Since the 2011 NFL draft, there are on average only 1.7 Offensive linemen with 90+ percentile athleticism scores in every category from explosiveness, speed and flexibility. The 2021 class thus far has 6 truly elite all around athletes. Beating out 2015s record of 4.
not only that, what The Banks was referring to is a textbook drinking problem. Not sure why so many people are going after him for it. if alcohol is causing problem in your life then it’s an alcohol problem. Doesn’t mean you are an alcoholic but you did choose alcohol over the better option so you have a problem with alcohol.
Agreed, gimme Mac in the 2nd-3rd all day for the Saints. Don't want to spend a 1st on him when we're pretty close. But fuck, we're pretty close except for a QB. I dunno.
Best available o lineman. Can be an interior guy or tackle. Reiff has said he’s play anywhere the team needs him. Or they could draft a tackle and play them at guard for the year or two Reiff is on the team.
Chase will have the best pro career of any that were on the Burrow LSU teams. I want Sewell if he’s available. Bengals have tried guard at OT with Williams. Moving Williams inside by getting a true OT in the second round would be my plan B if Sewell is off the board.
This is my preference. But I think Sewell will be there and they still pass in favor of Chase. He'll be great if they can keep Burrow upright. If they go Chase, it better be OL at 2 and at least one more in the top half of the draft to increase the odds of somebody hitting.
Obviously I’m no scout and have no idea how the bengals are grading each of these guys, but to me it seems like taking Sewell is a no brainer if you have him graded as a potential pro bowl tackle. I can understand fans wanting a WR because fans are short sighted, but if you have what everyone thinks is your franchise QB for 10+ years to come, protecting him is more important than a WR. Thinking a stop gap tackle signing is anything other than that is silly.
Williams played tackle all three years at Bama. RT freshman year and LT soph/junior year. I’m fine moving him to guard if we get a better tackle, but he’s not a guard.
Has Williams played well when healthy? He was a brick wall at Bama. Has to be one of the most underrated Saban players.
He was solid last year, sometimes good and other times looked like a rookie. Wouldn’t call him good or great yet, but a big part of that is he can’t stay on the field. First he missed his entire rookie year due to injury. Then this year he played the first seven games, missed two games, played three more games and missed the last four. Coaches like him a lot, he’s just got to stop getting hurt.
I’m fine with either Sewell or Chase. But the OL available in round two will be solid. Not so much for the receivers; especially since we don’t need a slot, so that rules out Rondale and maybe even Elijah Moore. I like Dyami Brown as an outside WR but 38 may be a bit early for him. If you could guarantee me they could get Sewell and Terrace Marshall I’d be all about that. Though it’s unlikely Marshall will be there.
Chase has the prototypical size and speed. Chase was the first stop for every defense and still had better stats than Jefferson.
Yeah that may be a reach to match or top Jefferson's production. If he's around Tee Higgins level that's a great rookie year
Williams is an undersized OT for the NFL. He was to be moved inside. Our tackles, drafted or FA’s, have just been so bad we couldn’t. The Bengals are 6-7 first/second round picks deep of lineman that were undersized or projects. The results of this has been pretty clear on the field.
Jim Turner, one of the worst o-line coaches in the league, is now gone. Click this thread. They should be much better as a unit with Pollack back.
Pollack should be better then Turner, but draft position is meaningless. Reiff and Williams are solid at tackle. Price is a former first round pick but is garbage. Su’a-Filo is a former second round pick but is pretty average. They definitely need to draft at least one if not two OL with their first 3 picks. Personally I just like Chase and round 2 OL more then Sewell and round 2 WR. I also don’t at think they drafted Williams with the intent of moving him to guard. He’s been the presumed LT since he was selected. If we get a better LT and move him to RT then great. I think they’d move Reiff inside to guard before Jonah.
I was more than concerned when Taylor didn’t fire the line coach after he said Hart played well. Was Turner’s contract up? Brown firing anyone he had to still pay would be a surprise. I’m hopeful for personnel/position changes. If Price is at center coaching won’t matter. Until Hopkins is back there’s a hole in the middle unless Jordan and Williams move to their right because of Sewell.
Boyd is awesome in the slot and Higgins looks promising. Need a deep threat to open up the offense though which neither of them are. Plus it’s been rumored Joe is pushing for the team to draft Chase.
He is but we still need a field stretcher who can be a one. Feels like Chase, Higgins, Boyd would be just about perfect.
After thinking more about it, the dream scenario for the Bengals is trading back with Carolina and still getting Sewell at eight (which is actually quite plausible) and picking up an additional second-rounder. Thank you for reading this post.
You got that idea from here, didn't you... https://thedraftnetwork.com/articles/2021-nfl-mock-draft-weissman-6.0
Actually no I hadn't read that one yet. I'm not sure if moving up three spots is worthy of a 2022 second-rounder as well, but I suppose if a franchise QB is involved then perhaps it makes sense. I was just thinking of teams that would want to trade up and the Panthers seem like the obvious choice. Every time I do a TDN mock the Panthers seem to trade up and take Pitts.
In dropping to 8th you risk the Lions taking Sewell at 7 and then you miss out on both Chase and Sewell.
Exactly. If that's the case then I assume the Bengals would take Waddle, Pitts, or Slater. Or Mike Brown would do Mike Brown things and take Kellen Mond.
Is this inferring that a lot of people just think Mac is the a boss? As a dolty novice I’m inclined to go Fields like many others, but if a lot of NFL types do want Jones it says something...
