What’s really crazy is that the 3rd period goal run isn’t even shocking at this point. It’s like watching the prime Warriors erase a 12 point deficit and just going “well yeah they can do that”
I hate making comparisons to all time great teams, but yeah, this team has been able to throw a switch and completely overwhelm opponents. They aren't trying games with fluky goals that defy the pace of play. They literally hit another gear and turn into the best team by every analytic in the NHL for 20 straight minutes.
Well im just comparing that one thing...where a quick comeback even if by double digits/multiple goals feels totally doable and not surprising. Since we never play with an actual lead, I can't really compare anything else.
I know and its actually a solid comparison. I'm just so damaged by this team that I refuse to allow myself to think they are that good just yet.
You really needed to cite a source on that? Lowest of efforts of stats .... I mean it's a nice stat just funny they felt like they needed to credit it. Bobrovsky is about one "man that's the goal he gives up?!" Per game away from being an absolute playoff threat of a goalie.
Absolutely. Both teams were playing a full fledged sludge game and it was still extremely intense. Also, GET PUCK TRACKING NHL. FUCK.
Yea. That gave me hope. The miracle knew sprain didn’t happen but this was a best case scenario. Crushes the long playoff run hopes, but overall, this is good news.
It won't be easy but they can make up the gap...just not with one guy. Basically have to moneyball it. You need to replace his defense and his scoring. You can't do that with a single guy....but you can make it up with a combination. Maybe it's a trade for a pure defenseman and then you make up the goals more from underperforming wingers. Duclair is the obvious best opportunity here. Tippett can get more (and will be on the PP now). Weeger can make up a little bit from the blue line. But really, just need to plug in someone to defend well and hope to god guys like Duclair can start cashing in at a higher rate.
I agree with all of this. I know that certain people in the organization are pushing zito to acquire taylor hall. that would definitely help with the scoring loss. Couldn't agree more on Duclair. His underlying numbers are excellent. the pucks will start going in eventually. A lot of Panthers fans want them to claim Ghost because he is a local kid, but that contract is trash. It makes sense in a trade that sends Connolly the other way, but unless that happens, no deal from me.
Maybe can turn a prospect like Levi into something. I dunno. I just hope we don't try to plug in a worse offensive-defenseman and just use the spot for defense.
other than ghost, no real offensive d-man available. you will probably get your wish that the replacement for ekblad in the lineup will be a defensive d-man. This is the ultimate buyers market. Taylor Hall is likely going to go for a 2nd round pick and a mediocre prospect. Tippett will be a solid replacement for ekblad on PP1. This is something I've wanted to see all season but with the PP creating chances at an elite level, no changes were needed. now with injuries. It's necessary. Forsling will also take some of the offensive responsibilities from ekblad. I like that Forsling-Weegar pairing a lot.
He's the best goalie prospect since Carey Price and has done nothing but live up to that billing since being drafted. Was dominant in the WJC this past December and was excellent at BC. The issue is that he's blocked by Bobrovsky. There were fears he would play 2 more years and hit UFA. So him signing is great news. There are some in the org that would love to use him as a trade chip in an impact trade, but I don't think it will happen.
Trade him? Fuck no. Bobrovsky can earn his $10mil as a backup for all I care or buy him out but you don't just trade away that high of a goalie prospect. Especially with the historical issues we have had there.
you can and in 2021 where load management is becoming accepted. It's good to have two excellent goalies. But it's just not the best asset management when your top 15 pick is playing 25-30 games a season until he's 25.
No argument. Knight was a good pick in the sense that so far he's lived up to expectations, it just didn't really make sense when they knew Bob was coming. Drafting someone like Cole Caufield, Alex Newhook, or Peyton Krebs at that spot would have done a lot more for the future of the team considering they now have depth issues at both Wing and Center. Long story short, it should have been one of bob or Knight. Not both, but Dale Tallon gonna Dale Tallon.
Barkov and Hornvquist skated this AM but won't play tonight. Hopefully just giving them extra time since we are still just playing the Wings. but they should be close.
He's a free prospect. If you get 20 competent NHL games out of him or are able to use him as an asset in a trade, it's a win.
He’s not a Norris trophy candidate but damn Weeger is having a hell of a year and stepping up with Ekblad out. Total threat on the ice
He looked nothing like this last year. Been told by multiple people that he had gotten extremely complacent and the effort wasn’t there. They knew it was likely he would bounce back with a change of scenery, but he’d worn out his welcome in Florida. as for the trade itself, all tallon. He did it on his own and get taken for a ride by one of the best Front offices in the NHL.
