Not sure but the color guy is Dave Starman, we made fun of him during the WJC as well. https://www.eliteprospects.com/player/124792/dave-starman
Just a few minutes away from longest college hockey game ever. 5 Minnesota hockey teams advance to the final 8. Bemidji eliminated. UMD and SCSU still have a chance to make it 2 or 3 along with the winner of Minnesota/Mankato State.
BTW this is the least talented team UMD has had in a while. Their defensive structure makes Jacques Lemaire jealous.
It was always going to end on a garbage goal, but I feel so bad for that UND goalie. Scheel will never forgive himself, but it’s not his fault.
Sure but they had a screenshot of it that made it clear. Not like one of the situations where it’s in between frames and you have to make an inference.
He’s got another 1-2 years of college hockey. Not like this was the championship game or end for him. And it looked tipped.
Full possession vs not full possession. (haven’t seen the other offsides but that’s what they were saying in this one) UMD player definitely didn’t have full possession and was definitely offside.
Welp, that one is going to hurt for awhile. Didn't plan on being at Scheels Arena for over 6 hours today. Had so many chances but UMD has alligator blood when the calendar turns to March and April. 5 overtimes and 142 minutes and 13 seconds of hockey. Such a crazy game, after the first ten minutes of the first overtime it seemed like we were hanging on for the last 10 minutes and the entire 2nd overtime and having played the night before while UMD had the Covid bye was having an effect...Somehow UND seemed to regain energy and had the better of play for the 3rd and 4th overtime, hit iron 2-3 times and couldn't quite get to loose pucks on rebounds. Good luck to UMD....they are the Champs until someone takes it from them. Good day for Coach Sandelin and family as his son got the game winner in overtime for Minnesota State Mankato as well. They have now won 9 tournament games in a row and have also won 9 NCAA Tournament overtime games in a row dating back to 1985. Shit.
They are throwbacks back to the 1960's. I think it is just for this year that they are wearing them - it's based off of it being the 100th year of Gopher hockey. I think the jerseys are fine outside of the players that are captains (the placement of the C/A is awkward as hell). The breezers look like inflated basketball shorts though.
Northeastern men have seen like 1/5 of their roster enter the portal in the past ten days. One-time transfer exception gonna be utilized by a bunch of dudes once it goes through for Men's Ice Hockey
College hockey is a dumb sport. That said, it would be nice if they overhauled officiating so teams with skill aren’t penalized for not playing like Neanderthals.
At least you got to play :/ What a disappointment for Minny though. Choke away a B1G title and crash out in the NCAA.
What exactly happened to him? 12 years ago he was the hottest coach in the country and about to be National Champion (until the monumental collapse). I didn’t even realize he wasn’t at Miami yet because they lost relevance.
He’s a piece of shit, which works when you’re winning. Once it went sideways for him, he wasn’t worth the headache. theregionsitter did I miss anything
Miami never recovered from the death of ccha playing all teams out west has been awful for us, Rico also lost it on the cruiting trail. He just wasn’t closing anymore and team got bad quickly. I believe so did his demeanor
A good friend of mine's son played at Miami and while he loved his experience in Oxford, this is pretty accurate. Rico can build a program though and might be a good fit to get St. Thomas started and pretty competitive in the CCHA fairly quickly.
Going to be an interesting off season in Grand Forks. Lost 8 seniors likely. Kawaguchi signed a free agent deal with Dallas and Kierstad signed with Florida. In the last couple days we also lost our Junior Goalie, Scheel who signed with Dallas...Junior d-man JBD and sophomore forward Pinto both signed with Ottawa and will be in their lineup as soon as they clear quarantine. Hoping there are no more early departures as Weatherby and Sanderson are both being pressured to sign by their draft teams.
Our top 4 D were all freshman and sophomores. Assuming they are all back (not a given) that is a good start.
Watched Gophs quite a bit this year. Probably second best D-corps to UND talent wise...the biggest difference being the experience of Kierstad and JBD for UND which is gone now. If Faber, Johnson, and LaCombe all are back they will be very solid....I should count Staudacher as well as he is solid and also older. Sanderson, Kleven, and Frisch are very solid and indications are Sanderson is coming back....I think he is a generational talent and could win the Hobey next year....he left fans and opponents shaking their heads the last 10-12 games of the year as his confidence grew.
Koster was the one I was thinking of as #4. He was very solid for an undersized 19 year old. Staudacher was dependable and his 2 years of age show.
My understanding is the Gophers entered the season with a lot of hard earned immunity but it was all for naught.
I’m gonna need you to define generational talent. You just put him in a group with Nick Lidstrom and Bobby Orr
It literally could’ve taken 9 days in Fargo to get this thing done in a bubble. Sweet sixteen and elite 8 weekend 1. Frozen Four and Championship weekend 2. Done.
Apparently the Horse Shoe is welded in UMD's ass at this point Good Point. I would put him with any of the most talented players to come out of the college ranks in the last 20-25 years.
I am pulling for St. Cloud. Have a few friends that went to school there and a good group of people I have met when going to UND games in St. Cloud that we usually hang out with pre and post game at Howies and at the conference tournament in the Twin Cities. Would be happy for them as they have definitely had some great teams that didn't get it done.
