haven't paid much attention to this but I could've sworn people on ic were talking about Day'Ron getting borderline 1st round mocks, just took a peak at nbadraft.net and he's not even in their top 60 I hadn't been sold on him being oad but he'd still been the one question mark in my mind when it comes to the freshmen
I know we aren't making a run this year, but going out for the third tourney in a row in a game where we play like ass would be hard to swallow
Oh I completely understand it, you could instantly see the difference between tonight and last week's showings in terms of sharpness and anticipatory effort I'm just saying this new trend is tough to take
btw I can't emphasize enough our inability to see man and ball is annually awful and it will never not blow my mind
lebron james could commit to us next year and roy would still start this fucking bum leaky over him i am so ready for the wes miller era
our defensive rotation just left Andrew in the position of needing to guard two posts at the same time
even during the down years before that 4 year resurgence we could count on March UNC showing up three tourneys in a row now...just no
I mean from start to finish there wasn't a single point in the game where it felt like we were in it, even when it was close in the first I remember being shocked we weren't down by more
geez, everybody on the team's either graduating, transferring, or going pro, apparently edit: just read Sherrell's scoop, that's...ominous
Absolutely pathetic. Love and appreciate what Roy has done, but past few years have been abysmal. Roy might have one last run in him if everyone stays and we actually have better guard play/shooting which is a big if. Would like Wes if keeping it in Carolina family or Beard at Texas Tech, Young at Virginia Tech or possibly Nate Oats at Bama.
caleb's dad tweeted some cryptic shit out about being open to change or whatever which is lame af because roy gave his bumass son a ton of rope and freedom when he didnt remotely earn it.
here's the pertinent stuff Spoiler Rumors of player movement aren’t new. Since Inside Carolina’s current iteration was formed 20 years ago, we’ve tracked hundreds of tips about potential transfers and NBA defections. As the offseason begins, we have a good idea – sourced via folks close to the UNC program and close to the individual players – about who is returning, who is testing the NBA draft process, and who might be looking for a fresh start elsewhere. Typically, there aren’t any real surprises, the talk is just that – talk – and fans and followers of the program never hear about it. This year is an exception in every facet of life, and the future of the UNC basketball program is no different. We can corroborate, via sources close to UNC and to individual players, that multiple players are mulling their futures from a variety of angles, including entering the NBA Draft with no intention to return, “testing the waters” through the NBA Draft process with the possibility of returning, and transferring to other schools. What’s so different from the rumors of the past and the whispers of this season is the atypical environment in which the 2020-21 team lived through. It arrived on campus weeks later than most teams. It missed scheduled practices. It had multiple health and safety pauses. It didn’t have summer pickup games against pros. It didn’t start fall practice on time. It didn’t start the regular season on time. It didn’t experience a full house welcoming the start of the season during Late Night with Roy. It didn’t have an exhibition game and a secret scrimmage. It never got to be the big men on campus. It didn’t get to interact, with any regularity, with the student body. It didn’t attend a single class in person. It didn’t hear UNC’s band play the fight song, live, a single time during the year. It never ran out of the tunnel to a full arena. It didn’t get to go to Maui. It didn’t get to be hated during games at PNC Arena and Cameron Indoor Stadium. It didn’t get a packed, Carolina-partisan crowd during the ACC tournament. In short, this UNC team didn’t experience any of the things that anchored past players to Chapel Hill, even if those former players were unhappy with things on the court. Add in the one-time transfer exemption, and players’ ability to move on has never been easier. UNC Outlook What we’re not reporting, however, is that final decisions have been made. On the contrary, our sources indicate that, because of what we outlined above, intentions have been vacillating. A source close to the UNC program told Inside Carolina it’s nearly impossible for the Tar Heels to recruit additional prospects (beyond its two signees) for the 2021-22 season without knowing what positions they need to address and how many scholarships they'll have available. As such, the UNC staff had not inquired about any players in the transfer portal prior to Friday night’s loss to Wisconsin. That trend will likely continue until some clarity begins to emerge around UNC’s roster. With the status of a handful of players up in the air, the distance between possibilities for next year’s roster construction is vast. As with anything, it’s likely the end result is somewhere in the middle. But the players and staff just don’t know yet. The discussions and meetings were all tabled until the end of the season. Freshman forward Day’Ron Sharpe is currently the only UNC player on NBA Draft boards. According to multiple sources in both college basketball and near the NBA, teams started doing background on the Greenville, N.C. native months ago. Because of recent changes to the pre-draft process, players can hire representation (agents) and still maintain their eligibility. It’d be a big surprise if Sharpe didn’t go through the pre-draft process. As of today he slots, per multiple sources, as a mid-to-late first round pick. Other players are likely to go through the pre-draft process as well. It’s a chance to be evaluated by NBA personnel, and has proven invaluable to former UNC players (such as Justin Jackson). As to why some UNC players have contemplated moving on, multiple sources that spoke to Inside Carolina cited the following reasons: · Lack of opportunity (playing time) · Positive practice and scrimmage performance not resulting in more game minutes · System fit · Player development Roy Williams and his staff usually gather information from their sources within the NBA and report back to players and their families at some point after the season's conclusion. The timing on the meetings varies with each season, though. Recall that Nassir Little and Coby White announced decisions within 72 hours of UNC's NCAA tournament loss to Auburn in 2019. Other players, like Tony Bradley, went through the entire process before making a declaration. Due to the circumstances around the NBA process, it's unclear when that feedback will be available and when those meetings will occur. Despite many teams still alive in the postseason and countless players nationwide unsure about their future, there are already more players in the NCAA Transfer Portal than ever before. That number is expected to continue to soar. Players are essentially being recruited from one college to another, with promises of better opportunities and the allure of greener grass. These are unprecedented times and the intel is clear that UNC is not immune to them. There is no set timeline of what comes next, but the offseason has arrived and the uncertainty is palpable.
with the amount of playing time that was heading his way next year...just an awful sign of things behind the scenes
my guess is armando and day'ron declare at some point this week and caleb transfers pretty bleak outlook for the program right now
we finally land ourselves a unicorn and the end result is just another massive point for the narrative that Roy underutilizes his freshmen
It's pretty wild how just a few months ago I was staunchly arguing against the "Roy's lost it" critics with the ammo of how talented this incoming class was and in the end it may be this class that proves to be his downfall
wild that this class + first duke season sweep in god know's how long is the year where things really seem to go downhill
In all actuality though, would we have any better options? At this point we pretty much need him to and just hope he regains his Jr year form. assuming Mando and Day'Ron are gone of course
Think Jr year was an anomaly, I hope I am wrong. There aren't any good options unfortunately and that is on Roy.
