I don't think Collins would be a "buyer" situation. He's 23 and going to be a RFA, and there's talk Atlanta doesn't want to pay him. I don't have a problem at all with them calling. I think our trade with Houston makes that really complicated, though, and I'd much rather keep dreaming about a top 5 pick in this draft than pay Collins the max.
Edwards was bullish today that the Pistons won’t trade any of their rookies so I really don’t know how we can make any deal to add roster players worth a damn this week.
Edwards also said we had been offered multiple firsts for Grants but he isn’t aware of any would be potentially in the top 10.
If we can get future 2s for Ellington and Wright, that seems like a decent week. I like Wright, but his value is only going down once Hayes comes back.
Joseph's contract, as best I can tell, is guaranteed $2.5M next year, and is $12M+ if he's on the roster as of June 30. So we'll almost certainly dump him and eat the $2.5M. Pistons might have more dead money on the cap next year than the Lions this year at this rate.
I’m going to assume Weaver is accumulating dead money the next few seasons to limit the damage if Gores goes on a coke fueled bender and starts wanting to acquire players.
Can't wait until we trade 7.5 second round picks to get another 4 first round picks and the rights to Ricky Rubio this year.
Yeah, it seems fine to me. Is this correct? The Pistons sign and traded Christian Woods, a protected first and a second rounder for a first round pick (Isaiah Stewart), Trevor Ariza and a future second rounder. Then they traded Trevor Ariza for Delon Wright. Then they traded Delon Wright for 2 second round picks and some overall cash savings. So the sign and trade was Woods, a protected 1st and a current second for the 16th pick (Stewart), half a season of Delon Wright and 3 second round picks? Did I miss anything?
From a fan perspective, it’s easy to assume Wright was worth more than the Kings gave up. I do wonder if Weaver decided on the bird in hand to ensure he got something in the ballpark of what he wanted, but I get his approach. That doesn’t dismiss how dumb the HOU trade was though.
I was surprised there seemed to be no buzz around Wright as a trade target in any of the national stuff coming out over the last couple weeks. If teams like Philly and LAC weren't interested, this was as good as they were going to do. And I'm fine with that. Hayes is coming back and they want to play him, Lee and DSJ. It makes sense. I'm kind of terrified of what we're going to do with up to $20M in cap space next year, though. I don't know if I'm ready for another week like we had in November.
It’s weird because I like most of Weaver’s moves but I do hate that I too am terrified of him having a ton of cash this offseason.
If you’re looking at it this way, the Lakers 2 we got in this deal is the same 2 we send to Houston in the Wood sign and trade
when the trade was first announced the story didn't include that Joseph had a buy out. Taking on extra salary and getting a worse player didn't seem worth the picks. But now it doesn't look bad at all.
It took me 2-3 different stories to figure out what the mechanics of Joseph's deal are, and it's especially weird because of the delays due to COVID on the dates mentioned in the contract that threw me off.
Diallo had a great game last night. I would hate to be on the floor on the same time as he and Stewart.
For a while I've resisted the idea of taking Mobley if we had a top 2 pick. Cunningham was one, and I would have taken Suggs and Green over him, too, because we need guards more than bigs. Bigs also kind of seem like more of a crapshoot now coming into the league. After actually watching him play a bit in this tournament, he's closer to #1 than #3 for me. His skill set is absurd and if we somehow finally luck into a chance to take someone like that I'd go nuts.
I think we just need to stop playing Toronto. We can't miss when we play them. When Diallo and Lee are draining threes you know something weird is happening.
Sekou is a bottom 5 player in the league. He’s only on the roster because he was a first round pick. Fire him into the sun
