It's that but also more often they can have chipping at the edges of the foil/patterns printed on them. You have to blow up pictures on eBay to see the quality of them.
I have some interesting early 90s basketball cards. I just looked up grading process...holy shit what a fucking pain.
***NOT A SPORTS CARD*** Had a guy message me on ebay today asking for a refund on a $465 card, because he disagreed with the BGS 9.5 grade. WTF?
Had a guy return a Orange Disco Herbie because he said it was damaged took a picture of a damaged one and sent mine back and nothing was wrong with it. eBay needs to really look into some of these returns and adjust their prices policy.
Dumbass was probably hoping to resubmit to psa for a 10 and decided it probably wouldn't. His fault, it's pretty hard to bitch about condition of a graded card
I had a guy buy a card from me in a country I didn't ship to, asked me if I'd ship to him anyway, I said sure ask for an invoice and I'll charge you whatever shipping will be. He couldn't figure out how to request invoice and daily asked me to ship the card and he is ready to pay. After 3 days of telling him to ask for an invoice, he left me a negative feedback saying I wouldn't let him pay for his item..... Luckily I challenged the feedback and it was corrected, but I was trying to do this asshole a favor and temporarily got a negative feedback for it... Also got a neutral feedback for an item I shipped same day with tracking because item took too long....got blamed for the mail taking a while
Ebay has said I'm under no obligation to issue the refund, really don't want the negative feed back though, but also want to tell this guy to pound sand. ETA: Declined the return, we'll see how this plays out.
So I strolled into Target this morning and noticed the line, I was able to snag an Optic Football blaster box and a couple of Donruss basketball. I am really new to this, what should I do, hold onto the blaster or open it?
You can likely flip the blaster of Optic for at least 3x your cost. Not sure what the secondary market is for Donruss. Personally I’d open them as I haven’t found cards in weeks.
How did they hand products out? Was it limited per person? I just noticed a sign at my target this week that said they hand out cards Friday’s at 8 which will be tough to make.
Yep, I went there for random stuff and noticed the line outside, opened at 8am and then a other line formed inside. They rolled a cart out with Pokémon and sports cards and limited it to one type of product per person. Optic didn’t sell out so one dude was able to buy the rest like 6 boxes
If you happen to run into this situation again, please let me know and I’d happily pay retail + for some.
im going back next Friday, and will try to stick around to the end to see if i can snag extra boxes. They had a bunch of Pokemon stuff too, is that worth anything?
i have about ten of the optic football packs. can't decide if i want to open them or sell them. I've had them for almost a month.
You have every right to decline the return. People like this should be banned from ebay. Like you said he probably buys 9.5s, looks to cross them over, and returns what he thinks won't cross. So many terrible, greedy people are now associated with this hobby. After 9700 feedback, I finally got my first neutral/negative because I listed a card as "NM/MT - don't think it will be a 10" and the guy said it had a printing scratch on the back. He never tried to return it or ask for a partial refund. I reached out to him to try and find a fair resolution and he refused to respond. Sucks, but all I could do was respond to his neutral feedback and say I tried to reach out and make it right. Some people are just unreasonable.
There is something really weird going on with Torkelson base bowman auto. Way less of them have hit eBay than a lot of the color ones, psa has graded less of them than basically every color, even gold and black. They also have shot up insane in value since release date which is the opposite of normal. Within days of release it was going around $300, then snuck up to $400. The last one on ebay just sold for $700...
That makes it seem like he didn't sign and return a lot of the base ones and someone let that info out.
I thought about buying a box of plate and patches today at my LCS, but instead paid like $100 more to get an /50 rpa of Herbert off eBay. Most expensive single card I've bought and have some buyers remorse. But it could be a monster card if he keeps developing. Probably can even flip when season starts for a profit. Figured I'd rather have it than my prizm, 2 base optic, purple optic that all won't grade well. Can flip those 4 to cover close to the cost.
Top left corner looks to be a little soft, in other pictures you can tell marks on left edge just light reflection. But thick cards are never flawless so for the price I thought it was worth a shot. Prizm and optic autos way out of my price range. Figured this was a better option than paying a few hundred for a box that likely would bring back crap
Looks pretty good. Like you said, hard for thick cards to be flawless but plates and patches seems to be a product that has had a lot of issues with quality.
Think I'm going to leave it raw instead of paying $100 hoping for a 8, but I'll see when it comes if there is any hope of a 9
Never had a card graded before but recently sent off my Kobe rookie card. Its slightly off center but great otherwise. Hoping they don't kill me on the centering. not sure if they measure to the border on the right or the basketball which goes past the border.
Depends on which company you sent it to. Beckett is really tough on centering (pretty harsh actually) and PSA is a little more lenient on centering but really tough on thick cards.
Damn, bought this for $560, exact same card (with a little nicer patch) just sold at auction on ebay for $965 today. But same card /50 as the one I bought
Just got back into the hobby fairly recently, so I figured I’d come check out this thread. Skipped over a lot, but it seems like there is some good stuff in here.
Broke down and bought 2 Optic Blasters off eBay. Got a Herbert RR, Burrow RR, Love Pink RR, and a Tua Rookie Phenoms Jersey card.
What did you pay for them if you don’t mind me asking. I’d like to add 2 to my collection but they are running 90-110 bucks
Oh the excitement of paying above retail! It feels like that's what most card shops around Atlanta have these days.
I got them $85 a piece. Dude had them listed for $90, I offered him $80, he countered at $85 and shipped them on the same day. I told myself I wasn't going buy them second hand BUT I had been paying $155 for the Boombox Platinum each month and I cancelled it and decided to get these instead. I think the 4 rookie QBs alone made it worth the cost, whatever that means. I don't think I'll press my luck again tho.
