No idea on what the US or cruise lines will do regarding vaccines, but I bet the islands will treat it similar to other diseases/vaccines

You can get on a cruise in Miami, but if you are coming from a yellow fever hotspot that an island like Barbados requires vaccine for, you can't get off

I was talking about actual cruises. Anything under 250 people is a completely irrelevant, tiny portion of the industry. Whatever the government decides with royal Caribbean and carnival will decide the future of the industry.

you're right, completely irrelevant, they'll absolutely just ignore what is going on with actual cruises right now

Biden admin isn’t involved. They are letting the CDC make their own recommendations.

How many times do you see a norovirus outbreak on a plane vs on a cruise

That’s why a lot of cruise companies own their own islands. That and getting all the revenue from the excursions and food and drink.

they typically own one but most go to other islands. I do think it’s very possible Royal Caribbean starts with 3 night cruises out of port Canaveral/Miami where they only stop at their private island. People want to go to Nassau though and people want to be able to do the cruises and island hop. There are major limits if they don’t go to other places. Like you said, a big reason they do it is to control all the revenue more than anything.

Ended up feeling absolutely terrible from like noon until about 4:00 or so. Laid down and napped for a couple hours in there, woke up feeling better, and by dinner time I was completely fine. Went for a run today and had no issues whatsoever. Countdown to April 16th is on!

She got to come home this evening, so I guess we really lucked out. One of the nurses came out and was talking to us about a saddle pulmonary embolism shortly after we first got there. He pulled up an image on his phone to give us a better idea and it was pretty terrifying.

I wonder how much everyone not enjoying life impacts that? How often is the trigger for someone to take their life watching others around them happy? Not saying I know either way more thinking out loud. I do believe that mental health declined during the pandemic but maybe some of those triggers that make someone get to the point of committing suicide weren't there as frequently.

Looks like you can tell OSHA wasn’t at full strength at a glance, as well as watching Republicans roll back safety guidelines as they take power, but that’s a more dubious conclusion

Got my 2nd dose of Pfizer this past Friday. Arm was a lot more sore vs 1st dose (no soreness with 1st) and I was pretty tired the next day. The fatigue only lasted for that next day though and other than that I was totally fine and feel great.

    5/5 Stars. Would vaccinate again.

I guess I see them in the same "category" of things Im queazy about. On one hand, trapped in a tight space with 100 people (which you can also refer to as a 'wedding') or in the other case, ability to spread out from a lot of people (and assuming the ships aren't going to be at capacity right away, which I guess I could be wrong) but its the same people over 4 days. I don't feel great about either yet (which sucks because I love cruises and we were planning a Disney cruise last summer) but its just interesting to me that methods of "traveling with a lot of strangers" people just feel wildly differently about without people actually knowing the scientific risk in either case.

    Anyway, could just be me.

I had no real effects of my first pfizer shot. My manager got his first moderna shot Friday and said it wiped him out Saturday morning until evening. Said he had a 103 degree fever, could barely move his legs. But once he kicked the fever, he was fine.

He did have COVID a week + ago, and I believe those symptoms are pretty common if you get the shot after being positive.

Schools opened completely, restaurants are up to 50% (which is being flaunted), people in red counties have completely stopped doing anything, people are traveling for spring break at what appears to be non-Covid levels, and the variants are here. It's a race to get enough people vaccinated before the death tolls ramp up.

B117 is really beating up younger people, getting them sicker and sending them to the hospital but the good news is that the vaccines are keeping it away. Hopefully even though we see a surge in cases and hospitalizations, the deaths don't follow suit because the most vulnerable are vaccinated.

Wife has been having trouble getting any appt. anywhere so she gave me her login info for our health care provider so I can try in the middle of the night since I keep late hours. 12:30 this morning I was able to score her a Friday appt. with CVS for a Pfizer shot. Had to schedule a second appt. for a day we're in Hawaii, but I figure we'll be able to reschedule (I did check Lahaina's CVS for second dose availability, with no luck - probably don't want to risk side effects while vacationing anyway, plus first shot gives 80% protection so we can lick the counter with relative impunity when we order shave ice)

I just really don’t like the messaging coming from the government and media right now. I feel like the scare tactics for each new strain are just continuing to erode trust and hurting the efforts to get people vaccinated instead of helping

I used to push back on the big bad media narrative, but starting to agree a bit that the nuances are being poorly explained and headlines are being a bit over exaggerated.

That said, this GMA segment generally had the right tone - now is not the time to let our guard down. I just wish they ended it with a few words on our vaccine trajectory, the goal, and what will allow us again to go back to more normalcy.

I think the most shocking thing for me is they are going with "vaccine passports" as their message. Usually the right is very good at making something small sound like it's the worst thing ever. Probably most successfully with something like "illegal aliens" and "illegals".

Cant believe they weren't able to come up with "Vaccine Freedom Restrictors" or "Vaccine Government Tracking Program" or some other nonsense. Vaccine passports sounds totally reasonable.

I don't get the issue with Vaccine Passports. Showing you've been vaccinated is a lot different than wearing/showing something to show race/religion *shrug*

Like, it doesn't seem unethical to not allow somebody in your country who can't prove they've been vaccinated from a deadly virus, versus not allowing them in because they're Muslim or Black or whatever other bullshit.
