Study shows listening to Heavy Metal music is good for your health

Here’s a list of things that are commonly associated with stress relief. Candles, soothing sounds, tranquil images of nature, and heavy metal music?

According to a new study conducted by the Vera Clinic, heavy metal is one of the best genres of music for improving your health. Let’s take a test. Write down how you’re feeling, listen to the song below, and then write down how you feel after listening to it.

Who knew a song called “Raining Blood” could make you feel so calm? Findings from the study showed that heavy metal music can lower blood pressure, heart rate, and help reduce feelings of anxiety.

The Turkish hair transplant and rhinoplasty practice recruited 1,540 volunteers between the ages of 18-65 to take part in non-verbal reasoning tests that were designed to produce lower stress levels.

Participants listened to a curated playlist made up of songs from various music genres. Volunteers were fitted with heart rate and blood pressure monitors as their health information was recorded throughout the study.

Researchers found heavy metal music to be the second most effective genre at reducing anxiety as 89% of volunteers reported a decrease in blood pressure. Additionally, their heart rates dropped by an average of 18%.

“In terms of heavy metal, I’d observe that angry music can help listeners process their feelings. And as a result lead to greater well-being,” Doctor Ömer Avlanmış, the leader of the study said.

80’s pop music was the leading genre as 96% of participants reported lower blood pressure while listening to the playlist. Additionally, 36% of participants saw a decrease in heart rate while listening to the genre.

MetalSucks published the full findings of the study and it shows that Techno was the least effective genre in reducing anxiety. 78% of respondents reported an increase in blood pressure while 9% saw an increase in heart rate. Classical music, which has long been associated with anxiety reduction, was right in the middle with 73% of participants recording a decrease in blood pressure and 13% of participants reporting a decrease in heart rate.

I just pre-ordered the album. Spectral Lore is one of my favorite acts.

I, Voidhanger (the label) has some great releases coming out. Also new albums from Mare Cognitum and Esoctrilihum coming soon. All one man bands, no less.

i don't know how to classify it.

it reminds me most of late 90s melodic hardcore more than anything, like Poison The Well.

there's definitely some black metal in there too.

Definitely. Alcest like atmospheric stuff. Then heavy hardcore influence like poison the well or converge. Checks my boxes.

listening to that incredible Minenwerfer album again and i'm thinking about why these types of guys even do this stuff. there's no way they made money off of this album. i don't think they tour. they're super talented musicians toiling in a genre that barely anyone cares about

They definitely do it because they like it though. Almost none of these guys are going to make much money doing this. But I’m sure glad they do

they do violate my #1 merch rule with a couple of items, though: NO LYRICS. and in general keep any text outside of the band logo to the absolute minimum. that shirt above with the album title is done tastefully but that seems pretty rare

4:30 to 6:00 is classic Helloween. Slow it down, speed it back up, soaring chorus, key change. Love it.

i get pretty strong NS vibes from that Minenwerfer band, even though they write about WWI.

seems like air cover for some guys from California to display iron crosses and stahlhelms on their merch.

also, their label is called Purity Through Fire.

its gonna be a no for me, dog.

i slept on this Escotrilhum album when it first came out. thought the shit would be too weird, but i was mistaken.

really bizarre (in a good way) black metal with odd rhythms and eastern-sounding melodies.

Do their lyrics lean that way or something? The iron cross predates Nazi Germany by like 60 years at least and their albums all have some WW1 theme

I'm also not sure what "their label is called Purity Through Fire" is supposed to mean

    honestly? probably.

i’m so tired of the vein of fascist sympathy that has infected extreme music. there’s no excuse for views like that, and the bands that say “they’re not political” versus condemning something as universally loathsome as Nazism don’t deserve a spot in my rotation.

there’s a lot of good music out there to replace them.

i don’t know anything about Minenwerfer or whatever. but i have enough experience to know where there’s smoke, there’s often fire.

it just seems like a pretty big reach to assume they're some nazi band because they have a ww1 gimmick and use imagery from that period. if that's "smoke" then the german army of 2021 would also have "smoke"

this is from some interview with minenwerfer in 2014 and it's not great http://usbmspromo.blogspot.com/2014/01/interview-with-minenwerfer.html. i bought their entire catalog on bandcamp like 6 months ago :|

Q: A lot of times bands who choose to use WW2 or WW1 topics and themes in their music often get labeled racist, fascist or an NSBM band. I read somewhere that you guys have had to deal with this issue and at times have been labeled NSBM. My question is, how has Minenwerfer handled this issue, also do you guys have an opinion on whether or not NSBM should be associated with the BM music genre?

A: Most people are ignorant and jump to conclusions, especially if the see an iron cross, eagles, etc. in the imagery of a band. In the past, various allegations have led Kriegshammer writing various blogs and postings defending the band and the imagery, and usually some sort of background on the symbols or flags being used. It isn't our fault that most people don't know history, and are (especially in America) uneducated or undereducated. Then again, if our subject matter did have to do with WWII, that doesn't mean we condone the actions of the past. Why does a band like Hail of Bullets or Marduk get to write song after song about Rommel and panzer divisions, yet no one thinks anything of it? As far as NSBM goes, we're not a part of it, but believe that whatever a band wants to say in their music is their own prerogative.

I agree that being WWI themed shouldn’t immediately mean a band is NSBM. History is great material for music, especially those eras. I’ve read lots of books about them. But there’s a difference between writing about history and glorifying assholes or pushing fucked up ideologies. which is what those bands do. And god damn guys, if you say you’re not a part of it then strongly denounce it. It’s not hard.

Highly competent death metal that worships early 90s Bolt Thrower. They write songs about ice. It’s wonderful.

new Wode album is out. blackened death metal, catchy riffs.

this album is less melodic and more abrasive to me than their last releases.

like Dissection if they had more dissonance.
