retire that eventually.
I put down a corn gluten pre-emergent earlier this week for my OH yard. The hippie at the local nursery recommended it. About two hours later there were 18 deer in my yard licking the ground.
Just did my first mow, my lot is 2/3 an acre. I don’t use the self propel feature much, I still had half my battery left when I finished, really positive first experience, haven’t used the weed eater or blower yet.
That stuff is legit, took care of my grass burr problem on my side lot, I put it out every year You gotta water it in The deer start following me around my yard when I'm spreading it
Anyone have a bagged mulch they really like? I've got the Scott's stuff before from HD and it is awful. Had some type of mold growing on it or turning whiteish on it in no time.
HD has their place for homeowners, but I find my local HDs have very poor watering practices and generally disorganized in all aspects flowers/vegetables/trees. Wouldn't surprise me to hear about mold growing on something in lawn/garden. This is not really a problem unique to HD, but rather all big box retail.
What do yall use for poa on bermuda? I had a good amount germinate during the winter that I'm trying to kill. I've been hitting the PE early so feel confident I won't get anything new but still need to kill the existing. I hit it with image about 3 weeks ago (I know it takes 3-5 weeks to work) and seeing some mixed results so far there but so slow... Thinking about hitting it with some dimension this weekend.
also idk if this has been posted or what his rep is but I've really enjoyed this guy's videos/site. His bermuda calendar is awesome. He is just outside athens ga so almost exact temps and dates for me. https://www.bermudalawnguide.com/bermudacalendar2021.pdf
Big fan of domyown.com for learning about this kinda thing Looks like you're on the right track with the dimension https://www.domyown.com/how-to-kill...qbCIdOh4yriAouUgy7d1RViH1ApOQ5ZRoCvS4QAvD_BwE
I planted some blue grass the last two falls in a couple areas of my yard that I torched and started from scratch. Both years I overseeded but I think there was some Poa in there or something because it started popping up as soon as the snow melted. Hoping the area I planted last year actually looks OK when it grows in, it’s super green but hasn’t grown much since it’s still been in the 40-50s consistently.
Anyone have experience with Atrazine on crabgrass? I think it takes 2-4 weeks to work. I put down the PE about two weeks ago and hopefully it wasn’t too late.
I’m actually surprised to see some weeds coming up in the back of my yard by my lilies considering it’s been in the 40-50s. Id assume this area got a lot of sun and warmed up when the snow was on the rest of the yard but still sucks to see considering I haven’t even been able to mow yet and I didn’t see them here last year.
Grass has greened up a bunch the last couple of weeks, high is only 57 tomorrow and cloudy but if the ground dries up enough after the rain Monday/Tuesday I might have to get out there and mow. Probably a little early but my grass was longer than normal by the time it got really cold/snowy this winter plus it’s something to do.
Anyone in here run a lawn service business on the side? Thinking about doing something like that just for some extra side cash for stupid shit. I have a 44" toro walk behind, just need a trailer.
