Please answer the poll. My gf said she's never been stopped by the police and she's in her mid 40's. Didn't know that was possible. Only count when you were driving. Being passenger doesn't count.
Literally got a ticket the day I got my license. For going 5 over in a school area. Cop pulled me over, saw I had a paper ID and said “well I’d hate to give you a ticket on your first day driving.....BUT IM GOING TO” smh.
At least 7-8 times. All very uneventful generally. Did have one dick cop give me a DL change of address citation that required a traffic court visit just to have it waived off. Still pissed about that.
3-4 times for speeding, once for expired registration. It expired in January, and I think it was Feb 2 when I was pulled over. Nice guy.
I drove a Lotus Elise to prom when I was 18. Wasn't speeding or anything but got pulled over anyway. I assume being 18 and driving a Lotus had something to do with it.
Yeah it's more than 5 now that I think about it. No seatbelt, turned right on red where I wasn't supposed to, speeding, cop just pulling you late at night to see what's up, etc
Ive been pulled over twice and issued a citation for both. One for failure to yield to a cop when he rounded a corner doing over 100 and he nearly ran into the back of me. Just unfortunate timing. And once for not wearing my seatbelt properly cause i had the belt tucked under my arm. I was also issued a ticket for failure to control speed after a wreck on an icy stretch of road. Im still bitter about that one.
My best/worst story of being pulled over: Driving home from work I get stopped as my tags were expired by 1 day. Totally valid and my fault. Cop was the biggest dick I’ve ever encountered. I was respectful the entire time. He tells me my two options are to leave the car parked where it is on the side of the road or for him to take me to jail and have the car towed. I say that’s fine I’ll get someone to come pick me up. As he gets ready to leave he says he’s going to drive by later and if the car is gone he will come to my house and arrest me. One of the most bizarre experiences I’ve had.
I can only remember being pulled over twice for speeding. I've also been in two minor fender benders where we had to call the cops to get a report, but not sure that falls into what you're asking.
Probably more than 5 times but not more than 10 or so Every time being pulled over in college they would give a verbal warning that I needed to update my address on my license since I wasn't technically living at my dad's address across the state Like I was gunna get it updated to the dorm address or whichever house I was living in a year at a time
Five traffic tickets, none in the last 14 years Did have the police show up at my door as a senior in high school responding to an assault with a deadly weapon call because somebody thought I tried to run down a school crossing guard
three in 19 years of driving. one for speeding- got a ticket. one for not using a turn signal- got a warning. one for expired license plate- got a warning and notice that I would receive a fine if I didn't renew the plate within a specified time.
Ill ask about this particular ticket but when my brother first became a cop one of the oddest things he told me was that in TX there are only 2 tickets a cop can issue that they cant take you to jail for. Open container and speeding.
2 times, no tickets. Did get a ticket after I ran into the back of a 4-Runner, and smashed my front end all to shit.
Easily in the 20’s. Multiple arrests etc from traffic stops. Most I’ve deserved but I’ve been pulled over, arrested and then just let out of jail multiple times without a ticket or charge
3 times, all in 2013 for speeding, got warnings all 3 times. Wife apparently still mad as every time she's been pulled over in the past she got tickets.
4 times that I can recall. Twice for speeding, once for an expired registration that I didn’t realize when I was like 19 and another for a seat belt on campus where I’m quite positive the cop was just trying to be a dick. Only got a ticket once though.
Hmm I got a minute so let me think about this DUI in Foley, AL at like 18. Spent a night in jail. Jail clerk went to get McDonald's and brought me some back. Mom shook her head when she walked in to get me and I was eating breakfast with the cop ladies. Tossed out and not on record. Pulled over for being drunk at maybe 19 but they let me call my parents to pick me up. Was going 100+ and cops had to make a barricade as I came over a bridge bc the cop chasing me couldn't catch me. I didn't know he was there. I was in hs, so maybe 17. Friend of parents knew the judge and it went away. DUI at 21 in NOLA. That one is on my record. Pulled over for speeding at maybe 16 bc I was following a cop that didn't have his lights on. He pulled over, slowed down, got behind me, and pulled me over. Asked me how fast I was going. Said idk, how fast were you going? He didn't like that. Think I went to driving school for that one. Pulled over for no seat belt maybe 10 years ago. Pulled over for a tag that expired literally the day before maybe 10-12 years ago. Knocking on wood but it's been a while since I've been pulled over. Yes, I was a shithead in my youth. Rarely held accountable so it continued. Had a lot of fun but lucky to be alive, honestly. Probably plays a role in why I'm so adamant about police reform. I know how I was treated and then I see how others of a different skin tone are treated and it's incredibly fucked up.
8 times? Pulled over after being mistaken for another car/student who had been speeding down country roads in HS Warning for speeding in HS, 8 over in a 35 mph Pulled over in HS after pretending passenger friend was hanged by the seat belt driving down a highway home from college classes, other drivers called in and we received a warning Pulled behind at 2am in HS, was DD and friends were throwing up in back Pulled over for turning late to get into a turn only lane going left, first time driving down that road, DUI stop and breathalyzer, blew 00 Ticket for 9 over in a 70 mph in college Pulled over for brake light out two years ago Ticket for 7 over in a 30 mph two years ago
3-4 speeding tickets 1 warning for speeding 1 for failure to stop at a stop sign 1 for not wearing a seatbelt 1 for a headlight out 1 open container which should have been a DUI. Made it to the back of the cop car before my friend blew under and they let him drive us home. (so stupid, so very very stupid) 1 in Arizona for “driving too long in the fast lane”. (moron cop suspected that IowaHuskerFan3 and I were bringing meth back to Iowa lmbo) I think that’s it but might be one or two I’m forgetting.
twice but only warnings each time one a week after I got my license because I didn’t have my blinker on in the turn only lane one for going six mph over the speed limit on a west texas highway
Got pulled over a lot from 16-28ish. Quit speeding so much since then but I had 3 tickets (2 on the same road years apart in BFE) and probably 5-10 others that should have been tickets. Got out of 2 tickets going 20+ over. One was a good ole boy in BFE and one was a speed change into a town that I missed.
5. Most memorable, i was driving cross country home for summer. Was in Missouri in a driving rain storm and got pulled over for expired plates (the new tags were at my parents house in CA where I was driving). That was annoying but otherwise ok. The problem came from the fact that my car had trouble with the starter and would often not start. So of course it failed to start on the side of the highway in the pouring rain. I had some “hacks” that I would try that would sometimes work, so while we waited for the tow truck (called by the cop) to arrive, I stood out on the side of the highway trying to get it start. After an hour, with the tow truck nearly there, I got it to start and we were off again with my ticket in hand. and as soon as I got back on the road, another cop pulls up right behind me and I can see he’s running my plates since he sees they’re expired. Fortunately, since I just got a a ticket not 70 minutes earlier, he doesn’t pull me over. I was able to get to Denver without the car breaking down again and then to ca the following day.
First time was for expired plates. They were like 10 months expired. Turns out the DMV will backcharge you on the taxes. Second was for doing like 22 over in NJ on Garden State Expressway. Pissed off about that one because I was going with the flow of traffic. Guy in front of me was going faster but must have had a radar detector or Waze running.
I think about 5 times in a span of 3 years when I had my challenger. Knock on wood I haven't been pulled over in the last 3 years or so.
I'm "5 or more", but probably < 10. Been driving for 50ish years so not bad. Only one was eventful. Driving with my then-new girlfriend in the other side of the state. Cop pulls us over on the highway, runs my ID, comes back to the window and says, "step out, mr constant. We have a warrant for your arrest", and takes me off in cuffs, leaving a 19ish yo girl to figure out what to do. Despite wondering just wtf she had gotten herself into, she followed their ass to the station and figured out how to bail me out. Needless to say, I married her.
I’ve been pulled over and held at gun point because the cops confused me with someone with a warrant in Georgia. Cops keep us safe guys
I realized it was time to get a newer car when I started getting pulled over all the time in my old one. It was always because my tag light was out, even after I replaced it. It happened three times in a month.
Think I'm in the 3-4 range Once for speeding and then a couple for being lazy and letting my tags expire Worst one was in college I was driving home after a night downtown like an idiot with my music blasting, got pulled over for that, admitted I'd had a few drinks (slight understatement), but passed the roadside test and got off with a noise complaint
All five of them made that taser mistake that night. My favorite part was even after they realized they had made a mistake and scared the living shit out of a college kid heading home from studying (There were 3 college books in my passenger seat and they definitely saw them) they wouldn’t acknowledge they fucked up and continued to treat me like a fucking criminal. Like tossing my ID in my face and telling me "I'm lucky there's no extradition in Georgia" This is almost a decade ago now but every time I see one of these piece of shit pigs gun down a black person I think how easily that could’ve been me. I’m 100% terrified of cops to this day and that will never change. They’re dangerous and shouldn’t be trusted by anyone.
When I was 18 I was pulled over for an expired tag and the cop told me I had 30 days to fix it. 3 days later he pulled me over again in the middle of traffic with only houses on the side. About a half mile up was the road with my school on it. So I turned on my signal and waited for the turn and pulled into the parking lot. 3 cop cars come flying in and box me in asking me why I was running from them. That guy was a fucking cunt
Drove a lowered convertible truck in high school. Seatbelts were lap only because of the chopped roof. Got pulled over a lot for no seatbelt. No ticket because it was on just not visible.
First and only time was last summer when we had a national curfew I got pulled over like 5 minutes after. I promised her I was heading home right then and she asked where I lived and let me off and probably checked up to make sure I did go home. Pretty happy because I think the fine would have been like $500.
