I would have no qualms about pushing Kelly out if Freeman is the real deal. We’ve already seen we don’t draw top tier candidates when the job is open. This is like a fortunate string of events where we need to capitalize on already having him in the fold.

That’s not my concern, you can’t let him take a FSU, Texas, USC, premier P5 rebuilding type job bc you’ll never get him back.

Freeman has us back in it with a borderline 5 star DE. He released a top 7 without ND when Lea was still here, but now he’s going to OV

Is there a recruiting big board somewhere? Think there used to be prospects per position and notes on them and ND- updated like bimonthly or something

if so can someone post them? Gracious

true, but it never seems to pan out in an elite offense. We should also wait and see what happens with the freeman defense before we get all giddy but my point is that there is no excuse for this offense, one way or the other.

It sucked this last year, when you score like 10 points a game in big games something is seriously wrong

2018 and 2019 recruiting was an absolute crater sized hole on offense outside of Tremble (2018) and Kyren (2019) both of which were 3 star guys. 5 star Phil didn't pan out and the WRs turned out to be total busts so far. When 2 entire classes suck on offense, it's almost impossible to have a good offense. Offensive recruiting in 2020 and 2021 got much better (we think) so now it's time for them to play and hopefully see some results.

On that note, I've read multiple good reports about Jordan Johnson and Styles so far and Coan as well. I'm not the least bit worried about RB or TE. Coach D also said he's heard Tosh has had a fantastic winter program and they have very high hopes that he might take the LT spot as he was always destined to IMO. I said it when he was being recruited and I'll say it again, he's going to be a better version of Ronnie Stanley and will be drafted high in the first round. I still think he's the best Olineman to come out in the last 2 years.

Not much of note that came out of the first practice- ND is pretty banged up and thin this spring which should allow some depth to emerge at DB and OL.

Not sure I understand Lugg playing tackle in the spring if the plan is for him to play guard in the fall, we've seen Lugg play inside to mediocre results. If he is truly going to play guard than he should be repping it now. Personally I feel like Lugg should be the RT with Patterson at LG. Tosh Baker needs to win the LT outright- he's just a freak, put Patterson next to him to help steady his play. Put the best remaining OL at RG- ND needs to get the OL right, its the key to the whole season

Irish Illustrated wants to take a look at where things stand at each position. We will kick things off today with the receiver position.

    SLIDE1 of 13
Notre Dame has already picked up a commitment from Ponchatoula (La.) high school three-star receiver Amorion Walker. The 6-3, 178-pounder committed to the Irish on March 10, but we had told our subscribers that Notre Dame had the lead in this recruitment well before he made any type of announcement. While some pegged him to land at Mississippi State due to his ties to the school or even a few other contenders, we felt for a while the Irish led and the only thing we were waiting for was him stepping foot on campus. Well, that was unnecessary. Walker saw the big picture, wanted to play ball at Notre Dame and take advantage of the academic opportunities and wasted no time pulling the trigger for the Fighting Irish. This is a young man that should have Notre Dame fans excited. He’s a terrific player with plenty of upside.

    SLIDE2 of 13
When looking for a top target at this position, look no further than Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei four-star receiver C.J. Williams. The staff has always felt confident that when it came time for the 6-2, 195-pounder to make a final decision, Notre Dame would be in the mix. That looks to be the case today. Williams is expected to be at Notre Dame sometime this summer and the Irish will look to make a big push. USC, Texas and many others are still in play, but there is some surefire optimism from those at Notre Dame that he could eventually decide to play ball for the Irish.

    SLIDE3 of 13

Everyone knows how talented Chicago (Ill.) St. Rita four-star receiver Kaleb Brown is. He’s a tremendous talent and one of the best nationally. However, to be completely transparent as always, I feel strongly enough that Notre Dame is not going to be a major player in this race that I’m going to remove him from the Top Target board. I want to keep that board as updated as possible and while Notre Dame would go wild over landing his commitment, I don’t see that happening and I just don’t see him strongly considering them moving forward.

    SLIDE4 of 13
Another clear top target is La Grange Park (Ill.) Nazareth Academy four-star receiver Tyler Morris. Despite a very short time period where Notre Dame was reevaluating the board, the Fighting Irish coaching staff has been all over the 6-0, 175-pounder. That effort has only picked up over the past few months. Receivers coach Del Alexander and offensive coordinator Tommy Rees have been relentless in their pursuit to make sure Morris picks Notre Dame. Michigan is probably the biggest threat here, in addition to Texas and a few others, but the feeling is that when it comes time to make a commitment, it’ll be the Irish or Wolverines.

    SLIDE5 of 13

Notre Dame is a sleeper in the recruitment Camas (Wash.) Union four-star receiver Tobias Merriweather. The Fighting Irish have done well here, enough to be considered a top contender, but I’m not close to putting in a prediction for Notre Dame anytime soon. The longer this one goes, the better Notre Dame’s chances become, but again, it would be a surprise if he ended up at ND, albeit a pleasant one for Irish fans.

    SLIDE6 of 13
At one point, in talking with multiple sources, it seemed as though Notre Dame was close to flipping Westerville (Ohio) South high school four-star receiver Kaden Saunders from his Penn State commitment. Some inside the Gug, at least based on their conversations, felt it was more a matter of when rather than if it would happen. However, things look much better for the Nittany Lions as it stands today. Penn State has done a terrific job of recruiting him and they’ve continued to make him a priority. Notre Dame has left no stone unturned trying to land him, but it doesn’t look great for the Irish. I’m not ready to remove him from the board completely, but expectations today are that he sticks with Penn State.

    SLIDE7 of 13

Notre Dame has always been considered a legitimate contender for Richmond (Va.) St. Christopher’s School four-star receiver Andre Greene Jr. We feel strongly that he’s a favorite of Del Alexander. However, I’m not close to picking the Irish at this point. A key here will be getting him to campus this summer and seeing how that goes. An official visit would go a long way to potentially securing a commitment.

    SLIDE8 of 13
Irmo (S.C.) Dutch Fork four-star receiver Antonio Williams is a recently-offered target for Notre Dame, but not one I expect the Irish to land. In all honesty, like with Brown before, I’m going to just go ahead an remove him from the Top Target board. I expect him to end up elsewhere and the Irish are pushing for others harder at this point.

    SLIDE9 of 13

A prospect I believe Notre Dame actually leads for at this point is Katy (Texas) high school three-star receiver Nicholas Anderson. He’s a name we don’t talk enough about at this point. The Irish haven’t gone all-in yet and are remaining patient with the 6-3, 195-pounder, but as it stands right now, I like where Notre Dame stands. If they turn up the heat, look out.

    SLIDE10 of 13
I’m probably not that far off from removing Rockwall (Texas) high school three-star receiver Jay Fair from the Notre Dame board at this point. The Irish are in the mix, but not a top contender right now to my knowledge. We’ll see if that changes, but I would not get your hopes up, Irish fans.

    SLIDE11 of 13

Another name that I don’t see Notre Dame pushing for all that hard is Saraland (Ala.) high school three-star receiver Jarel Williams. Again, while people will be confused by this, it clearly means the Irish staff feels pretty strongly about their top of the board targets. Now if they miss on those while slow playing other talented players, it won’t be a good look. But as it stands now, Williams isn’t a guy they have been recruiting all that hard.

    SLIDE12 of 13
Notre Dame has been the favorite to land Buffalo (N.y.) Western New York Maritime Charter School three-star receiver Addison Copeland since he de-committed from Rutgers. While I still believe the Irish lead, they have slowed things down a bit. Pittsburgh is a major threat to land him as well and has quickly climbed his leaderboard. Don’t sleep on the Panthers. They will host him for an official visit and unless Notre Dame pushes hard, I could see him playing at Pitt.

Notre Dame loves Bluefield (Va.) Graham three-star receiver Xayvion Bradshaw. I want to make that clear. They are still remaining patient with the 6-0, 185-pounder, but they expect great things from him this spring during his junior season and then again in the fall when he hits the field as a senior. I also strongly believe he’ll eventually become a four-star recruit, as more eyes get on him. I think he has ridiculous potential as a playmaker in college, so I think this is a guy Notre Dame fans would love in the Blue and Gold.

Loy has a new CB today as well

The 247Sports Crystal Ball is a tool recruiting analysts use to show exactly where a recruit might end up. On Wednesday, a new prediction went in regarding a class of 2022 prospect potentially landing with the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

My last prediction has Phoenix (Ariz.) Brophy College Prep four-star cornerback Benjamin Morrison eventually committing to Notre Dame. A talented defensive back with NFL bloodlines, this would be a nice addition to the Fighting Irish roster.

I’m putting plenty of trust into my sources on this one that believe Notre Dame has the edge in this recruitment. Morrison has been high on the Fighting Irish since first landing that offer back on Feb. 10 during a conversation with special teams coordinator and primary recruiter Brian Polian. The two hit it off immediately and from what we’re told, Notre Dame has been the team to beat since that point. Despite picking up impressive offers from Alabama, Penn State and Auburn after that, sources have indicated that the Irish have been able to keep that top spot. Since that point, cornerbacks coach Mike Mickens and defensive coordinator Marcus Freeman have helped improve Notre Dame’s chances. These four individuals have had multiple conversations over the phone and Zoom, they have gone through excellence presentations and virtual visits, and there isn’t anything Morrison is unsure of about the Fighting Irish at this point.

Back in March, Morrison narrowed down his recruitment to 10 finalists. Notre Dame made the cut along with Florida State, Michigan, Michigan State, Nebraska, Northwestern, Oklahoma, Oregon, UCLA and Washington.

"Notre Dame is very similar to my high school Brophy Prep,” said Morrison to 247Sports National Analyst Brandon Huffman. “I’m enjoying learning about their tradition and am getting to know the coaches better. Coach (Brian) Polian and coach (Mike) Mickens have done a great job exposing me to Notre Dame. I like what I’ve seen so far."

    20COMMENTS
At this point, I expect Morrison to visit Notre Dame this summer, likely in June when trips are once again allowed, and for him to potentially pull the trigger before his senior season. When looking at how well he fits both as a player and student, this would be a really strong win for the Fighting Irish defense.

A four-star in the industry-generated 247Sports Composite Rankings, Morrison ranks as the No. 299 overall player in America, No. 31 cornerback nationally by the composite and the No. 4 prospect in the state of Arizona, while 247Sports slots him as the No. 3 prospect in his home state this cycle.

kid seems legit with some serious offers and pretty good film to go along with it

some observations from the 3 min video ND posted on practice

Coan throws a pretty nice ball and he's big, much bigger than Book with a bigger arm too

Buchner's two deep balls looked really nice and it looks like Xavier Watts can play some

Pyne looks tiny and just doesn't have the stature of the other 2 qbs

Bothelho on that last pass rush blew by Lugg and Tyree for what would have been a strip sack in real football, looked very quick and explosive...him and Foskey on the edges in pass rush situations is going to be quite nice (I think it will be Foskey/Mills/MTA/Bothelho in 3rd and long situations)
