The Superman vs JL fight was much better here. It retained the great "Superman follows Flash with his eyes" gag but ditches the one liners. The only gag Whedon did that I missed was when Aquaman sat on the lasso and started pouring his heart out. That was a good moment. Also Flash saving a truckload and looking over to see Superman carrying a whole apartment complex to safety. Those two were good moments but the whole of it is stupidly inferior to this
Agree on both of these being good from the original. Also missed “But does the world need you” line. Otherwise missed nothing from the original.
Spoiler so flash traveled back in time to undo the unity? i was pretty baked when i watched it but is that the jist of what happened? he can just travel back in time and undo shit nbd?
Whedon definitely comes off as a scumbag when the whole Diana meets Barry scene at the airport was centered completely on her ass, and in the Snydercut the focus was on Bruce and Barry.
Whedon put that dumbass scene where Barry falls on her and it's awkward as hell. Supposedly Gal wouldn't do the scene and they used her stunt double and put her face on her.
Spoiler Barry mentioned something about he can go faster than the speed of light and shit happens but he never wanted to do it for safety reasons. End of the world was happening so he broke his rule. I can't remember exactly but I think he knew he could do something like going back in time but knew there might be consequences. I need to rewatch it.
Spoiler yeah once the epilogue happened i was immediately thinking all the shit in the knightmare or whatever it's called was the "alternate timeline" that was created from barry fucking around and going back in time. in hindsight now, i'm pretty sure i saw all the skin melt off of cyborg/batman/etc when he reversed time so i'm dumb
Spoiler The Knightmare timeline is still in play. That doesn't have anything to do with Barry fucking up the timeline. The mother boxes unified and killed everyone so yes you saw Barry reversing time and the melted JL forming back together.
Enjoyed it, that’s all. Backstory work was the key. I was excited to see Leto’s Joker ... just didn’t do much for me. That laugh is no bueno.
Loved most everything about the movie, except for the very unrealistic fact that the Badgers score 35 on the road.
Yes and good for him. He looked terrible during Whedon's reshoots. Losing weight and being off roids is why he didn't looked jacked up like in 2016.
If you haven't seen Man of Steel and BvS, you've missed the two you need to see. WW84 and Aquaman are sequels to this movie
You should be fine. It ain’t difficult to catch up. Superman is a killer. Jesse Eisenberg is Lex Luthor but plays him like he’s Jim Carrey’s Riddler? Wonder Woman is a thing Batman and Supes fight Martha Doomsday dies and so does Superman. Boom. You’re all good.
But Martha is my mother’s name. But, I thought I was the only one. A pain I know all too well. So, this is what it feels like...when doves cry!!
The whole Martha thing isn't even on the top ten list of things wrong with BvS. The idea "Bruce would see Superman as a supervillain waiting to happen, while Superman would see Batman as a terrible vigilante who needs to be stopped" is a solid and sound foundation for a fight, one which has been used in various ways in comics. Add in the fact that Lex was killing criminals and branding them with the Bat logo, to make Superman think Batman is a killer, only adds to the fuel for their fight. The idea that Batman would change because he came to see Clark as a human being, triggering his guilt and rule against killing people, also makes sense. Humanizing Clark to Bruce by revealing that he has a mother, also makes sense. Before that, Superman is just a nigh unstoppable alien. Now he's a person with a mother just like he had before she was brutally murdered. All of that is good, simple writing. Where the movie dropped the ball was in trying to force a fight by kidnapping Martha and having Lex try to extort Superman into fighting Batman. And then lucky for Lex, Superman didn't get the chance to explain things before Batman started fighting, etc. In short, the first 2/3 of the story works. It just falls apart after that.
Doomsday, should and always be a Justice League level villain to deal with too. Could’ve used that as a catalyst the film the Reign of Superman on its own, leading into Darkseid
watched the snyder cut last night and today. some thoughts: - i barely remember the original and remember it being dumb so this was better. this movie benefited from having more time to tell the stories and with the audience having more time with the characters, though. i'm guessing i would've found the scenes with the water people really horrible if i hadn't already seen aquaman, for example. - i was bored for a lot of the movie, both because the villains are still pretty dumb (esp. the demon things) and from the length. i found myself checking my phone or twitter or something during every slowmotion sequence. - everything with the robot guy was cool. i can't believe they cut those parts - maybe the best parts - out of the original movie. - i suppose this was understood in the earlier films but i had never really put together that superman is so much stronger than even other justice league heroes. it's really driven home when the other heroes' plans are "let's get superman to save us". i struggled through the lois/superman scenes precisely because superman was so vital to the action plot so i just wanted them to hurry up and finish that story. - i don't understand the joker dream scene and other dreams at all. the motherboxes caused the robot guy to have those visions? or superman's ship did? and batman is just dreaming it? - the martian guy scenes were both entirely inorganic.
I really liked it. And I thought Batman V Superman and the original version were not good. I find Superman boring, but Henry Cavill does a fine enough job, I just am not interested in Superman's story. There is obviously a balance issue with the DC universe making movies as Superman is an unstoppable god and then Batman who is the world's most capable man, but obviously not a god if they have to fight other god like beings.
This was all shot before Aquaman. Did she have an accent in the original cut of JL or did she even show up in that one? Did my best to forget it.
I liked it but for some reason can’t stop thinking of the ridiculous sound effect when Superman flies off with Lois.
It was much better than most of the justice league stuff. Cyborg & Flash backstories were pretty solid and its nice to be able to fully grasp their place in the universe. I’m never a huge fan of a ton of CGI but Steppenwolf just looks badass. Jared Leto is straight trash as the Joker. He makes me want to throw shit at my tv. I know the Joker is over the top, but he somehow takes him over the top while being completely boring. There are several ways to play the Joker we have seen over the years and many of them work for completely unrelated reasons. Leto’s is easily the worst.
Agreed on Leto. He's a solid actor but I absolutely hate is take on the Joker. I hope this is the last time we see him as the character.
I liked Leto Joker. It was the end of the world. Things have changed. He wasn’t completely over the top. He knows Bats is Bruce. I’d love to see how they got to this point.
Have like 2 hrs left. Man Snyder likes moody music. It’s better and there have been some cool scenes, but it feels like it’s moving pretty slow to me
Quick question and sorry if dumb. Is the new Justice League movie that’s on HBO Max just a longer version of the 2017 film or is it a completely different movie?
