I've had a couple different store picks of Four Roses Single Barrel and they've all been great. In for a smoke wagon (never tried it but anything rye forward is good in my book) or 4Roses.
Does anyone in here actually have a smoke wagon rare and limited? If so is it open? I want to send you a sample of the good times pick to compare
not sure what to think of this one: Excited for our first shipment of NULU Barrel Proof Bourbon from @prohibitioncraft. The 3 barrel blend was crafted by our local purveyor of fine spirits @madzackmac owner of @madvinesandspirits. Enjoy a really well balanced blend of MGP 5+ year Bourbon bottled at 113 proof. Price $68.69 + tax while these 60 bottles we received last. This is the first ever barrel proof small batch release from the distillery. Cheers #maisanosfinewine #barrelproof #smallbatch #bestbourbonselectiononthecoast
Haven’t heard anything about their bourbon, but their ryes are well thought of so I’d likely give it a try
Smoke wagon is a true delight. eagle rare picks can sometimes hit 11 and 12 years and that shits delicious. four roses oeso for life.
R&L batch 1 batch is a blend of barrels across years aged. My point is that Aaron buys 36% rye MGP bourbon. All Smoke WAgon barrels are 36% rye. that's going to be totally different than a 21% rye (e.g., Good Times, Blaum Bros Old Fangled, etc.)
Yeah I was just saying that his groups Old times comparison was to a SW store pick (can see by the depiction on the label) and that a store pick isn’t the same as rare and limited.
In for whatever the group decides. Also in to front cash if needed. Preferences - but whatever y’all wanna do is fine w me: 4 Roses Buffalo Trace Russell’s Sazerac
This has been beaten to death but a Sazerac pick would be interesting for the relative novelty. I echo the 4R, RR sentiments.
In for several bottles myself of any choice. Would probably pick up several more for friends around here. Also, depending on timing could potentially be interested in muling a few cases down if needed. North Carolina recently raised MSRP to $70 so depending on state this is actually well below MSRP. For me it's still 100% a buy at $70 but damn if $60 wasn't a real sweet spot for it.
I think I'd rank them similarly to everyone else: 1a. Smoke Wagon (assuming it would be 8+ years. I don't think I've seen a private barrel under 8) 1b. 4R BS 2. Russells 3. ER 4. BT or Sazerac 5. 1792 if we could get FP
I'm in for any bottle you guys decide on and will buy multiple bottles if needed. Does anyone know how to get a good custom label? Trying to give two bottles away as prize for our Member/Member this year. Haven't decided what bottle to go with yet but can find it around town or in the secondary. I do want to get a cool unique label. Makers does them that are OK but I don't want to give a bottle of Makers. 4 roses single barrel would probably be good if I can get a custom label for that.
Two store pics just came in at my store. I just called and paid for and reserved the Smooth Ambler Old Scout Maisano Hand Select Smooth Ambler Old Scout MGP Bourbon "Chocolate Caramel Spice" Aged 5 years 5 months bottled barrel proof at 118.4 Barrel Yield 186 Bottles Price is $52.80 + tax per 750ml bottle. 3 bottle per person limit. Maisano Hand Select Redemption High Rye Bourbon 36% Rye mash bill bottled at 105 proof. Aged 4 years 7 months, Barrel Yield 222 Bottles Price is $39.24 + tax per 750ml bottle. This Bourbon is not only excellent neat, it also makes killer cocktails because of the Rye content. No bottle per person limit.
Sorry, having some next day second vaccine symptoms and feel like dogshit, so I will try to get more info over the weekend, but BrickTamland suggested we start with a minimum purchase to make facilitation easier, which is probably a good idea. I still want to start a separate thread, but we can do that when I get more info. I am in agreement with the way the list has shaped out...Try for Smoke Wagon and in the very likely event we can't get it then we move to 4R, and then ER or RR.
Can we get a store pick label that says “Hand selected by The-Mainboard Bourbon Thread: Unfriendly, Drunk, and Cunty Since 2009”
As others have echoed, I'd be willing to contribute in anyway possible (money upfront, committing to multiple bottles, etc.) to get this to happen.
As TMB Bourbon Club’s premier angel investor, I will gladly pre-pay for one illegally shipped case sent to Georgia.
