He came up the year before and had an ERA over 7. You would have been screaming he sucks. You’re an idiot.
he made two spot starts in September when he was 22 years old. Mize has been up for 50 innings and has an ERA over 6. He’s a 4/5 starter at best
lol quoted for the future. I wonder when the last time the scouting community would have missed this badly on a pitcher. Some guys take more time. There’s no rush with this shit team anyway. Mize is 23 too. Also, yes, fire Avila.
Right. So we’re hoping he’s more greinke and gausman, but there’s a decent chance he’s Jon gray. I’m not worried about him.
Verlander had a 4.8 ERA in his third year and didn't become the ace people remember until his fourth season (09). You would have bitched about him after every start that year and wanted Dombrowski to cut him.
It’s maddening they we are relying on prospects to get good in the mlb with a franchise that can actually make money. There is no cap. Go make this team competitive
Detroit sports franchises have the worst ownership overall through the 4 major sports. No passion on winning = shit teams bc they still make a ton of money
Yep, this generation of Illitch doesn't care. Gore's is probably on a cocaine bender and doesn't know what he is doing. And the Fords are probably the worst owners in sports history. Honestly wings only team I trust to be good anytime soon. Run by Yzerman, the cap floor and ceiling and less money in play makes the owners at least spend some.
They tried doing that, and every free agent Avila signed was a flop. Avila better not get another chance to spend money.
It’s only going to get worse. After tomorrow we have a 9 game road trip against Chicago, New York, and Boston. We will be lucky to go 2-7.
I don’t think we want him making anymore trades either... https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2020/03/gm-trade-history-tigers-al-avila.html
That list is incredible. Avila got the job in August of 2015. Since then, he has made two trades that were not salary dumps/deadline deals he had to make... - Chad Green and Luis Cessa to NYY for Justin Wilson (Dec. 2015) - Mikie Mahtook from TB for cash (Jan. 2017) They list Castro for Martin as a 17-18 offseason trade, but that was on July 31, 2018. That's an almost impossible lack of activity. He literally has not made a baseball trade he didn't have to make because of the clock of a deadline in more than 4 years. And that's on top of signing 1 FA to a multi-year contract (Grossman) since January 2016 (Upton).
oh he will screw it up for sure. Boyd needs to start missing some more at bats though. Averaged a K per inning last two years, hopefully he picks it up and increases his value.
Well he also leads the AL in cool names, major league firsts and Chris Shelton comparisons, so you take the good with the bad.
Sad thing is the guy who has struck out 50% of his ab still is first by a lot in ops, 2nd in BA (guys with 25 ab), and 1st in war on this offense still
When the guys running the other 3 teams are making bold deals, trading or releasing holdovers and signing young reclamation projects our dude is jamming Rule 5s onto the roster. I think Yzerman, Holmes and Weaver have changed how people are looking at Avila's rebuild, which has been basically him just drafting every year.
Assuming we are not taking a QB, and we stick at 7. Who are your top 4 you want us to take? here are mine Sewell Pitts Chase Slater
