In, my folks are going to be in the large SUV market soonish and my dad really wants to go EV but range is a big thing. I'll be curious how things advance in the next year or so.

What large SUV electric options are there?
I know chevy made the hummer EV, but I think it's the small hummer
Are there others I didn't know about?

The Mach-E seems to be doing really well with people who have gotten it so far. Ford didn’t fuck something up for once.

Not sure. They are hoping Ford and GM release something.

An electric Navigator would be ideal but I don't see that coming anytime soon.

    It's mid size at best
It's listed as like 196 inches long
My wife's buick enclave is like 204 and it sure as hell is classified as a mid-sized SUV

When someone says they are in the large SUV market I assume they are talking about something like a suburban

I know GM was making a hybrid full size suv in a Tahoe or suburban, but I'm not sure if they still are
Guy I know had a hybrid Tahoe that got over 20 MPG, which I thought was pretty impressive at the time for a full size suv

Idc about multiple threads. Just saying that all EV's have been discussed in there for a while. If someone is looking for EV info, it's in there. Kia, Ford vans, Hyundai Ioniq, and Rivian are all on the last page.

I like the idea of the EV, but I love a road trip and that is where i worry about the infrastructure
I see charging stations at a lot of random places, like breweries and such, sometimes behind gates, someone not
Is there like a way to tell Google maps you are making this trip in an EV and have it show avaliable charging stations and their distances along your route?

See, I don't want their app, or their onboard computer that will update maybe like every year or something and will stop getting updates in a couple of years when they release a new version
Tesla may be different and better, but consistency across manufacturers definitely won't be

I want Google Maps that's crowd sourced and constantly updated for info from all people, not just owners of one specific manufacturer

Been saying this for a while. Iirc the fed helped subsidize gas stations to build that initial network. Need to do the same for EV's with charging stations that work on all cars. Like a regular gas station now has multiple types of gas, including diesel. EV stations need to be able to charge all cars, not just Tesla.

Also, my favorite charging station move I've seen yet was last Saturday when we took the boy to an Easter egg hunt at a local brewery
We got their early to get a seat outside and eat lunch before the hunt at 1, brewery and pizza opened at noon
About 11:45 a Tesla rolls in and parks in the single charging station parking spot
Couple with their two kids and three dogs pile out and go claim a table, stayed till after we left at like 2
    Never plugged their car in

That kind of shit would drive me absolutely insane if I was on a trip and looking for a charging station

I really really like EVs. I'm glad more legacy car makers are starting jump on that train and put out good products. ICE are going to eventually go completely away. They are at 300+ miles on a battery, which is pretty closet to many cars. They just need to keep increasing the charging rates so it doesn't make 30+ minutes to recharge. I know they are continuously making jumps.

But, I really really hate spending money on cars. I don't see the value and typically hate them. I've had 2 cars in the last 20 years. A shitty Ford Focus my parents bought me while I was in college and my wife's old Lexus when we got her a new one.

I plan on buying a new car in '22 for my wife, I'll get her 8 year old car. I really like the Hyundai Ioniq 7, but doesn't seem to be out until 2023.

The Mach-e baffles me, purely from a brand management perspective.

    It's a small or mid-sized SUV, or at least a cross-over, idk.

With the rising popularity of electric cars, Ford could have launched a new brand rather than clouding a pedigree like Mustang. I'd argue they've protected the Mustang and Bronco historically in contrast to GM's handling of the Camaro (the 4th gen Camaro, the Transformer Camaro, the shit they put out in the 70s...) and the Blazer (another forgettable, bland crossover offering in an extremely competitive segment.)

It’s their performance brand, and the MachE is positioned as a performance crossover. I just saw a video that talked about the change in direction when Ford realized they needed to compete with Tesla’s model Y performance more than say a leaf or bolt.

    that looks pretty dumb imhv

the key to actually helping the environment is for these EVs to become affordable and practical. Hummer promoting its 150k electric Hummer isn't helping. It is just a lame luxury item.

Did not know it was positioned as a performance offering. I still hold that they could slap a mustang badge on an electric coupe and call it the “mustang Mach-e,” but a performance crossover is not aligned with what that brand has been well established to be :twocents:

The Mach-e GT rips, I agree the body style is an odd choice for a Mustang but that thing goes like hell. It's nearly 500hp and 600 some lb ft.
