Doubtful. More stressful if anything. It was super fun watching City shit their pants against Lyon last year in the QF
One thing we never saw in this whole thing was how the money was being split and who was getting the big pieces of the pie. Arsenal, Liverpool, and Spurs getting some pittance to be cannon fodder in order to bail out the Spanish and Italian clubs doesn't seem like some big win for the clubs.
Henry was the one leading this for the English clubs. I don't think he would have agreed a smaller share than anyone
Granted Arsenal was well on top of Pool under Wenger but what fucking planet are you on thinking they’re a small club and lol at Italian clubs, Juventus is only 1 who matter Liverpool is 2nd biggest club in England right now
Glazer was vice-chairman, think all 3of us were equally complicit and the payouts have already been disclosed. Every team was getting like 300 million euros just to join
#Liverpool As part of our acquisition of DetroitNole we are now sending back the poster to be named later. Creighton is all yours
Guys it was absolutely AWFUL when Ajax made the semifinals with that young, cohesive team. Real shame we couldn’t just watch the richest teams on earth at that point
I get it the sun sucks but it will be interesting to see if the picks up any more legitimate momentum. The Scottish call for independence is growing. They make a valid point that Boris Johnson could back this aggressively as a way to try and unite the UK and stave off another call for Scottish independence. the US style top 4 “playoff” would be a complete and total disaster but I’ll choose to ignore that part
LOL, so out of touch. Of all the times to talk, now is the worst. Unless he starts the presser with, we've signed Messi for three years there is literally no way in which this can be a win.
So the champions league? Seriously though the champions league minus UEFA taking an unnecessary amount out of it would be a good thing. I just think that at this point, we as fans trust fifa more than we trust the big clubs to get it right. That’s the legacy of the super league. Even UEFA is better than these clubs when it comes to integrity and greed.
The people that don’t take racism seriously at all and have allowed it to continue with very minimal punishment are the heroes in this. It’s unbelievable. Hopefully we find a way to use UEFAs swift action during this time to demand the same the next time we see a racist incident. I doubt it though.
I don’t think there is any way rangers and Celtic start straight away in the premier league. I think the EFL would welcome them though
I do. They’re both huge clubs with enormous fan bases. And I only think a scenario of them jumping straight to the PL would happen if teams left the FA/PL
do we run the premier league at 22 for a season or 2? I can’t imagine anyone in danger of being relegated voting to allow it and just saying that 2 extra teams will be relegated the next season. This could be a way that England gets an extra champions league/Europa league spot like the big 6 want. I just don’t know how you get the other premier league teams to vote for them to go right into the premier league and put themselves at higher risk of getting relegated.
I don’t have any basis, but I don’t think they just add the Scottish teams unless there’s a situation like the ESL could have been, where teams were possibly banned.
I was under the assumption that we would see a combination of the pyramids with the teams from Scotland being dropped into different leagues based on where they finished in the final league season. I didn’t think it was just 2. Belgium and the Netherlands are combining their leagues and Scotland/England are closer together than those 2. the interesting part of this that’s non-sport related is that the call for Scottish independence is on the rise. I feel like Boris Johnson would view this as a way to unite England and Scotland further which he would want as someone opposed to Scottish independence. Political opposition was important to the super league disbanding. Could be just as important for this happening. I’m just not sure how it would equitably happen right now and I don’t think it can just be Celtic and rangers.
Celtic made £53m in 2019. I figured I would just ignore the covid year. leeds and Villa, clubs with a similar stature, made about £40m in the championship. The lowest earning premier league clubs all make £100m+. You don’t think Celtic and rangers would back themselves to get promoted and take a £10m loss for the chance to double or triple their revenue on a annual basis? I am not saying the EFL would accept them. I’m just saying it would be a no brainer for Celtic and rangers to accept a deal even if they had to start in the championship. If they had to start in league 2, I don’t think they’d accept it. That’s a very big mountain to climb.
The Belgium Netherlands thing isn’t close to official yet. It was just some preliminary vote by Belgian clubs. From reading about it around then it seems to get buzz every few years but never actually comes to fruition, though maybe it’ll change this time.
city saves the sport and now we are going to save champions league a 10 point bonus to start next season may not be enough should be at least 15
this finally solves the moral dilemma i was faced with of possibly thinking the super league and the CL reforms are both dumb and idiotic
UCL clubs will just continue to make the league cup and FA cup a sideshow. B team competitions for UCL sides if they expand the number of UCL matches.
I hadn't followed the thread closely but just gotta give a late to the post commenting that when ESL players were banned from domestic comps that there would be an influx of Americans to "elite" clubs
Gross. Imagine how boring the sport would be if you rooted for a club that couldn't even afford a CB in January.
It's a no brainer even if they started in League 2. They would get promoted to the Championship by year 3. It may take a couple of years to get out of the Championship but they would do it,
I thought the post was lamenting the potential banning of ESL players from the World Cup right as we are hitting our best prospects ever. With a bunch on them on the Super League teams.
