Reading the tea leaves, my percentages for guys likelihood of being dealt by the TDL: Glendening: 80% Bernier: 70% Staal: 50% Merrill or Stetcher: 30% Mantha: 5% I could see us facilitating a trade with our cap space for two teams as well.
No. I mean any able-bodied player would be a upgrade at backup goalie, even a defenseman. I'll fight you right now Sir.
Yep. I don’t think there is interest in Staal, but I think Yzerman will buy him out to allow him to play for a contender because he was a good soldier. It’s a good way to buy good will with players around the league, at very little cost.
No Merrill tonight. I assume that could be trade related. Glendening is in the lineup and Greiss is in net with Bernier backing him up.
I hope we bring Merrill back, but he’s never been a guy valued very highly around the league. The fifth we are getting is from Ottawa so it’ll be near the top of the round at least.
I like the idea of having so many picks in this draft specifically. There are going to be a lot of “hidden gems” with the lack of evaluation. And I like the Red Wings scouting department. Especially in Europe.
I guess it depends on the country and league. I have heard in interviews that a lot of the men’s leagues were fine, and the best prospects played up. But a lot of the development leagues were either shortened or not played at all. I don’t want to pretend I know something I don’t though and could be wrong.
The bigger positive for us is so many teams have laid off scouts and we haven’t. Buffalo doesn’t have a scout assigned to the WHL for example.
Lashoff makes $700 k a year. We retained $1,062,500 of the Savard salary. So we got a 4th rd pick for basically a prorated portion of $362 k If my pro rated math is right we paid about $80 k for a 4th rd pick. Not a bad piece of business
I think we have two more trades in us. One for Glendening and one with salary retention. Would likely be Bernier, Staal or another move like the one we made with TB. I could see us eating half of LG’s salary to get a better pick but I don’t think it’s necessary.
In Toledo. I think the Verbeek thing is overblown. Montreal is at 49/50 contracts so they had to send someone back to keep flexibility. Yzerman likely did Verbeek a solid by bringing his nephew back to the States since they had to take someone back anyway.
I also think we probably have a deal in place to re-sign Merrill after the expansion draft, but part of that was giving him some control where he was sent.
