Kelly mentioned in his presser that he wants Pyne to be pushing for the starting spot. Seems to really want a competition there.

Im not sure if that’s a narrative on the desire for competition or how highly (over)rated the kid is by our staff.

Will Rivals100 defensive end Cyrus Moss of Las Vegas Bishop Gorman visit Notre Dame this summer? (Nick Lucero/Rivals.com)
    Official Visit Tidbits
Here are quick blurbs about what I’m hearing about the following 20-plus prospects in regard to potential official visits in June. Please note that this is not an exhaustive list of every player who may officially visit this summer. Rather, these are prospects who I have recently gathered information on.

This is all assuming that visits do open up in June. There is no announcement from the NCAA regarding the ending of the dead period yet, but there is plenty of optimism that prospects will be able to visit campuses this summer, although what exactly that will look like is unknown.

Prospects are sorted in alphabetical order.

    WR

Nicholas Anderson — The big receiver from Texas has been in contact with Del Alexander and the Irish staff about visiting the weekend of June 18.

    WR

Xayvion Bradshaw — He has spoken with Notre Dame about an official, but there is no tentative date yet.

    DB

Terrance Brooks — The Under Armour All-American is in the process of setting dates but nothing is set just yet. Notre Dame will likely get an official.

    LB

Sebastian Cheeks — Nothing is set up just yet, but the expectation is that Cheeks gets on campus this June.

    WR

Addison Copeland — He has official visits set to Pittsburgh and South Carolina for June already. Notre Dame has constant contact with Copeland, but nothing has been set up yet.

    DB

Sherrod Covil — Notre Dame is a top school for him, and he’d like to officially visit, but nothing has set up yet.

    RB

Dallan Hayden — As we have previously reported, Hayden plans to officially visit June 11 and will hit Ohio State the following week. Those two programs are his top options.

    OL

Carson Hinzman — The nation’s top center is locked in to see Wisconsin the first weekend of June and Notre Dame for June 18. He would like to set up more trips.

    DE

Cyrus Moss — The elite Rivals100 edge player tells BlueandGold.com that he is looking at taking an official visit to Notre Dame June 18.

    DB

Jaden Mangham — He will be at West Virginia June 4 and Georgia Tech the following weekend. Mangham wants to take five officials in June, and Notre Dame would be a likely destination.

    DB

Nikai Martinez — The four-star cornerback has discussed an official visit with Notre Dame, but nothing has been set yet.

    RB

Emeka Megwa — I spoke with the four-star Texas running back on Sunday, and his recruitment with Notre Dame went from cold to pretty warm in the past few weeks. He is looking at an official visit to Notre Dame the first weekend of June.

    CB

Benjamin Morrison — He is tentatively set to officially visit Notre Dame the weekend of June 11. Alabama looks to be the Irish’s biggest competition here.

    S

Xavier Nwankpa — Ohio State, the perceived leader for him, will get an official visit June 4, and Notre Dame will host him June 18.

    TE

Eli Raridon — As we’ve reported, he will take a self-guided tour the weekend of April 17. Additionally, he has four official visit dates tentatively set: Iowa State June 4, Tennessee June 11, Notre Dame June 18 and Iowa June 25.

    DB

Khamauri Rogers — The Rivals100 cornerback plans to see Miami the weekend of June 18 and Tennessee the following weekend. At this point, he’s likely to see Notre Dame the first weekend of June.

    RB

Gavin Sawchuk — He is planning to officially visit Notre Dame the final weekend of June. As things stand right now, Notre Dame will have four running backs on campus in June, all in consecutive weekends (Megwa, Hayden, Singleton and Sawchuk, in that order).

    OL

Billy Schrauth — The longtime Notre Dame is likely to officially visit South Bend the first chance he gets. There is no date set at this point.

    RB

Nicholas Singleton — As previously reported, Singleton’s official visit dates are as follows: Wisconsin June 4, Penn State June 11, Northwestern midweek, Notre Dame June 18 and Ohio State June 25.

    TE

Holden Staes — He has discussed official visits with Notre Dame but does not have anything set.

    DE

Teva Tafiti — The Hawaiian product also has talked with Notre Dame about an official but does not have a tentative date.

    LB

Niuafe Tuihalamaka — It would be a major surprise if he doesn’t officially visit in June. It is likely the last thing he’d want to do before committing to the Irish.

    S

KJ Winston — The Maryland product is going to visit Penn State June 12 and will visit Notre Dame as well but doesn’t have a date.

    FutureCast Updates
I currently have 11 Rivals FutureCast picks in for Notre Dame. Here’s an update on all of them.

Prospects are sorted in order of prediction date.

    OL

Billy Schrauth — Prediction Date: July 30, 2020: It has been eight months since I put in my pick for the big-time interior offensive lineman to choose Notre Dame, and you’d think after all of this time that something must be up and he’s leaning elsewhere now. However, I don’t believe that to be the case. Until I hear otherwise, I still feel good about Schrauth ending up in Notre Dame’s class.

    DT

Donovan Hinish — Prediction Date: Nov. 23, 2020: The ball seems to be in Notre Dame’s court with Hinish. If the Irish staff wants to speed up the timeline and get him verbally committed sooner than later, then that’s what I believe would happen. From what I’m told, Notre Dame really likes Hinish on tape and the young man bleeds blue and gold. I still see him landing with the Irish.

    DE

Alex Bauman — Prediction Date: Nov. 23, 2020: The way Notre Dame is recruiting at defensive end right now, I’m not sure if Bauman will end up having a spot in this class. This is the reason why I never put in a prediction for Hawaiian defensive end Teva Tafiti to choose Notre Dame. I did put one back in for Bauman well before Marcus Freeman join the staff though. Notre Dame could look at him as a tight end, but numbers are even tighter there. I’m not ready to write off Bauman committing to Notre Dame just yet as head coach Brian Kelly as ultimate say. We’ll just have to see.

    OT

Jake Taylor — Prediction Date: Dec. 3, 2020: The four-star prospect is down to Alabama, Notre Dame and Oklahoma, and I could see him landing at any of these schools. It does look like it’ll come down to the June official visits for Taylor. He had been on commit watch for Notre Dame earlier this year, but the Sooners are very active in this recruitment, and Alabama is, well, Alabama.

    LB

Sebastian Cheeks – Prediction Date: Dec. 10, 2020 – This is another guy who was commit watch for a while. Even though he said publicly that he wanted to wait until after his spring junior season to make a decision, I felt that he would speed his timeline up. Here we are though; credit to Cheeks to sticking with his original plan. Notre Dame’s numbers at linebackers are tight, but I do believe that Cheeks will end up having a spot at the end of the day.

    TE

Eli Raridon — Prediction Date: Feb. 11, 2021: Numbers at tight end are also tight, but I’m told the Notre Dame staff really likes Raridon’s junior football tape and what he showed on the basketball court as well. He has a full slate of visits in June, but the Fighting Irish should win this recruitment sooner or later.

    LB

Niuafe Tuihalamaka — Prediction Date: Feb. 15, 2021: Notre Dame is the team to beat for the nation’s top inside linebacker, and my prediction will stick for the Irish. Stanford and Texas are the main competitors for Notre Dame here.

    CB

Nikai Martinez — Prediction Date: Feb. 24, 2021: If Notre Dame gives Martinez a good push, I see him landing in the class. There are so many cornerback targets on the 2022 board that it’s hard to project who will end up in the class though.

    DE

DJ Wesolak — Prediction Date: March 8, 2021: Alabama, Clemson and LSU have entered the picture for the four-star defensive end in the past month and change, but I still like the Irish here. His connection with the staff and other commits is very strong. Other schools have to play catch up at this point. Wesolak is no lock to Notre Dame though.

    TE

Holden Staes — Prediction Date: March 18, 2021: Like I’ve said several times before, there are plenty of questions about tight end recruiting, as it seems improbably that Notre Dame would take three tight ends but already has Jack Nickel committed and I like Raridon and Staes for the Irish. Staes is considered a strong Notre Dame lean at this point in time.

    LB

Jaylen Sneed — Prediction Date: March 22, 2021: Sneed visited Notre Dame’s campus last Sunday, and it didn’t feel out of the equation that he would end the week on the Irish’s commitment list. He didn’t verbally pledge to Notre Dame as he still wants to see other places, but his trip to South Bend went well. I really like where the Irish are at in this recruitment.

Notre Dame Keeping Tabs On DE Darren Agu
I was asked to cover the VTO Elite 100 camp in Atlanta on Sunday, and I did so with the expectation of seeing only a few prospects who held any division one offers. I was stunned to see Rabun Gap (Ga.) Nacoochee defensive end

Darren Agu, who holds offers from 29 programs.

Several of his teammates also participated in the camp, and Agu made his way down from North Georgia for the camp and dominated with his length, strength and very quick hands. He has some offers at tight end, but he is likely to play defensive end at the next level.

Notre Dame has not offered Agu yet, but defensive line coach Mike Elston regularly keeps in contact. I reported back on March 8 that I believe Agu will end up receiving an offer from the Irish. That hasn’t taken place yet, but the Irish staff is still closely evaluating him. The way things are trending on the defensive end board, throwing another prospect in the mix only complicates things more, but he may be too good to pass up.

Agu on what a Notre Dame offer mean to him: “It would definitely be high up in my rankings.”

Ian Book is a great player to have in the program, it just would have been nice if there was a better player to start over him and he was a backup.

I don't know if there is room for him as a backup in system like the Shanahan/LaFleur/McVey type offenses that stretches the field horizontally more than vertically and us RPO heavy, but that's pretty much his ceiling.

    Khamauri Rodgers update from Loy

Notre Dame is looking to make a run at a Top 5 class this cycle and so far, the Fighting Irish have put together one of the more impressive groups in the class of 2022. As of today, Notre Dame has the No. 4 class in the country and there are 11 commits already locked in with the Irish.

Here’s the latest on a top target with high interest in Notre Dame.

Lexington (Miss.) Holmes County four-star cornerback Khamauri Rogers is a big-time priority for the Fighting Irish coaching staff. He holds over 40 scholarship offers, is a Top100 talent nationally and Notre Dame is doing all it can to make sure he lands in South Bend.

On Saturday, Rogers will trim his list of scholarship offers down to a final five. Notre Dame is expected to make the cut.

Why? His connection to the coaching staff. Defensive coordinator Marcus Freeman and cornerbacks coach Mike Mickens are doing a tremendous job of developing a relationship with Rogers and his family. They are doing the little things beyond just telling him what Notre Dame can do for him. They are building a bond, which is sitting well with the elite defensive backs and those close to him.

That effort is why Rogers tells Irish Illustrated that he’s planning on visiting Notre Dame in April with his family. It will be a self-guided visit, but one that will be very important regarding his interest in the Irish. Also, look for him to return to campus for an official visit in June when the dead period ends. Getting him on campus twice before he makes what looks to be a late summer decision could be huge for the Fighting Irish and their pursuit for one of the most talented players in the class of 2022.

"Knowing that they have a good academic program. That helps," said Rogers, when asked what appeals about Notre Dame and the football program. "And coach Freeman and coach Mickens, our relationship, that helps a lot too."

247Sports Scouting Report: Possesses excellent stature and length for a cornerback entering his sophomore season in high school. Should continue adding mass over the next three years of high school and once he's in a college strength and conditioning program. Plays both corner and safety for his high school team. Shows good ball skills in locating, tracking and making plays in downfield coverage. Uses his length to make plays on in-breaking routes. His advanced length also helps in making up a downfield separation deficit at times. Shows solid fluidity and ability to turn and run, but will need to continue honing his technique in man press coverage. Shows some early signs of physicality as an open field tackler and in defending the run. Will need to keep progressing in his overall skill set and athleticism throughout his high school career. Projects as an early top prospect in the 2022 cycle with the upside of developing into a Power 5 starter and possible NFL Draft pick should he continue to progress.

Per the 247Sports Composite Rankings, Rogers is the No. 65 overall player in America, No. 7 cornerback in the country and No. 1 prospect in Mississippi from the class of 2022. 247Sports has him slightly lower as the No. 117 overall talent this cycle.

Hoping for recovering core of Austin, Johnson, Colzie, Watts and Styles while knowing it’s gonna be Wilkins, Keys, and Davis because Kelly is so depressing. Maybe instead of worrying about blocking have receivers who can stretch the field and take corners away from plays.

I woke up thinking about this

Davis can do some things from the slot, I don't mind him being a focal point of the offense. The rest I agree.

sounds like Jyaire Brown is visiting this weekend unofficially

Here’s the latest on a top Notre Dame target, who is currently committed elsewhere.

West Chester (Ohio) Lakota West four-star cornerback Jyaire Brown has been a high priority for the Fighting Irish for a long time. Cornerbacks coach Mike Mickens had been keeping tabs on him for quite a while, but things really ramped up when he and new defensive coordinator Marcus Freeman decided to team up and go all-in to try and flip the 6-0, 180-pounder from his Ohio State commitment.

We’ve said for a while at Irish Illustrated and 247Sports that Notre Dame is very much in play for the No. 112 overall player in the class of 2022. Despite those saying that he’s going to stick with the Buckeyes, we do believe he’s strongly considering the Fighting Irish and it wouldn’t surprise us if he ended up at Notre Dame when all is said and done. It’s far from a lock by any means, but the Irish are definitely major players in this race.

In addition, sources have indicated to us that Brown will be at Notre Dame for an unofficial visit, a self-guided trip, in April. The expectation is that he’ll make his way to campus at some point over the weekend of Apr. 3-4. If that visit takes place as expected, that would likely be one of two trips to South Bend before he eventually shuts down his recruitment completely. Beyond that, at least as of now, he’s set to take an official visit to Ohio State over the weekend of June 4-6. We believe that Brown will then head to Notre Dame for an official visit that month as well. Getting him to campus twice in as many months would greatly help ND’s chances. It'll be quite the battle down the stretch, but Freeman and Mickens are doing all they can to flip the longtime Buckeyes commit.

247Sports Scouting Report: Natural cover corner with encouraging frame relative to position projection. Good height. Long and lean with a wiry, athletic build. Should add some bulk with continued physical development. Displays promising turn-and-run ability. Speed to stay with receivers in vertical game. Receivers do not get on top of him easily. Plays with swagger. Combines that with long levers to provide press effectiveness. Looks fairly fluid for a young, taller corner. Disruptive at the catch point. Shows suddenness when breaking on the ball. Sometimes high in his backpedal and can improve pad level consistency. Lacks athletic context from combine testing and track perspectives. High-major corner with good anticipation and functional athleticism with long-term NFL Draft upside.

I would say it's pretty crazy to me for some of these higher end kids to visit unofficially from so far away knowing that OVs are about to open up. Especially Khamauri who lives in Miss...Freeman must be selling something crazy to get him to come to visit ND twice

I don't disagree about Davis, but this idea that ND doesn't recruit receivers is more that Kalley doesn't play receivers recruited.
