Campbell said he wants guys that separate and catch the ball. Jones and Golladay are not those kind of players. I have to think Waddle is right near the top of our board.
We also have three potential minority HC candidates in Lynn, Glenn and Staley. Any of them get a HC job next year and it's a 3rd round comp pick in 22 and 23. Kind of hoping that doesn't happen if they prove to be any good for continuity sake, but it could happen.
So teams were offering him 1 year deals for $11M and he signed for 4 years and $72M? Glad he held firm. I think I suggested giving him $42M guaranteed and that's about what he got.
This will probably change before the draft, but I've reached the pre-draft stage where I want us to take Pitts at 7. And only part of it is because I want to watch the world burn in here after we take another TE in the top 10.
I wouldn’t be upset about taking Pitts. Not my top choice, but his talent warrants a top 10 selection.
Haven't we learned our lesson from taking TE in top 10 and taking Gator players in the top 2 rounds as a city in general (Davis, Tabor, Faedo, Crawford)?
Pitts recently had an unofficial 4.46 40. I think he’s closer to 4.6 but for context, Golladay was a 4.5 at 6’4, 218. Pitts is 6’6”, 240. He’s not a TE at that speed.
As weird as it is because of the size difference, Pitts and Waddle kind of play the same spot in a lot of ways. Waddle gives you more underneath/after the catch stuff we're missing. Pitts gives you more match-up/formation flexibility where you can kind of put defenses in a bind in terms of personnel. I just trust the big guy to stay healthier than I do the small guy, which is why I'd go with Pitts.
Dont we already have a mismatch at TE that is showing some upside? You're off your rocker right now. I've never even heard of our WRs we just signed. Give me Waddle all day every day.
Darren Waller is listed as a TE but 86% of his snaps this season were running routes. He finished with 107 catches for 1196 yards and 9 TD. He’s really just a insanely large slot receiver. That’s what Pitts projects to be. Don’t let the TE designation fool you.
I still prefer Waddle to Pitts, but if Pitts game speed via GPS correlates to a 4.5 forty, that is pretty insane and warrants consideration at 7.
And Waddle over whoever else we are going to throw out there is an even greater difference. Three TEs drafted in the Top10 in eight years. Teams dont even do that with QBs.
No. I’ve been saying QB or trade down since last year. Sewell would also be great but I’ve been assuming he’d be off the board. My point wrt Pitts is he seems to be a true top 10 talent. So I wouldn’t flip out the way I did when we took Ebron and Hockenson. Wouldn’t be a fan of the pick, though.
