The allocated stuff all goes to a lottery or is announced a certain day and people campout all day for it. Lenells and Mtn Brook ABC will have "good stuff" but you aren't going to stroll in and find Weller 12 or something.
Check out Hilltop Liquors in Vestavia. It's a private liquor store so you'll pay a premium, but it recently opened and has been getting some harder to find bourbons fairly regularly.
I haven’t checked it out but I know from friends it’s one of those spots where it helps to build rapport with the owner. If you just walk in and ask for Blanton’s he will likely tell you no when in reality it’s hidden behind the counter for regulars.
They had things like Willet Family Reserve, Elijah Craig Toasted, Buffalo Trace, Four Roses OESK, and other other allocated items out on the shelf when I went in ~10 days ago. The guy was pretty friendly but I don't doubt they have stuff behind the counter. Regardless, RJF-GUMP may be able to find something sitting out he can't normally get in the 'Sip.
I'm not sure about that one because they had sold it minutes before I got there. They advertised it on their instagram story, so I knew to ask. BT was going for $40 I believe (or maybe that was Weller SR?), ECTB for around $100 and I didn't bother looking at the Willet price. They had a good selection for uncommon items (at least in AL) but they are definitely charging a premium.
Just went in there. They have Barrel Rye and Dovetail for $120 and $130. Several bottles of Kentucky Owl and some Peerless. Some nice Foursquare rum bottles at high prices. The Buffalo Trace was $44 I think.
I’ll add Solid Sounds from Yellowhammer Brewing is one of the better new beers I have had recently. It’s a New England style IPA and if you are into that I’d pick it up if you come across it
I’ll add Ghost Train’s Little Victories if you like citrusy Pale Ales. The Blackfish you can pick up a six at that new Hilltop package next to Publix. Solid spot.
I know! Very proud of him, was in Bham 18 months ago when he had just transitioned in to the role. The Smiths know how to get things done
Do you just pack up your stuff and move somewhere else after this or do you just try to put it all behind you and move forward? Obviously people aren't going to be okay letting him in their houses for work anytime soon so got to change jobs I'd imagine. Maybe join Church of the Highlands and go all in the other direction?
Got my 1st covid vaccine shot today at the new drive-through place next to the airport. Very simple to do. https://www.jeffcoema.org Click the green button
Have family coming into town tomorrow that are very covid-conscious but still want to grab dinner. Normally I'd just go to outdoor dining but it's going to be a little cold. Any suggestions for places that have pretty good spacing indoors?
FWIW a lot of places have heaters for their outside seating now, too. Not sure what they'd like to eat.
As Charlie Conway said above, getting it at the airport couldn’t be easier. Sign up via that link. They have appointments open as soon as Monday morning. Whole process takes about 30min and you don’t have to get out of your car. They even use the kind bud Pfizer and not that schwag Moderna.
Delicious. Had West Indies salad which was really good. then snapper over grits with crawfish tails. Then strawberry cobbler. I will say that living on the coast, it wasn’t one of the freshest pieces of snapper I’ve ever had, and I thought it could’ve been seasoned and/or sauced in a more exciting fashion. The fish itself was a bit bland more my taste. Strawberry cobbler was phenomenal. Overall I really enjoyed the meal.
