went to hell hole today. it was still pretty high, couldn't cast at few spots very well. thought i hung a rock and lazily pulled my line to the side, missed a big brown.
You just stay around the main area there? I caught a 18" one there on my first cast. Then went downstream about a mile for the rest.
i went down river a ways and worked my way back to the main area. there were some dudes spin fishing who caught a big brown out of a slower hole. i’ve never had luck there
Time to hit the river. Wonder if I'll even be able to go Sunday? It was over 4000 cfs at Burrells Ford last night. I new about mid morning Thursday there would be no fishing today.
Already down to below 2000 cfs and down to 3.25 inches from 5.25 inches. Thinking of riding out to Bull's Sluice after lunch to take a look.
it might drop enough by sunday. if i had to guess it will get to around 275ish by then but have cleared up. Chauga is a mudhole with the land clearing going on.
Had posted this in the random thread, but since I couldn't fish, we took the girls on a hike to a waterfall this afternoon. While hiking, we found this PMD mayfly Unfortunately for it, when it flew off it landed on a branch about 4 inches above this lizard Can at least use the picture as a model for some dry flies.
Went to Hellhole today, it was still very muddy and up about a foot. Managed to wrangle 3 10-12" browns out of a few hours.
Mine were icing up yesterday too. Chauga was up about a foot and murky, but at least it wasn't muddy.
everything is pretty high right now. i want to fish the tailwaters or for smallmouth but it’s not happening
Sunrise service for my Easter morning. Action was slow until light was on the creek. Caught a handful of small native brookies. Life is good.
Still not there for us over off Greeson. I caught one today and saw several swimming in the water but couldn't get them to bite for shit. Think this weekend should be good though, still weren't in the river in crazy numbers down there.
3 inch suspending Rapala They were in the Ouachita river and creeks on the very western part of the lake 3 weeks ago Tiffin
Pretty good day, had the best one get off though. Also had a little 3" sucker try to eat a fly over half its size.
Wore out the hybrids on Lake Norman saturday. If anyone is up here in this area and wants to go while they're spawning, lmk. I've got a guy up here that is fantastic and affordable. We caught ~75 fish from 6am-11am. 50 were hybrid anywhere from 2-3lbs all the way up to 10-12lbs.
Anyone have recommendations for a fillet knife? I'll be using it almost exclusively for trout, usually on the smaller side. I have a shitty Amazon one right now and it's awful. Looking to spend under $50 if possible.
Some fish from work today Smallmouth bass Striped shiner Common logperch Central stoneroller We’ve collected some other cool stuff too - golden redhorse, multiple darter species (rainbow, orange throat, greenside, banded), redfin shiner, orange spotted and longear sunfish, least brook lamprey, etc. I wish I’d taken more pictures, but it’s colder than shit and kind of a pain to get the phone out while wearing 3+ layers with a shocker on your back.
man, i love seeing all the non-game species. not sure what the technical term is for what isn’t fished for.
The Dexter ones with the white handle are what the commercial guys use. Need to use a real sharpener and sharpen as you go. I don't really keep fish too often, but that is what my grandpa taught me and seems to be what others say as well
For you southerners rock bass turn into a propeller when you catch them. Make you think you’ve got a hog on when it’s just a little guy
