Hope Hubert has all the success in the world, he is a Tar Heel and will back him.

How long does he have to turn program around? Could easily see this program going the way of the depths Indiana/UCLA (sans this years run)

i think with how well liked he is and being the first black coach at unc, he’s gonna have a fairly long leash. only way it’s only a 3 year thing is if he steps down

the foundation's there for a really strong year two, if he's able to hit the ground running in recruiting then the roster should at least be there pretty quickly imo

Hubert was beaming on Game Day, kept talking about continuing with the UNC style but putting his own personality/stamp on it and acknowledging the changing landscape with how much more skilled players are now particularly in the post

I remember him being adamant a year or two before he joined the staff that he didn't want to get into coaching, guess we'll see if he truly wants to go this route now as I'm sure he'll be able to land somewhere

that close to his opening remarks, emphatically talking about how Carolina's gonna be there every day, practice, play, etc gave me legit chills

think we can at least check off the recruiting box because that passion when he speaks is invigorating, and it's 100% genuine

it is also really refreshing to not have to automatically pencil in leaky for 30 mins a game because we now have a coach who won't keep beating that dead horse.

he might be a leaky apologist too but for the time being i can believe that he is not

Hello friends. Can’t find the Charlotte thread (pretty sure there is one), so I figured I’d ask here. Wife and I are traveling to Myrtle Beach and are stopping in Charlotte this afternoon and staying the night. Going to visit a famous disc golf course tomorrow morning but have no plans as far as dinner and breweries tonight so looking for recommendations. Thanks in advance. We are staying at the Residence Inn downtown.

val venis I prefer Merchant & Trade's rooftop over Fahrenheit. Hold on I made a post somewhere with a bunch of restaurant recommendations that I'll go find.

edited with old posts (these may be a little out of date but still reasonably accurate):

    Drinks
I'll throw out a few recommendations for bars since I am an alcoholic and work uptown:

High end: Merchant & Trade, Nuvole, Fahrenheit. All rooftops, all expensive as hell (M&T charges $12 for a can of local IPA)

Others: Dandelion, 204 North, Fitzgerald's, Ri Ra's, believe it or not Brixx on 6th street actually has a great selection of craft drafts

As others have mentioned, the Epicenter will be a shit show (per usual) so I'd steer clear from that.

Places you might be referred to but I would avoid:
Duckworth's: Service blows during a normal lunch rush and is mediocre bar food. The Cellar is a different animal and is probably decent but you'll likely need reservations.
Rock Bottom: "Charlotte's oldest brewery" or some dumb shit. They've been brewing beers uptown for a long time but they still haven't figured out how to make a good one.
5Church: One of the older "foodie" type restaurants in uptown; has gone way downhill in the last 3 to 4 years and I'm actually surprised they are still in business.

    Dinner

    American
    Dandelion
    - Mainly small plates but they're solid. Really good place to grab lunch or brunch. They have a good Italian sandwich and a really good grilled cheese & tomato soup.
204 North - Steer clear for dinner, the entire menu changes and it gets a lot more pricey than what it should be. For lunch, I'm a big fan of the fried chicken sandwich and the hot chicken sliders.
Cowbell - Bunch of different burger options and a ton of whisky to choose from.
Essex - Pretty good Mediterranean-style place. I'm a fan of the lamb kefta burger and the schwarma wrap. Would steer clear of the Korean tacos, been underwhelmed. Also have good salads.

    Barbeque
Don't even bother uptown. Gun to my head I guess I'd pick City Smoke but it's way too expensive for what it is and you'd be just as well off going to Queen City Q but neither of them are great.

    Seafood
    Fin & Fino -
Newer restaurant and I've been a pretty big fan the couple times I've gone. Crab cake sandwich is bangers.
Sea Level - Food is solid but pricey for what it is. I'd recommend Fin & Fino over this if you're looking for seafood. That being said, they normally run $1 oysters from 5-7 (I think every day, but maybe just weekdays). Figured it's worth a call out. If you do end up here, don't order the trout risotto, honestly one of the worst risottos I've ever been served. Some of their other food is (shrimp po boy) is good.

    Asian
    Basil
    - People go nuts for this place. It's solid Thai cuisine and the best Thai uptown to my knowledge but don't expect it to be the best you've ever had.
Room 112 - Chinese/Sushi that's always packed out for lunch.
    Fujo - Similar to R112

    Steakhouses
If you're trying to go for a good steak you have options but you've probably heard of/been to most of them. We have a Cap Grille/Ruth's Chris/BLT/Flemings/Mortons all within uptown. Of the 5, I'm partial to Cap Grille and BLT. If you want an authentic old school steakhouse experience you can scoot down to Beef N Bottle which is probably an $8 uber from uptown. Just a tip if you do BnB, in my opinion their temperatures are one notch cooler than what you'd get at a normal steakhouse. I.e. if you normally order medium rare, you may want to order medium to get a similar temp at BnB.

There's plenty of other places I'm probably forgetting here, but that should give you a good start. Will echo the other poster than Seoul Food Meat Co is a really good time but I'd say to be prepared for a wait.

we recruited him pretty hard out of high school so there is some familiarity. if he can play the 3, then i can see it. him with kerwin and caleb makes a possible bacot/kessler pairing work. can slot down to the 4 as well.

i just didnt think he did much at uva. maybe this means leaky isnt going to be gifted a starting spot again

    give me a 2/3 of Harris/Walton

I know Ant didn't shoot a high percentage this year, but he has the kind of simple/compact form that can allow for a decent jump in that regard, actually reminds me a bit of Joel's stroke, plus he was probably our best guy at attacking the basket and obviously brings that defensive energy

scrimmage recap, I imagine we'll actually get some decent videos since it was open to fans

    * There were maybe 100 recruits and fans in attendance for Saturday’s open scrimmage, although more filed in later in the morning.

    * Full scrimmage setup. Team went through brief individual/position drills before some skeletons drills on one end of the field with trench warfare (1-on-1) on the other end.

    * Chris Collins and Kaimon Rucker stood out among the defensive front in 1-on-1 drills against the offensive line. Their quickness and initial burst consistently allowed them to gain position at the point of attack before working the OL into the backfield. A name we’ve heard recently as stepping up is sophomore Kevin Hester, who has clearly developed physically. He was effective in pushing his offensive line counterpart around consistently each snap. Good strength inside. You can also tell a difference in a player like Clyde Pinder Jr, who is a load at nose tackle and a freshman like Jahvaree Ritzie. Chalk that up to the wonders of a full year of S&C. Ritzie has good size and quickness, but he was not overpowering at the point of attack in the 1-on-1 drills. That’s to be expected for a kid who should be in high school right now. Huge upside.

    * Pretty clear separation at QB in this scrimmage: Howell and Criswell were a clear 1-2 followed by Maye and then Boaz. I’ve watched Criswell twice this spring and I continue to be impressed. He is the best athlete of the bunch, he seems to glide when he runs, he has a pretty good feel for staying in the pocket until the last minute before scrambling and he’s got a strong arm. A couple of passes that may have been a bit behind his receiver, but no glaring bad throws that I recall.

    * Josh Henderson stole the show among the running backs in the scrimmage. He had several good inside runs, but did most his damage on two plays: the first by slicing through the right side of the offensive line and running down the right sideline for a 55-yard TD. Henderson delivered an incredible block downfield to free up Maye to pick up an extra 10 yards on a scramble and then he burst through the defense late for a 45-yard TD run, although it was called back due to a block in the back that appeared to have occurred away from the action.

    * We once again saw a lot of traditional 3-4 fronts with a nose at the 0 and two ends at the 4i. Jahlil Taylor appears to have made quality strides this offseason and is providing a solid option behind Vohasek at nose with Pinder and KBJ battling as well. I can’t say enough about Myles Murphy and Kevin Hester. Those two individuals are full grown men. Credit the offensive line with holding its own. I’m not sure there was winner in today’s scrimmage.

    * Left guard Ed Montilus playing with a club on right hand.

    * The scrimmage paired Blues vs. Blues, Whites vs. Whites and a period of Grays vs. Grays late.

    * We’re providing a scrimmage depth chart just for reference purposes. There is no set depth chart at this point in time and there were plenty of rotations throughout the scrimmage, so consider this a working two-deep (especially considering several key veterans did not play much, such as Jeremiah Gemmel, Sam Howell, Brian Anderson, Tomon Fox, etc).

    Highlight Plays:
    * McMichael breaks up a deep pass from Howell, followed by Conley breaking up a pass to Walston to force a 3-and-out on the opening possession.
    * Criswell completed a 50-yard bomb to Olsen down the seam and then the sophomore quarterback threw a bullet on a 5-yard TD pass to Chandler sneaking out of the backfield.
    * Howell hits Green on a slant over the middle that may have gone for a 40-yard score, but thud rules ended the play.
    * Conley blitzes off the left side to sack Howell
    * Howell connects with Green on another slant on 4th-and-3 for first down
    * Howell moves around in the pocket due to good defensive pressure and finds Walston in the right flat for a 5-yard TD pass.
    * Grayson Atkins made both of his field goal attempts from 22 yards out.
    * Hollins beat Gosnell at the goal line for an interception on a back-shoulder 10-yard throw from Maye.
    * Mack Brown midway through the scrimmage: “You have had no flags so far. Great team discipline.”
    * Criswell throws a deep vertical to J.J. Jones, who runs past Hollins and extends to make a diving grab, but the ball was just off his fingertips
    * RaRa Dilworth read a run play correctly, hit the gap and dropped Elijah Green at the LOS on 3rd down for a big solo tackle.
    * Ritzie forces Criswell from the pocket and is credited with a sack.
    * Hopper beats Baker off the right edge to sack Criswell.
    * Howell takes advantage of busted coverage to connect with a wide-open Morales for a 50-yard gain.
    * Chandler bounces outside to avoid a tackle and picks up a 12-yard gain for a first down near the goal line, prompting Jay Bateman to explode on his defense.
    * Howell keeps on zone read at the 5-yard line to score off right side.
    * Dillworth and Ritzie combine for a TFL on an inside run play.
    * Maye misfires on a couple of throws into the end zone to end a red zone possession.
    * On 4th-and-1, Fox forces Criswell to scramble and the QB scampers for the first down.
    * John Copenhaver makes a tough catch over Chapman for a 20-yard TD on a dime by Criswell. * Ritzie slices through the third-team offensive line for a late sack.
    * Gosnell lays out for a 20-yard grab on a crossing route from Maye.
    * Tough run by Elijah Green for a TD at the goal line, which brought Longo out to celebrate with the red-shirt freshman running back.
    * The defense had to make a stop on 4th-and-long to end the scrimmage and instead gave up a first down on a swing pass from Boaz to Green. The offense scored two plays later to end the scrimmage as Boaz connected with Will Crowley on short out to right size of end zone for the score.

    Additional Notes

    * Running backs were rotating often with Ty Chandler getting a majority of the reps with the 1s. When it came to running plays, however, the most impressive back was clearly Josh Henderson. He showed the most speed and had an impressive burst on multiple plays that went for over 20 yards, including a 40-yard touchdown run that was brought back because of a block in the back penalty that did not affect the play.

    * Chandler’s most impressive play came on a run that was designed to go off the left edge, but he was met by two defenders. Rather than take a tackle for loss, he quickly bounced around both guys before they could get their hands on him and he continued to pick up the first down. Mack Brown and Jay Bateman have constantly stressed a desire to have guys in the front seven who can put pressure on the quarterback and get to the backfield with sheer power and force. Throughout the scrimmage, three guys that did that the most were freshman Jahvaree Ritzie and sophomore Myles Murphy on the defensive line, and then freshman linebacker Rara Dillworth. One defensive play that stands out was on 3rd-and-1, Murphy and Ritzie immediately busted through the offensive line to disrupt the HB dive to allow Dillworth to fly in and swallow freshman running back Caleb Hood.

    * When Brown called Josh Downs UNC’s No. 1 receiver, he wasn’t lying. The defensive backs did a good job covering the quick sophomore receiver, but he was still able to find holes in the coverage to give whichever quarterback was throwing him the ball a chance. It was obvious the DBs ramped it up at a certain point to stop getting beat by Downs, but that opened up space for some other receivers to get involved like Garrett Walston’s touchdown catch or Antoine Green’s 15-yard catch over the middle. On both plays, Downs was sent into motion as a deception that left Green and Walston one-on-one with room to make plays.

    * Both backup quarterbacks Jacolby Criswell and Drake Maye had their moments, but there is still a significant difference in tempo on offense when they were running the show compared to Sam Howell. That’s not to say that isn’t expected since Howell is going to be an early Heisman candidate, but Criswell received delay of game penalties on back-to-back plays and Maye threw an interception at the goal line because he telegraphed his throw to the corner and Daedae Hollins picked him off.

    * With Gemmel sidelined for the scrimmage in order to give young guys reps, Eugene Asante was the general on the field. He was calling plays, pointing out motion and showing a massive growth in leadership. The other linebacker that shined today was Dillworth, who was using his speed to make plays and showed off a rather quick twitch to decide whether to get into the backfield or drop back in coverage.

    * Howell was not able to just sit back and pick the defense apart. He was pressured often and had to get rid of the ball quickly on multiple occasions. His receivers helped him out by getting open and finding holes in the coverage like when he found tight end Kamari Morales for a 30+ yard play down field.
