Buddy sent me this morning saying it was his friend's card. Not sure if his friend is the one selling it (hopefully) or if he just owns a copy. Also, lol at $100.00 shipping fee, what a bunch of bullshit.
PWCC is a known detriment to the hobby so hopefully your buddy isn't friends with him. It is most likely being consigned though. $100 shipping is actually less than what it will cost to ship Registered with Insurance.
As a kid, we were family friends with Jay Bell (SS for the Pirates and D-Backs -- he's from the same, shitty part of FL that I am), and one year my father and I went down to spring training. After one Pirates game, we got to go in the clubhouse and hang out or whatever, and Jay was like "Now, Gin Buckets, you can ask for literally anyone's autograph in here.... Except Barry, he's a jerk." At the time, I didn't care, and the primo autograph I got was Andy Van Slyke. Now, as an old man, I just looked up how much a Barry Bonds autographed baseball goes for and it's like $500. It's like "damn, what an awesome experience" but it's also like "FML" all at the same time.
Found some of my old cards that had water damage from the basement flooding and it was extremely painful. Found some ruined high dollar Kobe’s among other things. Found a chrome destiny refractor worth around 3.5-4 k ruined.
Wife is going to be mad when she sees my PayPal balance this month, but I've been snagging gradeable herbert prizm and optic at great deals when I can from marketplace or ebay. Gone a little overboard. But it'll pay off in end I think because I'm going to send an order of a lot of them and probably flip 9s which should pay off most of what I'm spending and hope for a couple 10s to save for potential long term value. Some ebay tricks I've learned is to look at the store of the seller, if they sell graded cards, don't bid because they've already deemed it not gradeable most likely. Also found some steals in lots especially ones titled like "Justin Herbert lot" because people searching specific cards won't see them. I just got a lot of a Prizm and 2 optic that all 3 look great for $305. The prizm itself sells $170-200 by itself now and the optics $75-100 each. And like I posted earlier found some steals on marketplace of people looking for quick money and maybe not knowing what they have.
Yea looking at baseball card prices now v what they were a few weeks ago even, I'm banking on grading now and flipping when season starts back up.
I've been going through and picking up stuff for PC/flip potential down the road for football. Might have to return a few Watson cards now though...
Although some the Herbert rookies are in that weird space now with new psa pricing that I may send some to hga for grading instead. Because a prizm base herbert for example is a $150-200 card. PSA 10 sell for $1000ish so you'd probably have to pay the now $100 level at psa. But 9s sell for only about $250. So unless you have a 10, it's worth more raw than a 9 when you factor in new cost of grading. A HGA Herbert 9.5 sold for $585, so that card is kind of in the range maybe it's better to send to HGA. I'll have to keep an eye on some more HGA prices
This is good information for anyone looking to play the raw/grade/flip game. Another good tip is to vet your sellers feedback. If they have a large amount of feedback and are selling a card raw you can probably assume it isn't worth grading. Big sellers like Probstein, PWCC, ljscardshop, tntnorthnj, fielder4mvp, pc_sportscards are just a few that come to mind where I've had to return a card because they didn't disclose the fact that they put it in their bicycle spokes. Seeing that you won't buy from people who predominantly sell slabbed cards it appears you'll never buy from me on eBay
I hate when players get a late start. Last night I went through 5,000+ 1988 commons to pull out the Glavin rookies.
I’ve been scooping up Chipper Jones rookies for dirt cheap, gotta imagine his stuff will increase sometime. Any other players you guys have been snatching up hoping his prices will increase.
Some of these mid to late 90's cards are awful. Name too small, cursive writing, I basically have to recognize their photo to know whose card it is.
After looking through my old football cards I have about 150 cards that are rookies, HOF'ers, or noteworthy. Looking forward to visiting with my, hopefully, new friend at the LCS.
Unfortunately most of their rookies are in junk era so probably not worth much unless in excellent condition
Bowman 1st edition packs up on topps.com if you're into that kinda thing. Pretty sure checklist for Bowman is ass this year
Dang, both prizm have issues not visible in listing. One base optic has a silver dot on border. But good news is the green optic and one base optic look flawless
That one has a lot of little white dots on it. I think they would whipe off as I think its fuzz stuck to it but worried about scratching that surface trying to clean it. So undecided at this time
Use an eyeglass cleaning cloth and you won't scratch the surface. I wipe down every card that I get that way. When it comes to older chrome cards I sometimes have to use Windex (on non-autographed cards) because they develop a film after sitting in the soft sleeve for years.
Anyone in this thread bought or looking into the NFT card world? Seeing outrageous shit going on right now. Trying to continue to learn more about it but still just scratching the surface as far as understanding the applications of this. I know some companies did digital cards but maybe this is the more longer term move to digital cards.
Speaking of blockchain, am old co-worker is working on a startup that would let athletes sell memorabilia and with each transaction further down the blockchain the athlete would still receive a percentage of royalties when it's resold. I get that people can track transaction history with it, but how would they require someone to pay some extra percentage in perpetuity with each resale like that?
From my understanding it’s a built in % of the transaction. If I sell a moment on Top Shot right now for $11, there’s a 5% fee iirc that includes that, and I only get $10.45
Really? You'd think with those indestructible corners they'd have an advantage. Surface scuffing must be the issue.
Once it leaves their hands how are they going to control/track who it's going to and collect money after the fact?
joined a No-Huddle Prizm Football break on ebay, got the packers for $40 and hit this (not mine specifically, phone is being shitty and not taking good pix)
