Speaking of Indy car. I Dvr’d the race and mostly enjoyed it. There are a few things that really annoyed me though, or wish they’d improve on. Plus a few I really liked A) Going to commercial during the actual race. How stupid. I guess Indy races are a little longer maybe? But seriously, can they find a way not. I just feel it takes you out of the race as far as flow is concerned. B) Cars of the same team painted differently. Using the McLarenSP cars as an example. Ones painted very similar to their F1 cars. Another is black. One of the things I came to love about F1 was following teams themselves, so being able to immediately identify which teams people belong to seems like it’d add a little more nuance and excitement to races. C) Team radio: I like they just randomly play radio conversations from time to time. I just have absolutely no idea who is speaking. Do the little F1 pop up so we know. D) this one might be super nit picky, but it’s something I pay attention to in F1. The F1 timing screen mostly give the intervals between drivers, not from the leader. Indy did to the leader, and I just felt it was harder to see what kinda battles were taking place off screen. E) I have no idea how the points system works for Indy, and the announcers nor the graphics did anything to help. I feel like this is the ol’ tv/radio adage but assume you’ve got a new audience every 15 minutes, or in their case every race. I know it’s race one, but explain how points are earned, and how many per place, fastest lap, etc? Martin Brundle does an amazing job when he’s doing the race subtly explaining the rules/points system of F1 during the race. Now things I did like: 1) I LOVE that Indy cars can get right on each other. It drives me crazy in F1 to see them have to back off people because the cars can’t ride the slip stream. It makes for tighter races, and closer finishes. It feels more like a legit race, not so much a undercut over cut game with the occasional overtake due to DRS, or a late brake and zoom on by after one close corner. I hope the 2022 F1 car changes that. 2) The onboard camera angles are sensational. The camera at the top of the car that can turn 360 allows for really cool stuff.
Pretty much all of my complaints as well. 1) NBC is a bad partner. 2) it seems that IndyCar goes out of their way to be less like F1, to their detriment
I'm the Alfa Romeo of our fantasy league so far. Does this mean I'll get more windtunnel time in the off-season?
Got interested in F1 a few years ago bc of DTS and just really liked Lewis and Riccardo. I usually hate people new to a sport and picking the top team/person. I'm sure Max is a nice guy and want to like him but just don't like his face and don't like the principal (?) at RB, comes off as whiny. Think its hilarious Ferrari has all the built in advantages and still have issues. Would be cool if an American manufacturer or driver would get into F1. When was the last good American driver in F1, Andretti?
Man, rough look for Russell today. He’s gone in full deflection mode in regards to that crash. Essentially blaming everyone but himself till Toto laid down the law. Now he’s in PR recovery mode. Some of that “young professional” shine wore off.
Like someone said, He tried to pass, got scared doing 190 and swerved into Vettel. Him jumping out and running to Vettel like it was his fault is a bad look and needs to apologize
I thought this youtube was really interesting and how they used F1 as the example to explain how its races are fed out to the world.
Sweet little Yuki with the potty mouth huh?! The Haas team responded to that tweet saying they want a swear off between Yuki and Gunther. To give me some drama for Haas this year I need a weekly swear count for Gunther. It’d be tremendous content
i too would like to F1, but i have cancelled all of my live tv options and was never home when races aired anyway. there is an IG account i follow called valveandpiston, they always post drivers POV videos from old races.
F1tv is $80 for the year and you can watch live. I was streaming the GP on Sunday as I drove down to the beach.
I just got F1tv and I would say it is well worth the money. Its dope as hell tbh I'd pay more for it if they raised the price. Anyone play F1 the video game? I have gotten into it recently and its pretty fun if anyone wants to start a league
Just finished the Netflix series in 5 days. I knew almost zero about F1 before. Looking forward to watching my first live race next weekend.
yes 2021 comes out in July so I also have that preordered. I played 2019 because it was on GamePass and then I started having so much fun with it I bought 2020. Both have their positive features and are different games if not just for updated car performance and regulations. 2021 looks really good. 2020 plays like a game that is ready for the next level.
Probably going to see a lot of this. Top guys can't stay at teams with the old bloated spending budgets. Should help the smaller teams as these guys need to find new jobs
Red Bull just might have the strangest portfolio on planet earth. Sure we’re a drinks manufacturer (really marketer, not even manufacturer) but did you know we’re also a fashion brand. An engine manufacturer, and oh by the way that funky looking glass halo on the Indy cars. Yeah we make that too. Hell, give it a few years and they just might start building legit wings for airplanes. It’s about time they start living up to the motto
Topps released what I think was their first ever F1 Chrome set today. Shit looks amazing but costs a ton because the hobby is bonkers right now.
https://www.blowoutcards.com/2020-topps-chrome-formula-1-racing-hobby-box.html I will be jealous as fuck if you buy some, just do you know lol.
Shit.. I buy just about everything at this point. I picked up some WWE boxes a few months back that cost me like 500+ lol
And I thought the Master's patron shop was expensive..... https://f1store.formula1.com/en/mcl...z-9-2902892276?_ref=p-DLP:m-GRID:i-r7c0:po-21 That's a bad ass polo though
Of course this one is discounted https://f1store.formula1.com/en/haa...+z-9-877298598?_ref=p-DLP:m-GRID:i-r8c1:po-25
McLaren's site has an article on times when their cars appeared in film, and oh my how beautiful is this
I also laugh at the thought that Pirelli could make a tire that could allow flat out racing for 17 laps... foh
Limiting the cap (which limits the number of replacement parts that can be built) while simultaneously adding to the risk of crashes with a sprint race seems like a bad idea.
Fuck yes! Interested to see how it goes. They aren't fucking it up. They are testing something different for 3 races then will evaluate.....and to answer your question, they're being progressive and seeing if it could be even better. This is the year to try it.
USGP tix went on sale today. Sounds like they're moving pretty good, which is good for the race's continued existence.
It's a fun time. They do a good job of making it a festival atmosphere. Can't wait for my $12 Heineken
I went to the first race. Nice experience (although there were a lot of "bugs" the first year), but definitely plan on another race (if in North America, Montreal or Mexico City) so you get the real feel. The Tilke tracks are all "well designed" aka boring, although COTA is better than most.
Two things: A) I wished I loved something as much as Will Buxton loves racing. legit all racing. B) I thought this really captured and addressed something I've been wondering for a few years now about why there's not any real crossover between F1 and Indy/Nascar. Bonus: I gotta be honest here. I wish more sports had a Will Buxton. Obviously the Netflix helped get me to the table, but specifically his content has really kept me there. Just an incredible asset for the sport.
