I now recall the conversation. Pretty impressive considering the amount of beer I have had since then.

I noticed yesterday that my Paramount UV system isn’t working. If I unplug it and plug it back in the lights will come on for a second or two then they go out again. Any idea what might be causing that?

You are in good company, I was confused the first couple times I saw it as well. Finally I called tech support and they said that is indeed what they do when burning out. That is until they do not light up at all, even for a second.

Do I need to buy the Paramount brand or is generic ok?

Edit: Nevermind. Found the Paramount brand at a similar price point.

So this Texas freeze thing could not have come at a more inopportune time. Manufacturers already struggled to keep up with inventory demands across the US the past year with unforecasted high demand/sales brought on my home spending due to covid. Couple that with factory shutdowns for quarantine (raw materials, parts, and whole goods) and it was already a shitshow.

This is going to effect the whole country on the pool scene. Companies in Texas are going to extraordinary lengths to procure parts as even online retailers are not fulfilling orders as they come in to try to keep some parts/equipment available. Texas would quickly devour every part/equipment available if it was allowed.

I know multiple companies that have flown an individual to the east coast or west coast. They are renting u-hauls and going from store to store attempting to fill the trucks up to drive them back to Texas. Even as such, there will be pools still down in the fall. And not just a couple.

Right now the biggest demand is CPVC diverter valves, and even PVC diverter valves which do not have as high of a heat reaistance. That is the starting point. Especially 3-port valves which are an absolute necessity for pool/spa combination systems with automated controls.

I had an Amazon order for a jandy valve canceled bc “seller listed wrong price” Finally bought one at local Leslie’s. After some YouTube realized I only needed diverter thing. Ordered those off Amazon and actually got them. When I took valve back to Leslie’s dude was like man we have been completely sold out since you got this

My guy luckily had the pvc and valves that busted. I was able to get a housing for my pump that cracked off of Amazon for a highly inflated price, which I was happy to pay

I have not been home to see the sunset during the week since the storm and am also working Saturdays & Sundays. I do not foresee that changing until mid-summer.

This shit is so not cool and customer’s are already starting to get ridiculous. They can not grasp that there are not parts or equipment available. I tell them that I can see the pics they sent me and that there is not even a need for me to go to their pool until inventory is available or I can MacGyver a temporary fix together bypassing equipment and piecing together used parts, equipment, and/or valves.

I am exhausted and most likely the biggest cause of it is the additional stress customers are adding.

Cost of filter pump, ~$1000 or ~$1800 if variable speed.
    Cost of filter, ~$1500.
    Cost of heater ~$3500.

Being able to jump in your pool when it is 0*, priceless.

is there any reason my salt water pool would have a chlorinator? Guy cleaning my pool from all the debris from stone guys asked me why I had one. Didn’t know I did!

If the chlorine generator was added after construction they may have just left it on there rather than cutting it out. It’s not a bad backup should your generator go down, especially now.

    Multiple reasons.

    1. When pool water drops below ~60 salt systems shut down. The reason being is that cold water is not near as good at conducting electricity and the sensors do not read salt levels correctly. As the water temp drops, you would need an obscenely high level of salt in the pool to have the sensors read an appropriate level of salt to generate chlorine. So high that it would rapidly damage metal components in, around, and associated with your pool. So the manufacturers preset a temp shut off. Even though not near as much chlorine is needed in cold water as in warm/hot, it is still needed to keep a pool a pool.

So someone with a brain installed a chlorinator.

    2. When your salt system goes down, and it will, and you are mulling over whether or not you want to spend ~$2000 to have a new one installed, you still have a chlorinator there to chlorinate the pool that does not involve a floating chlorinator (which does not do a good job of constantly and evenly chlorinating your pool as well as being a favorite item for kids to grab and play with) or putting tabs in the skimmer (which is a terrible idea, especially if you have a heater).

So someone with a brain installed a chlorinator.

    God damnit!

Dig on the pool started today and the excavator sliced underground electrical that the utility company missed when they marked a few weeks back.

Now a bunch of our neighbors don't have power and the dig is on hold until we can get the lines rerouted.

also whatever your pool needs are buy them now. In 2-3 months your pool company wont be able to get anything.

They already can’t get anything in most places. Unbelievable demand against raw material supply & production constraints is making it impossible for suppliers to keep up.

Pool needs also mean chemicals? I have a lifetime supply of shock bc I got fomo during beginning of pandemic. Do I also need to stock up on muriatic acid, salt, etc?

Right now the biggest shortages are going to surround 3in tabs, non-chlorine shock, & dichlor granules. Most other items should be fine in terms of chemical supply.

Skimmer socks on your baskets may at least prevent the filter from getting clogged up. Just watch them closely because you don’t want to block water flow if they get clogged.

Well I did this and it worked fine for over a month and then last night it started draining hot tub too fast again, had to move valve on suction side a little past 180 degrees to get it work right. Any ideas?

One thing I thought was weird was on youtube video when they replaced diverter it fit in perfectly. When I did it you had to push kinda hard to the right to get the screws to line up (on both suction and return)

Opened 3 days go. Feel's great. Pool is crystal clear. Now, if i can get rid of the 4 foot garter snake that's made it's home in our rock waterfall... this weekend will be balancing calcium and getting salt in and temp up to get the SWG going.
