I watched the end of Bellator last night. The pitbull guy committed a murder. Knocked a dude down and when he tried to get up he put him in a ridiculous guillotine. He was yelling for the ref to stop the fight because the dude was unconscious. Took the ref a while to figure it out and he just kept choking him. Guy didn't get up for a while.
Wasn’t able to see the full card but did catch the female fight where the girls ass was in your face for two full rounds. Not sure if she had ever wrestled in the tights she was wearing but you could see everything but her soul. There’s a snippet of her vagina on Twitter.
Him and Mighty Mouse are definitely the best fighters outside of the UFC. The guy destroyed Chandler, and 145 is probably his best weight class.
If they won't give him the money he wants for a title fight, I doubt they would for a non-title fight. At this point it seems like he set his price and will fight if they meet it and won't if they don't.
I don’t think a guy who fancies himself the goat (and has been lauded by Dana as such) is not fighting for a strap and 7 figures guaranteed. I’d love to see him vs Stipe, but I don’t see him doing it. I also don’t know how badly he wants to fight Francis. What do you do with that guy if you walk in 25 lbs lighter? It’s probably a smart play to ask for insane money and make Dana call your bluff
The Steve-O podcast clips with Jon were pretty decent, oddly enough. I've never seen Steve-O's content before. Jon basically said once you get at peace with this guy breaking your face and KO'ing you, you can go train and be ready to fight. I don't blame Jon for asking for $8-10 million. It's just not going to happen IMO. I think Dana is fine leaving Jon on the shelf for as long as Jon wants it.
The mental toughness you have to have is insane. No way I could be like yeah let me go get in the octagon with this guy who can end my life
TIFWIW but he told Steve-O he was willing to meet Dana halfway. Of course, he’s going to paint it that way, but he claims Dana won’t even restructure his contract to give him Heavyweight money.
Jon would have to make it boring. Go ahead and give up the first round staying outside, getting Francis moving/etc with feinting, shooting, etc. He's still got the reach advantage but man he's worked a full year just to get to ~250? Francis is cutting to 263. If you get hit and don't go down, that's probably the only freebie you're getting.
Also I've changed my stance on fighting Francis, you now have to get through 2 rounds. (Disclaimer: This is subject to change.)
Volk and Ortega being the TUF coaches is lame af. That pushes this fight and holds up the division like 6 months.
yeah thought that was stupid. fight was all ready to go now you’re just going to throw them in TUF? weak
Jon Jones isn't a draw. His fights are boring, his style is boring. The only drawing power he has is manufacturing bad blood with babyfaces like DC. People would pay to see him get knocked out by Francis, but he's not worth 8 figures. 7 of his last 9 fights went the distance. He can live off of that Gustaffson fight for a while, but we wouldn't see him get into wars at heavyweight. Dana's right to lowball him.
I agree with you overall except for the part about his only drawing power being the DC rivalry. I might be off on this but isn’t he the only UFC fighter who has never been defeated? His one loss was a DQ from murdering that deaf guy (Matt Hamil?) with 12-6 elbows (after he was already knocked out iirc). I think a decent amount of people watch to see him keep the streak alive or see him get dropped. Otherwise you’re on the money. He used to be exciting and it was fun to watch and see how he was going to finish whoever was put in front of him, now he just fights not to lose.
I think Jon beating Bader, Rua, Jackson, Machida, Evans, Belfort, Sonnen, Gustafson, Teixera, Cormier consecutively is far and away the best 10 fight streak in ufc history. Six of those were finishes. And Jon did it in his early-mid 20s. His last fights have been boring for sure. But resume wise, no fighter deserves more respect than Jones.
Agreed, but respect and drawing power are two different things entirely. He doesn't draw the money that Connor does. That's what he thinks his barometer is and he couldn't be more wrong.
Yeah I get that, no one is even on Conor’s planet in that regard. 7 top 10 ppv buys and all of the top 5. That said it’s not like paying the GOAT like the goat is a bad thing. UFC isn’t exactly short on cash. Moot point but whatever.
Guy has been making 5 million a fighter. That's pretty good money. Especially if he's not driving ppv buys. Also, mighty mouse just got knocked out on the new One tnt show.
I understand that knees are viewed as too brutal. But it's ridiculous that guy can just stall a fight buy going to one knee. Big fan of those rules. Along those same lines.. Eddie Alvarez was dqd last night because a guy kept turning his head to try and avoid shots. Eddie just leotards punching him. Obviously back of the head is a safety issue. But guys shouldn't be able to use that to save themselves.
Big difference in what happened in the DJ fight and the Aljo one. I agree completely that you shouldn’t be allowed to stall a fight by being on a knee like Sterling was but that DJ one was brutal.
If you don't want to be kneed in the head then give up your position and actually go to the ground. Make a grounded opponent both knees, or both knees and a hand.
Ryan bader out a savage beating on the corpse of lyoto machida tonight. Would like to see Bader make another run at the UFC. He's not great but that division is pretty weak.
Terrible stoppage with a few seconds left after giving Diaz more time to survive earlier in the round.
Quick picks: Vettori by KO Yusuff by decision Marquez by decision Dern by sub Rodriguez (maybe by KO?) Miller in an upset (1st round K) Gamrot by sub Bahamondes by KO De Castro by 2nd round KO Shore by RNC Somebody gets knocked out in the Jung/Knight fight, not sure who Palatnikov in an upset Don't care about the Griffin/Saldana fight.
That was a hilarious first round Knight flails around and because he's such a muscle hamster he actually broke loose He's about to get destroyed next round
Nina Nunes has a much better record than I remembered. Lost her last fight to Suarez in 2019 but she’s beaten a shitload of the top contenders in her weight division. /random thought
Are we expecting the main event to come down to a KO or does Vettori try to take him down like Brunson
