Could be mixed in with that overall about 500k increase in deaths. And yeah would be interesting to see a study of how mental health was affected last year, even with programs trying to combat it.
Even WWE, whose audience is probably at least 50% anti-vax (probably closer to 75%), is running vaccine commercials. If you know anything about them you know it's entirely self serving. But I'm ok with it.
super duper cool headline sounds like it's total bullshit and not related to the covid vaccine but it sounds like we're close to an hiv vaccine
Norwegian Cruise Lines says that all guests and crew will need proof of vaccination no less than two weeks prior to sail date.
I’ve been unable to secure an appointment as of yet here in AZ. Signed fiancée and I up for a Saturday volunteer shift to secure dose 1. If it isn’t a shitfest, we’ll likely do a second volunteer shift for the second dose just to keep em flowing, even though it wouldn’t be required to receive dose 2.
was reading some of the comments around this and saw that Obama gave $25 Million to this little startup called Moderna in 2013 to conduct mRNA research then gave $125 Million to the Pentagon in 2015 to do the same
It was a 5 year grant worth $5M per year. So $25M total over 5 years. That same year they got $240M upfront cash from AstraZeneca. https://xconomy.com/boston/2013/10/02/moderna-snags-25m-darpa-grant-fight-pandemics-mrna-drugs/ It wasn't this "little startup". They had already raised a lot of money and were well known to the biotech community
i think he is saying the twitter crazies are using that as proof that obama and the rest of the deep state had been planting the seeds for their mind control vaccine for years now
Got my second shot today and I can suddenly feel myself becoming more of a centrist (rightwinger) every second. All I wanna do is defend banks and capitalism OMG its happening
it is more of a response to the bs Trump spews that if it wasn’t for his ‘OWS’ that we would be waiting 5 years for a vaccine. The investment started before him and if Hillary or anyone else was POTUS the investment and urgency would have been the same and probably better
NY didn’t post results yesterday at least On worldometer, they’ve been one of the biggest states pushing in the wrong direction. It hasn’t gone crazy either, hopefully vaccine distribution is stymying the new variants
the investment by industry was before the government (and magnitudes larger) and the investment by the government was before industry. it's a flywheel and in the U.S. it works really well for biotech.
The fact is that's how it's being compared. If it's not supposed to be compared like that, how is it? And where is that information being shared? https://www.webmd.com/vaccines/covid-19-vaccine/news/20201214/closer-look-at-three-covid-19-vaccines "What percentage of people did it protect from getting infected in clinical studies? Pfizer 95% Moderna 94.1% Johnson & Johnson 66.1% globally; 72% in the U.S.; 86% effective against severe disease" Those are the same stats my employer shared with the company in their monthly townhall meetings. I'm sure many other people and companies are looking at the same data. When I went to get my shot the web site said it was Pfizer and I was like ok cool and I scheduled it and got my 1st shot already. If it had said Johnson&Johnson, I would have done it anyway but I'm pretty sure I would have first looked around a little bit to see if a Pfizer or Moderna was available elsewhere. Just being honest.
what about differences between the two processes/approaches, in general terms. If I’m not mistaken j&j is using a deactivated virus vs the others using mRNA
Yes, they are totally different approaches. But that’s not why they can’t be compared. It was mentioned just after the post that was quoted, but the trial endpoints were measured differently and the variant levels present were totally different.
it’s ok moderna and j&j guys us pfizer bros totally aren’t laughing at your inferior shot behind your backs lol
I’m asking what are the actual general differences you would expect. I’m a beer salesman. People ask about difference between ales and lagers. It’s just top or bottom fermenting yeast at warmer or colder temps respectively, differences are subtle, but people think if it’s hoppy it’s an ale or if it’s light its a lager. Not really true at all, but that’s the perception from people who don’t really know. Both can be lighter or darker, not affected by the yeast. Both can be hoppy, not affected by the yeast. Any layman’s guide on what the basic differences are? or are the subtle as well.
Maybe, by analogy, it would be like the differences in making scotch in Ireland vs in Kentucky. The climates are different, you can choose how long they age in casks, etc. Like, sure, you CAN roughly sorta say "yeah the product get you drunk " but where you decide to end the scotch-making process isnt exactly, rigorously comparable between the two products because of all the other factors. That is, relying on the numbers to assay performance is a bit of a fool's errand because it can't be boiled down and controlled for anyway to get a one-to-one correspondence Vvv ahh i read his question as asking for a diff between the performances in the trials between just pfizer and moderna lol
If it’s too sciency tell me, but the mRNA vaccines like Moderna and Pfizer/BioNTech are the blueprints for your cells to make a virus protein so you form an immune response against it without actually making the virus itself. The j&j vaccine is giving you a different virus that has the same aforementioned Covid virus protein studded on it and it tells your cells to make more so again, you make an immune response against the Covid virus protein without actually making the virus.
and characteristic wise, in general, does one tend to make you react differently post shot or post exposure or are they roughly the same
I read somewhere that T cell response is adequate after one dose of j and j but for moderna and Pfizer it wasn’t significant until after the second shot (which was part of the argument for not going to a first shot emphasis for everyone). Is that accurate?
The relevance of T cells to Covid protective immunity is completely unknown in humans. It’s probably useful but who knows. But yes, I think the general trend you are suggesting is directionally correct.
follow tech. about a month after shut down, earliest projection was June 2021 for return to office. Facebook and Salesforce announced last week they're going back in June. Lyft not too far behind in September.
